I have a friend who does not belong to DVC and is considering purchasing DVC points. Is there any advantage in purchasing from Disney?

THe advantage is if you want to have SSR as your home resort and if the extra 12 years matters to you.

Signing by the Mickeys and Palm Trees in the purchase agreement from Disney. ;)

12 yrs longer contract at SSR. If you want the newer resort SSR its only thru Disney.

Ease of arranging financing through Disney

as with everything else.....Disney offers better service, as well as the extra 12 years with SSR.

If you buy through Disney, you can make reservations the same day. With resales, you have to wait while your offer goes through right of first refusal, then wait for closing, then wait for DVC to put you in their system. That all can take weeks. On the other hand, resales cost less, they are available at sold out resorts.

Along the same lines as others have said, it is very easy and no hassle. I realize that some will prefer to save some loot, but for us the lack of bother is worth the bucks. Just pick up the phone and order up some points. :teeth:

If you would like one of the 'sold out' resorts, OKW, BWV, BCV, VWL or either of the off site locations, HHI or VB you will need to go with a reseller.

The prices are NOT fixed, as most sellers will negotiate with you on price. As a buyer of a resale, you maybe required to pay for dues and banked points and most if not all of the closing costs. Then after you and the seller agree on the 'deal', Disney has a Right Of First Refusal, where at Disney's sole discretion could buy the deal you made with the seller, then you would have to locate another resale and start all over. This ROFR has a 30 day limit, so the resale could take 4 weeks or more.

But once you make a deal and Disney passes, you have all the same rights as an owner that purchased from Disney. They do NOT treat you as a 'second class owner'. There are several resellers that folks on this site have used, and one, The Time Share Store is a site sponsor. Click on their link at the top of this page.

Hope this helps.

Another advantage of going to Disney is that you can customize the size of your contract...

Going through resale, you may find that Contract A has too many points, while Contract B doesn't quite have enough...

1. Disney is very liberal with it's financing.
2. Disney does not put it on your credit report unless you defalt.
3. Disney titles it as a deeded mortgage. So if you finance through them, all interest is tax deductable.
4. Disney pays for all closing costs. (Not that they are a whole lot either.)
5. DIsney offers flexible financing, i.e. 1,5,10 years etc...
