Why can't I get the AVATAR thing to work?

Everytime I hit the "change avatar" button, my whole computer shuts down. What the heck? I can't get it to work, and I've tried more than once. I can get into the "more info" on avatar's, and see all the images and pictures. Does anyone know how to help this problem? I'd really love to get an avatar and it just ain't a workin' boo-hoo
