Why buy in different Resorts

Hi All,

Something has been going around in my head and thought I should ask. If my contract makes it through ROFR, it has a June use year. If I then purchase and add-on for say Old Key West direct from Disney, will they allow me to make it June as well?

Regs,

CJM

Disney will keep your June UY for add ons of less than 150 points. If you WANT a different UY and add on more than 150 at a single time, you can get a different UY. Some people have different UY by design. We don't.

Okay, I am a little confused. Here is my situation so let me know if adding 25 would help. We own 150 at SS but plan on going every other year. We need 300 points to stay in a 2 bedroom (We have 3 kids). We just came back 2 weeks ago and stayed at BWV at the 7 month window. Now if I purchased 25 points at say BCV would that help me to be able to stay at BCV next time at the 11 month window? I am thinking no because I need 300 at BCV as well. Please explain, I am confused on this one.

If you bought 25 points at BCV you would have an 11 month prioirity only for the 25 points at BCV (plus any Banked/Borrowed BCV points). You would be able to make a reservation using 25 points only. The SSR points would be available to be used at BCV at the 7 month point.

We originally bought an OKW resale, but as many do, we soon realized that we needed more points. So, when DVC offered a great promotion at SSR, we bought a 120 point add-on.

You will often see that when people add on, they do so wherever the best deal is -- which might be SSR, or VB, or who knows?

Hi there,

Another potential DVC'r question (going through ROFR now!). Can you combine your points from multiple resorts? Say I own at SSR and OKW and my use years are different. I am at the 11 month at SSR but not OKW. Can I call and book SSR for an extended stay using some of my OKW points?

Regs,

Your Use Year has no bearing on when you can make a reservation. You can make a reservation at your home resort, using points from that resort, 11 months prior to your check out date regardless of your UY. You can make a reservation at a non-home resort 7 months from your check out date using points from any resorts.

If you own points at SSR and buy an add-on with the same UY at OKW (and it is set up as an add-on contract to your SSR/master contract), you can easily combine your points at 7 months to make a reservation. If your OKW points are a different UY than your SSR contract, they will be set up as separate contracts. You can still make a reservation using both sets of points at 7 months from check out, but the process is a bit different. I'm not familiar with exactly what you need to do, so I'll have to leave it to someone else to explain the details.

The small contract does give you a 11-month window for booking at that resort. It can work, especially if you plan to stay in a studio. You can bank one year's 25, use a current year, and even borrow some from the next year's and have enough pts in which to stay at least 5 nights.

It can work great for trips every 2nd or 3rd year, especially if your large lot of points is somewhere else.

Also, it gives you a start since you can also add on or wait list to add another 25 pts later.

In my case, I own 5 contracts and am waitlisted for the 6th and plan to change one over soon to my daughter's name, so she will own her own 50 pt contract and that will start her membership so that she can take advantage of the DVC perks herself.

We know that for family trips we'll make use of a GV at SSR, so our main contract is there. But we'd like a smaller contract at BCV or BWV (waitlisted now for 30 pts) for dh and I to go to F&WF for a few days every 3 years, and that will work perfectly. We're also thinking of putting smaller contracts in each child's name as they graduate high school, to get them started (and make the whole inheritance thing go more smoothly - equal shares for everyone).

we own at every resort for the 11 month window ...................sometimes it matters when you want to stay in a certain place at a certain time...............it is especially helpful at times like Xmas.............

I want to be like you when I grow up! I can't imagine, but I know what it's like to want more than 2 resorts!!

wish list
more BCV pts
different UY for BWV
small amount of points Vwl
smaller amount of points HH :cloud9:

My BCV points just came through (Yippeeee!) so now I have a Jan 07 trip to SSR, a 5 day 07 BCV during my son's spring break! We used our 05 VWL points for a December 06 jaunt to HH and can now save our 06 VWL for the GV we will need or take a quick weekend trip next December.

I love the flexibility of multiple *homes* and love each of our three for their own perks!
