Why Deluxe Resorts

We like the deluxes for the pools, valet parking, queen beds, and the balcony.
The only time we spent anywhere near $7,000 to $10,00 for a hotel was when we purchased DVC.

I don't really notice any better service at the deluxes either :)

I would love to stay at deluxe resort but what they charge is way too much. I can't see spending thousands of dollars just for a place to sleep. It's a shame when the budget hotels start charging 120.00 a night. That it is what I paid at the Pop this past week. This was for a room facing the parking lot.

Well for me this may be the only time I get to stay in a deluxe resort, (dh is staying home) My mom is going and has offered to split the cost with me (1475. each) that includes pool view, PH tix and free dining. Next year my DH will be going with us so we will have 3 adults and 2 kids so it will probably be 2 rooms at POP or the cabins for us.

I totally understand that we have all income brackets on this board and what some people can afford others can't. So what is the draw to Deluxe Resorts? :confused3

I can honestly say I can't afford a Deluxe resort, not that I wouldn't kill to stay in one, but the idea of my family spending $7,000 to $10,00 on a hotel boggles my mind. I would much rather go more often and stay at Moderate or a Value than go once every ten years and stay at a Deluxe.

Please do not take any offense to the post, it was not intended to be a slam. I am just curious.

keep in mind most are not spending that amount on a room and people like me wait to get a good code to stay at a deluxe resort...I would never pay full prive but when we get 40% off we say why not, we are a family of 5 staying 5 nights at AKL club level w/ ddp and it is only costing us 1800.00...it is alot but we are splurging because it is christmas.

For the same reason some people love a Motel 6 and others love the Four Seasons. Different ammenities and levels of service.

We have stayed at value and mod. This year we are staying at WL. We want to try it. We are going during the value season for deluxe. If you know when to go, it doesn't have to be so expensive. I can't say that we'll be able to stay deluxe every time, but it might be nice every once in awhile.

Not sure where the figures are for 7,000 to 10,000 on a room. We have been 3x and done Moderates and been fine. This past time we wished we did Deluxe and said we would next time. We will be going to WL Dec. 13-20. With tax and a AAA discount it is $215 a night except the last night starts Holiday pricing so it will be $390 but who wants to move on thier last night. I think our room only total was around $1,700. Of course park tickets will run $1,000 for our family of 2 children and 2 adults along with food and gas but still we should come in around $4,000 for 7 nights and 8 days at a deluxe with everything included and for a vacation that doesn't seem that high to me. We would NEVER consider 7,000-10,000 just on a room. This trip we plan to enjoy the resort more and the WL is supposed to be great at Christmas. We also plan to eat a lot of dinners of site after the parks close.

Have you ever heard the expression you get what you pay for. This is very true I have learned the hard way that is why we are DVC now.

Not sure where the $7-10K figure comes from unless someone is staying for several weeks. We aren't paying that and we have two rooms. I guess I am fairly price-insensitive when it comes to hotels. Have stayed anywhere from small youth hostels to Aman and Four Seasons Resorts. For me, it really is location and amenities. For this trip, I just loved the theme (AKL) and thought it would work best for our family (animal-obsessed kids). With little children, we plan on lots of time at the resort itself so having a nice pool and things to do on-grounds was important. Plus, the bunk bed rooms. So, my kids and their babysitter can be in one room and we can have a separate room ourselves. Without the bb rooms we would have to have a child in with us and, quite frankly, that is not vacation to me.

My parents are totally different. They are campers and wouldn't consider anything other than Ft. Wilderness. I guess I just didn't get the camping gene (and thankfully married someone who doesn't have it either). Does not appeal to me at all but they are thrilled.

To each his own, I suppose.

I think it's just a matter of preference and budget. We enjoy the deluxe resorts mostly because of location. When we were at the Poly, we were able to get to the MK quickly. The TTC was a short walk from our longhouse.

We also like the dining options at deluxe resorts. Last month we did deluxe dining and are doing it again in August. We don't eat CS, so we enjoy having table service options, as well as room service.

Other benefits (for us, anyway) of staying at a deluxe include larger rooms, valet parking, bell services, elaborate pools and beautiful beaches, option of choosing a club level room, and fitness facilities.

I dont know. I just like them better. We always stay concierge and they dont have that at the other places.

DH and I started at off site resorts (late teens early 20's) , $40 a night for the Ramada, we were young and broke :goodvibes and that is what we could afford (we also ate all CS too :thumbsup2 ). We used the resort to shower and sleep and that was it.

Then the value resorts had great discounts, $49 a night for FL residents so it was a no brainer, we would stay onsite. We loved it! Then if the mods had a great deal, $79-99 a night, we stayed there. Again we just used the resort to shower and sleep.

We have stayed at the Lake Buena Vista resort in DTD (the tall tower one, maybe they changed the name?) and the Double Tree with my inlaws and that was ok too but we hated the bus situation...it was horrible.

Now that we are older ;) we prefer to relax on our WDW vacation so a nice resort with great restaurants and a fantastic pool are right up our alley. You can really unwind at one of the quiet pools! We have tried almost all the deluxe resorts, GF and SS are the last 2 on the list. We also love having a few nice TS instead of all CS

We make more now then when we younger so we can afford to splurge a bit. We have AP's and try so hard to get great discounts. I refuse to pay over $250 a night...I just cannot justify it. We have also stayed at the Swan and Dolphin and for $125 a night it was out of this world fantastic! We do not use the DDP....just DDE.

Now not getting a deluxe would not make me cancel a trip or anything, we have no problem staying at any of the resorts or the Swan/Dolphin. If we go for a quick weekend we do not care which type of resort we stay in but if we are going for a week we would prefer to stay deluxe.

I guess what it comes down to is who cares which level of resort you are staying at as long as you are at WDW!

You've answered your question in your first post. While 7,000 may boggle your mind, it's the norm for when I travel. Your making the assumption that I only go once every ten years, I go at least every year and now that I'm a dvc owner I go as often as I want.

Simply put, I stay in a deluxe because I like them and because I can afford them. I've never understood why this is such a hard concept.

For me, the deluxes give me room service, valet parking, a choice of several TS restaurants, plush beds that don't kill my back, exellent theming and a CS dining option that isn't a 'madhouse'. :thumbsup2

We like the location and what you get for your money. I just stayed AKL and WL both on CL and did not spend half of what you listed. So it is not quite that much money.

We are lucky and can go 2-3 times a year because of lots of frequent flyer miles and a good number of DVC points. For us it's really about the resort as much (or even more) than the parks. In January we were at AKL and only went to a park once in 4 days, and then just for SpectroMagic and Wishes. We go to relax, so we want comfortable rooms and lounging areas, great service and lots of good restaurants nearby. Boats, bikes, a beach, the Boardwalk, or savannahs at AKL make it even better. Years ago when we did commando every day the hotel was just a place to sleep and anything was okay. Now the resort is a large part of the vacation.

I have stayed every year that I have gone to Disney from 1998-2007 in a Deluxe Concierge room. The Deluxe rooms have more amenities and usually has a special extra touch of Disney magic. Most Deluxe hotels are situated by the MK or Epcot. The transportation to the parks via monorail/boat/bus were always on time.

I can afford to stay wherever I want, but it is also important for me to get my money's worth. I have stayed at CSR and at WL and we were much happier at CSR. I would like to try an AKL Savannah View room some day, but otherwise we will stick to the moderates. The features at the moderates are just a better fit for DH and I.

I like that you have a choice at Disney. We usually choose who gets resort choice and stay wherever the person chooses. If we want to stay Pop (and we have) we just know that we need 2 rooms because we are very tired when we come back and full sized beds are too small. My DS(13) is almost 6 feet tall and would have a difficult time sharing with our DS (7) in a full. The theming is great wherever you stay IMO. The kids loved POP and they had their own, connected room. We love WL and not because it was "Deluxe" but we loved the lodge feeling. We are staying AKL this time because I got to choose and love the theming. I am sure that with two boys who love sports if they chose Sports, we would get two rooms and enjoy that too. We just love being able to stay at a themed resort where it is fun at the resort and at the park. When the kids grow up and we visit alone, we just may go for the "spa" luxury reason but for now, anywhere we stay it's about Disney Fun 24/7!!!

Have a good time wherever you end up.
