Why did they remove the period "." from VMK Dictionary

I agree with those who said that removing the period will do nothing to help situations. People find ways around things. I know VMK's intention is in the right place, but this does nothing but annoy some people. I know I have a difficult time understanding what people are saying without punctuation and as hard as it was to understand people anyway in vmk by the limited dictionary, it will be a lot more difficult now.

Yeah, now it will be ever more difficult to give a good description in Contact Us.

i definatley agree with the period then double space idea. that way its more difficult for people to combine words with periods, and you can make sense when your talking. but for now, when my english teacher asks why i didnt put a period here, i can always say "well on vmk you dont use periods..." ;)

This is ridiculous. The grammar in VMK is bad enough already, we don't need something like this to add to it. I remember during beta, they saw that so many people were using common words like "to" (and some others I can't remember) in order to dictionary dance so they freaked out and took them away. It was impossible to have a decent conversation. Fortunately that only lasted a day or two, and hopefully the whole period thing won't last either. They seriously need to come to their senses and find a better solution instead of just acting on impulse. :headache:

Well I do understand why they did it. I just think people will get around it too. I am probably the worst person to try and dictionary dance I have enough problems spelling words normally lol. It was only a few weeks ago I learn the he.add meant head. So I guess enough people figured it out. So they had to do something. I just do not have any good suggestions on how they can fix this problem. Accept run VMK like toon town. And I do not really want canned answers or questions. Though for running games it might be good.

They are trying so hard to make it safe for kids but it can not help but ruin their grammar. I know it affects mine now LOL. I will always remember my first and only warning in VMK when I spelt register wrong. I was trying to help some one and got warned for dictionary dancing. It upset me for months. I was so afraid I was going to get banned for bad spelling. And was so worried about kids who could not spell well. But my fear was for not. Since it seems too many kids know too many bad words that spelling is the least of VMK worries.

I do think they are trying hard to improve the game. And after a rough start I am happy with what they are doing.

Wonder what we will get for the second year in a month woot woot.

This removing the period is also affecting quests that are already written on the quest machines. Suddenly the clues that have been there forever need to be rewritten and then retested before you can release again after adding prizes.

VMK did not think how this would affect everyone - it is just crazy!

I would really hate double spacing, why would I want to have to change my entire way of punctuation for a game TWICE?

This angers me. I like to use proper grammar in VMK, I end my sentences with periods when trying to make a point. My friends call me A.A., short for AbsoluteAwesome. I use ".." to break silences. I wrote to contact us already. I know that they are trying to prevent dictionary dancing, but it won't be successful.
Same AA.

oooh... no good... bummer... I will have to check all my quests tomorrow. Or maybe I will leave them alone in hopes VMK changes their minds in a few days. lol

On another VMK forum, someone talked to Phinny, and she said that people were using it to say bad things. Which is basically what you guys said. Then she said, "that might be why." So it lead the people on the other forum to think that she doesn't even know why. I don't think the hosts are very happy with the setup, at least from those that I've talked to about it. If it was an April Fools Day joke, then it was a mean one. @_@ I just hope that from various amounts of compliants yesterday and some of today, they'll add the periods back.

yeah i dont like this at all.....

for the fact i use them EVERY DAY IN VMK!

good job staff :thumbsup2 making it harder for vmk everday :)

LOL just kiddingg. but still.. its so hard not to use them in vmk when you really do need to use them.

Well, sadly to say, vmk isn't free of 'bad words' with removing the full stop. If, for example we are trying to say the word twenty, in this case some might use too.oh, and by removing full stops, we can still say twenty by too oh. Yes, full stops are commonly used by people to say bad and good words, but even if you were to remove them, people would just find another way to get round it. For example, someone usually saying stupid as stoop.id can say it as stoop,id now. In my case, I usually use full stops as ... , but now i have to use a comma, and have to get used to this. This applies to many of us too. I suggest that we should report those who dictionary dance in a bad way (which I know mnay are doing at this time :thumbsup2 ), instead of vmk not allowing full stops. There are many of us, and I'm sure the above method would be a much more efficient one. Many of us are mad by this, and this might just add to the anger for some of us. I do emphasize with vmk though that they want to make this a safe and good community, but please vmk, let this be an April Fool's joke, and give us our periods back! :goodvibes

Oh no not quest machines. Well mine is for christmas quest so I have months to work on it. It is tough enough trying to write for the quest machine this might make it even tougher. I will wait and see what happens before I change anything.

This is terrible. VMK is already ruining my grammar skills (after getting off VMK I find myself typing .. instead of ... and all sorts of other VMK-isms). :sad2: And I'm an adult who doesn't play all that often! Kids who play every single day... that's just wrong.

I'm taking Advanced Composition instead of British lit. this year as my sennior lit. class.

Over this past year, I've learned I need sentence structure!

I asked her yesterday, and she told me that she had no clue why.
