Why cats are better than kids

Gee, Briar Rose, if you hadn't had those human kids maybe you could have trained your cat not to attack you. LOL

Mine have ways of waking me up during the night, too. I know if I don't give in and feed them that eventually (like several weeks later) they will stop waking me up. But sometimes it is easier to just get up and feed them so I can go back to sleep. Fortunately, they don't bite or claw me though.

I have one human little girl who brings me great joy and one feline little girl who does too.

What is the arguement here? :D

I think both are great. Not the same, but great.

Wait.....it's "why cats are better than kids"???
I thought it was
"why cucumbers......" ........ummmmm.....nevermind! :jester: :jester:

I agree with Tracey and GG -- they may never SAY "I love you" out loud, but those purrs, and looking into my Wedge's eyes... *sigh* I adore my boys so much!

Well said! My feelings exactly! I have 3 cats and 4 kids and you certainly can't compare the two. It's not even like apples and oranges. It's more like apples and Hagen Daz! :) (the kids being the Hagen Daz....duh!)

But..... as I type this my kids are fighting and my cats are laying quietly on the front porch. So if you don't want to deal with the downside of having kids, cats do make a great alternative.

This was great - my kitty is often much easier to handle than my daughter.;)

OK- I broke up the fight and I'm back.

To reply to all who say their cats wake them in the middle of the night, try this:
I've had cats for the past 29 years and we have always put our cats "to bed" each night. All you need is a room or basement with food, water and a litterbox and maybe a little bed (my cats prefer a basket of laundry that is waiting to be done). After a while, the cats may even go to their "bedroom" themselves on most nights, like mine do. I have tried to leave my cats roam free at night but it's difficult to sleep with a cat wrapped around my head during the night.:)

Too weird: My son just switched to the Discovery Channel- a show about of all things.............cats!

Or, you know, you could just close the door to YOUR bedroom! We close the boys out every night and let them wander the house freely.

There will always be a cat in our house........that is a given!!! My DH and I had that conversation before we got married.

But I have to say that even though I dearly love my cats..... my kids are better. I could list for hours why.........but suffice to say kids are better.

A cat can't tell me he loves me like Patrick can and using his voice, not signing it. I don't care what a cat does, it doesn't come close! :)

Buckalew said it best!

I love my four furbabies and I LOVE my son. Of course, after all I went through with my parents I am SOOO grateful I have a child to take care of me when I'm older. I waited very long to have him but I know now that he will be with me forever as I was for them.

My cats, unfortunately, will not... :( but like I always said, they're like having children with a terminal disease. They don't outlive you but they give you so much pleasure while they are there.

Ya, but then my little ones have a bad dream and come running down the dark hall to my room and BAM right into my closed door! Now I have a bloody nose to take care of!

Seriously, this would not work for us, in the winter we heat with an airtight wood stove and need to have the bedroom doors open for heat.

True. The hardest thing about having cats is that one day you'll lose them forever, and that really hurts. :( But the years of joy they give me is worth it!

LOL -- I guess you have an excuse, then. Just make sure the basement is EXTRA cosy for the kitties!

I think it's all a matter of preference....one isn't BETTER than the other except to each individual person.

Not everybody desires the "I love you, Mommy", but, for those who do, a cat can't compare. I don't desire children. I have a nephew that I adore - he's 6 months old. I love spending time with him. I just don't desire children of my own. I love my cats. Some would say I'm missing out....I don't feel that way since the desire was never there. I have a happy full life. It's not for everyone, but neither is having children. I don't treat my cats like kids, but I love them and enjoy them and they're treated very well - yes, they have their own room in the house for their toys and their beds that they go to when it's time for bed. They love me back and are great at showing affection. I had my first cat for over 20 years. Now I have three young ones and I do dread the day that they get "old" and have to be put down, but a teenager can be killed in a car or a child can get sick at a young age....crap like that happens all the time to all species of life. Sad, but true.

So, to everyone who prefers kids to cats....I'm happy that you find so much joy in your kids. And, to everyone who prefers cats to kids.....I'm happy that you find so much joy in your cats. It's an interesting debate, but to say that one is "better" than the other isn't possible because it's all a matter of personal preferences. Cats are better for ME based on what I want out of life.

You sound just like my brother and his wife (except they have dogs)! I always tell them not to let anyone talk them into having kids. Raising children properly takes a tremendous amout of time and energy. It does (and should) change almost all aspects of your life. I think it's much better to know for certain, like you and my bro., that you do not want to make that kind of commitment than to find out after you have a child that you're not ready! Too many people are infatuated with the IDEA of having children and then once the kids are here they realize the work that is involved and immediately begin to compile a list of babysitters a mile long! Good for you for being mature enough to be very confident about your choice!
