Why Deluxe Resorts

i was NOT saying anything against YOU ...i only used the quote because i was showing i was also talking about 2 adults and 3 kids also...I dont know you therefor I dont care about dissecting anything...sorry you took it that way...ANYWAY to the next poster yes I got a great deal 201.00 a night for club level in december...I cant wait!

Sorry for the sharp response..I took it the wrong way...but on a lighter note..I can not understand your rate...tickets alone for my family of 5 were around $1500.00 for 5 day park hoppers...My deluxe dining was $1000.00...my kids are 9, 7 and 6...how old are your kids?? are they free?? Something is not adding up...:confused3

we are also 2 adults 3 kids
to stay deluxe does not mean you have to stay at poly and have a mk view, we are staying at AKL CLUB LEVEL (could have got poly gv for same cost) and AKL is a great deluxe resort....we are staying 5 nights, tix, and ddp for a total of 1800.00.This does not include any airfair because we drive. There are ways for people to stay at a wdw deluxe resort without spending 4,5 or 6,000 you have to look for deals and do alot of planning...but that is why people come to sites like this one.look for codes, stay value season ect...i could have got poly for same price garden view room (and prob upgraded to mk view) but i chose AKL so i could do club level as a treat.I have stayed at poly,gf,CR and AKL and AKL is my #1 and it just happens to be the cheapest to stay at....

Are you serious?!? Your gonna have to tell us how you did that, because we stayed at a value and paid probably twice that last May. Every time I look at the code threads, it feels like it's a matter of being at the right place at the right time and not something that can alway be obtainable. I would like to have an amazing time in The World when I come out there May 2010, and would like to be able to do it as cheaply as possible, but not finding that easy to navigate. Any help, anyone?? :flower3:

In a way you are right Millie,
Disney is famous for offering/not offering discounts and no one being able to predict. Check out the dining forum and see how many psters are trying to figure out if there will be free dining this year :rotfl:
You have one thing in your favor: Time.
I always start out with where I would like to stay, then I try to budget for that. Check around, AAA, AARP, travel agents, travelocity and see what prices you come up with. Would you save booking room only and then buying your tickets seperately. If you are staying deluxe, is it worth it to buy 1 AP pass and get the room discount?

to me it is just the standard of care and extra amenities you get at the deluxe resorts. i like having only 1 bus stop. i like that your packages from the parks get delivered to your room and not the gift shop.

I have stayed at deluxe resorts and still have to pick up my purchases in the gift shop.

Why do I prefer "deluxe" (even if Disney "deluxe" is far from deluxe.)

Better service. Here is an example:

I stayed at Pop, and someone dropped a chili dog on the stairwell and it stayed there for 3 days.

I stayed at Saratoga Springs (not officially deluxe, but you get the idea), it rained, and as soon as it stopped raining, someone was sweeping the water off the stairwell.

Fewer cigarette smokers.

Better toilet paper.

OK the Chili Dog!!! That is down right nasty!!! and LOL to the TP

Our first on property stay was 2006 at a POR, the last two years in a row has been at WL. Our next trip in 2009 will be at BWI (boardwalk view) or AKL (club level) or DVC. The reasons are endless... service, less waiting for buses, bus stops are usually closer at the parks, in room dining, better themes, but a very important one for DH is actually having 2 or more sit down restaurants within the hotel. There is no way he could handle a value and just some giant food court at the hotel. He would go mad with hunger :rotfl2: We just returned from WL on Jan 26. We spent 1600 on a courtyard view w/balcony at WL for 7 days/6nights. Our entire trip w/room, food, spending cash and a ticket for DS was about 3000 total. We only go during value season and we get a AAA discount on room/tickets. We are only 7hrs from WDW, so obviously we drive, that is a tremendous savings, and that is why we go every year. I know for certain that if I suggested a value to my family they would laugh in my face :rotfl: I actually think the values could be fun, I like the giant sized toys and things at the values, I think they look great! We always know we are going, so it is always in our minds to plan/save for our vacations. DH is very interested in DVC as well, after our DVC tour in Jan he said the next trip we take will be as DVC members. Why pay 1600 for a room for a week when you can start DVC with the same amount :confused3

We are staying at Poly for several reasons:

1.) DH just returned from 2 back to back trips to Iraq (Active Duty Marine Corp) For the past 2 years he has been either in Iraq or training to go to Iraq. I want to treat our family to the luxury of a deluxe hotel because of what we have endured for the past 2 years. I know we could stay at SOG for less but it does not have the Disney magic, nor some of the extras you get from staying in a Disney resort.

2.) The rooms and the beds are bigger, which means better sleep and more comfort after a long day in the parks.

3.) We have 2 DD's that would love to wake up each morning and see Cinderella's Castle and be able to watch Wishes from our balcony.

4.) The added convience of the monorail. Our DD's are 4 and 7 and having the monorail right outside our door to the MK will be so nice.

5.) Since my husband is in the military, who knows when we will have the time to return to WDW.

Normally our budget would not allow a deluxe resort, but I have saved tax returns, extra money my husband earned in Iraq and I have worked hard to earn raises and bonuses to afford this trip. In my opinion, if you are going to go to Disney you should do it first class all the way.

Good for you! You sound just like me. My DH is in the Marine Corps as well and he's currently in Iraq. He left a month ago for a 13 month deployment.

I just booked our first "family" trip for May 2009. It will be us and our 2 boys, 3 and 4 at the time. My husband spent 5 months out of last year in Oklahoma at Ft. Sil. So, by the time he comes home next year, he will have spent 1.5 years of the past 2 years away from home. :sad1:

It's tough being a "single mom" during a deployment, especially with young kids. On top of the fact that my kids are only 2 and 3 right now, they are both special needs. It's rough for sure.

I booked us two rooms at the Poly Concierge. It's going to cost a bundle (in that $7000-10000 neighborhood for JUST the rooms), but you know what...life is short and I want this vacation to be hassle free and RELAXING family time together. I am confident that the Poly will deliver!

And, thank goodness for all the tax free income and incentive/special pay they give our DH's while they are over there. It's the least the government can do is to give us enough money to have a really, really nice vacation, don't you think? ;)

Partly because- rooms are larger, balcony to go onto when kids are asleep, convenience to parks, DS8 & DD6 do not have to share a bed

But mostly because- THAT IS HOW I GET DH TO AGREE TO GO TO WDW!!!:thumbsup2

I got AKL CLUB ROOM 201.00 A NIGHT
DDP FOR 5 NIGHTS
AND 1 DAY TIX NO HOPPER, THEN GONNA PAY 25.00 TO UPGRADE TO FL RES TIX WHEN WE ARRIVE..... I always get fl res tix, they are much cheaper and we always spend one day at the hotel or downtown disney.I also never do park hoppers...those really drive up the price.

I agree with some of the other poster.

1 - Want to

2 - Can

3 - I don't share a bedroom (or bathroom for that matter) with my kids & mother at home so why in the world would I on vacation.

I've been reading many of the posts of this thread. And, having stayed at every type of Disney resort - value, mod, deluxe, DVC - I agree with most of the comments.

However, the one that I really find odd is all the comments re transportation. I find taking Disney transportation inconvenient no matter which level of resort you stay in. That's why I always rent a car.

The only exceptions: Poly, GF and Contemporary as to MK
WL - extra MK option of boat
YC/BC, Bwalk - walk to EPCOT, boats to EPCOT and DS

I still think you need a car wherever you stay if you want to travel to Downtown Disney, or visit another resort

Also, with the car, you can enjoy everything the deluxes offer through a quick and easy car ride. The only thing you can't enjoy is another hotel's pool.

It's opinion as to whether or not you need a car. I hardly ever get one. Besides the fact that I don't wish to pay for one for all my trips, can't drive it to dinner if I want to have some wine, can't drive it to PI if I want to buy drinks.

I have learned to add in the time for transportation.
