Why did they close Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

They haven't, at least not at Walt Disney World. The DCA version of the show closed on August 20th, 2004, but the Disney-MGM Studios version is still running.

We are not really sure why they closed it at DL. It was always well attended. I know they are working on the building next door, adding a new Monster's Inc ride, but as far as I know they did not take over the Millionaire space. I haven't heard any rumors of it coming back, so I guess its gone for good.

As of now, it is gone for good.

I believe they are putting in a Narnia movie set to open some time in December in that location. As far as a permanent attraction, who knows??

MamaKate,
What is a Narnia Movie set? I have been wondering what they are doing with the WWTBAM building and this is the first I've heard. Any details are greatly appreciated - thanks! :goodvibes

A CM told us they got rid of it because the show was no longer on ABC. That does not seem to hold true if it is still at WDW though. Who knows???

According to Ken Parks, former WWTBAM host and current Laughing Stock member, it's closed for good. They took all the stuff out back in August. Narnia (as in the Chronicles of/Lion Witch and the Wardrobe) a movie coming out in Dec. It looks amazing.

We go to DL monthly, and for the first time last weekend, all of the signage is off of the building. We need to face the sad fact that it's gone!

I wonder if my DL WWTBAM hats, shirts and pins will eventually be worth something. Doesn't matter---I'm never parting with those!

I heard that they closed it due to two thing... 1) The show is no longer on ABC and 2) The same guests were playing (AP Holders apparently?) and trying to win the top prize?!?

Can't wait for something new to open up in there. HPB definitely needs it!!

It's most likely going to be a walk-through set of the new movie The Chronicles of Narnia. They've done it in the past at Disney Studios in Florida were they have a set and props from a movie that is new at the time. It may have more, but they haven't released any details to the public yet.

oooooooh. I wish it was open for our December trip. My daughter is very excited about the movie, she would have loved that!

I also heard that WWTBAM was closed because ABC is selling the rights to the show to another station (and ABC is Disney)

Thanks for the reply Katie :)
I just saw a commercial on TV for the Narnia movie! I am all for new attractions. Anything is better than a building being closed up. I really liked WWTBAM, but I also heard the same group of local regulars kept winning the hot seat spots. They had a system worked out. I just like watching the show

That could have been easily fixed by extending the lock-out time for hot seat winners from 30 days to 90 days or longer. I loved the show too. Such a shame when a popular ride/attraction is closed.

The thing is, it was only popular with a small group of locals.

Cheers.
