why can't I just buy a Coke?

My husband worked for Coca~Cola for 12 years and Pepsi 2 years. It is a marketing ploy . The water cost more so if you don't have a choice you will buy the more expensive item unless you walk to a spot where you can have a coke.

Also, it is cheaper for them to sell fountain drinks. They are making a KILLING on fountain drinks. Whereas, bottled cokes WDW is probably making $10 off a case. They can make $100's off the fountain drinks.

Sounds like you can still get the stuff, just not from a cart. You'll just need to walk into a shop to grab one.

Profit wise, there is more money in bottled water than bottled soda.

Just grab a dole whip!

Do Dole whips have caffeine, I hate coffee, and I need caffiene.

I don't like Dole Whips anyway. And I do not pay money for water. I can walk over the the nearest drinking fountain and have water for free (yes, I realize people think they must be dirty). Even the counter services will give you a cup of water for free. Why should I pay for water? And the vitamin thing, geez, just take some vitamins.

I want easy access to the Diet Coke, not being pointed to a store across the park. Believe me. Maybe WDW has rethought that strategy within this short time - will find out next week.

I can't drink Vitamin water. I've tried it twice and both times it caused me to have an asthma attack. I must be allergic to one of the ingredients in it. I wasn't crazy about it anyway and wouldn't buy it.

A year ago, the opposite was happening with the posts. People were saying Disney didn't have any healthy options, that the kids ate healthy the other 51 weeks of the year and the parents didn't want to have that change for the week, etc. Letters were written, surveys were taken and this is the result. But, just like "going green" is a fad now, so is healthy eating.

Write to Disney, answer the surveys (don't avoid your eyes and not talk to someone because you want to get to the next attraction), and state your opinion.

And by the way - drinking anything caffeinated to "cool down" doesn't work well.

Unfortunately some of those so called vitamin waters have just as much or more sugar in them than coke does and they really aren't all that good for you. (Doctor talking about them on the news a couple of weeks ago).

Exactly why I will not let DH have them at home (Oy I sound like his mother :lmao: )

He was inhaling them and then wondered why he was gaining weight....then I cut him off the Vitamin water he lost the weight.

On vacation he can have one and he is so happy! Sometimes you just need a Coke and I think it stinks that the coolers are not stocked with all kinds of drinks!

It's probably another one of those stupid rumors! I can't imagine Coke cutting off their nose to spite their face. Let's be honest, there room in the cart for both.!

I take my vitamin in the morning, I don't need it nor want it in my refreshments!

Something else to consider is the fact that they make more money on fountain soda than they do on bottles. Bottles cost more due to the plastic bottle, etc. Fountain soda costs literally a quarter when you include the cup and lid. So I see this going to more fountain soda or $4 Vitamin Water.

Either way....Disney is making more money than if they'd sell $2 Diet Cokes in the bottle.

I actually think the healthier options popping up are FANTASTIC! I love that on a really hot day, when fries sound too heavy, I can get fruit. One of my favorite treats at Disneyland on a hot day is a big cold pickle and ice cold water (don't go there, naughty! ) I prefer water most of the time (and I am one who will pay for bottled water, not only for taste, but convenience of carrying it with me, with a closable top, while I want it, and recycling it when I am done with it), but sometimes I want a Coke (and hubby definitely does, more than I do). And when I have a hankering for fries, I don't want fruit forced on me...

It's all about options. I love these options, and being able to eat healthier and lighter when I need it, and to be able to indulge when I like to, as well! Disney is giving us those options, and I am thankful. Just don't make it only one or the other. Give us the choice.

::yes::

Still here and today after reading this thread I went to DTD -- carts had both and in abundance -- I really don't think this is anything to worry about.

well, i have to say this ads another CON to my list of "pro's & con's" to visit MK twice during our orlando trip. :rolleyes1 :snooty:

that list is getting pretty long already, and i have 3 mths left for Disney to close MORE of
my favorite rides, make me search for some diet coke, and no be able to setup a ADR for my Anniversary Meal. ( Disney, you are really dropping the ball!)
whats the BIG deal with soda?
i understand that some people are anti-soda, but to not offer it at the carts is just plain dumb.
so, I will plan on buying the paper cups of soda at CS locations. It's probably cheaper that way anyhow!

Hey Misty!

What is the problem with your anniversary ADR? And what rides did they close on you recently?

I think the Vitamin water is way over priced. At home I can get it for $1 a bottle on sale, and it's actually cheaper then Coke at home.

I was able to get Coke from a bunch of carts, like the ice cream ones, and popcorn carts around the parks when I was there at the end of September.

Hey BB, where were you in 1985 when they came out with New Coke? The Wall Street Journal called this the worst business decision in US history. Don't underestimate the ability of major American companies to come up with idiot ideas. Can you say Sub Prime Mortgages? And I :lovestruc Diet Coke. But I don't trust them to make decisions in my interest.

This has been going on for a few years. On our first trip in 2004, Disney was pushing Coke products like crazy, including the obscure sodas (like Coke 50/50 or whatever it was called)

On our most recent trip in 2007, mostly every stand or cart was pushing water or other beverages. Here's an idea Disney; WHY NOT GET SOME DECENT ICED TEA?!

I agree completely!!!! Especially SWEET TEA!!!!! I know that there is a version of Sweetened Nestea at the Harbour House, but it is not the same!!!! When in Rome, do as the Romans, when in the South, drink sweet tea!!! :woohoo:

I agree. I like the "options" SO and I usually get 1 fry and 1 apple slices, or the like so that we can share. Cold apple slices are yummy on hot days...but if apple slices were my only choice I wouldn't be happy.

Slightly unrelated to the missing coke bottles in parks, when I was last at POP in September, they had gotten rid of Cherry Coke and now have Coke Zero and Sprite Zero. Come on!!!! Cherry Coke is a beverage staple!!! I try to drink water and ice tea (brewed only) as much as possible, but sometimes you just want a soda, and we stay clear of diet and zero drinks (for one because we don't like the taste) but they all have Aspertame and Sucralose (sp?) in them which are definitely not healthy by any means.
