Why are the room charging limits diff. for each resort?

One thing I haven't seen mentioned, is people that put down cash for room charging, thats what we do.

Good point -- but I have mentioned that at least twice in this thread. :)

Last January I had to purchase my AP as I had let it lapse, and my son's was due to be rebought in two days. When I got to MK I realized I forgot my credit card. Not knowing what we were going to purchase that day and knowing it could end up with a dinner at Ohana's (can you say lapulapu?) before I made it back to the resort I had MK guest services call CBR and charge my credit card on file on the spot so it wouldn't be included in the 1000 limit. They had not a problem with doing this.

(for anyone seeing further into this, my son's AP was still good when we checked into CBR so we had no problems with getting the AP rate. It was mine that had lapsed by a month and a half.)

You got an AP rate on your son's AP card??? I thought it had to be an adult AP holder to get the room discount rate...

HEHEHEHEHE - I can only afford concierge because I am a nickle and dimer! I used to spend $3 at Starbucks daily, spend the $5 and throw the twoonie in my jar. I figured out of I go to Tim Horton on the other corner and spend $1.40 on a large coffee, that's an extra $1.60 daily savings and I'm still getting my caffeine fix. So I put $3.60 in my jar everyday as opposed to $2. :Pinkbounc

I set that money aside as spending money so it's one less thing I need to worry about and it's money I don't even miss. :bounce:

:guilty: :guilty: :guilty: me tooo!!!! This is my first NON STARBUCK sf vanilla latte day in ages, for $$$ and weight issues. I had managed to loose lots of weight with the coffee but am starting to feel bloated and heavy so I gave it up today.

You won't have to go back to the desk so long as your credit card is not declined. :)

It depends on the CM at the counter where you are making a purchase. I have had my limit at the Poly go over within 5 days of my stay on 4 different trips. Twice I was happily shopping at DtD and the CM at the counter would not call the hotel to approve the new limit. They said they could not do that. Each of those times I went back to the Poly front desk and was told that they are indeed supposed to call the resort to okay another $1500. I even told the CM at the World of Toys this and she would not do it.

Nope. You can use a child's ap. It isn't like they ever ask to see it anyway.

Next time, ask to speak with a Manager -- as that is rubbish. I've had CM's at Mousegear and WoD before call (2 times out of about 25 visits when I've put additional cash on my account) One of those two times, my key card had lost it's magnetic properties, and had to be re-swiped, and that was the cause of my problem.

I just knew someone would tear this post apart. :confused3
If it makes everyone feel better, My AP and my son's was still good when I made the reservations. Since we weren't going in November or December I let mine lapse when it came due in November. His AP was still good, and mine was as of 30 minutes after check in to CBR. Thank you to everyone who answered for me! :grouphug:

BTW>> My son has only ever owned an adult AP, even though he is years from being an adult.

i thought the kids' AP comment was a joke... again, it's a case if disney allows it, why should anyone care! :confused3

If a child's AP can get you an AP rate - then that's good to know!!! I wasn't tearing your post apart, it was amazement as that was something I had been previously told by CRO - it has to be an adult pass to book rooms.

Do I have to put a happy face or a little jumper for my posts not to be taken in the wrong way? :confused3

Then here - hooray for child's AP getting discount rooms! :cheer2:

The one time I did ask to speak to the manager and he told me the same thing. He wouldn't do it. That time I was at that sports store at DtD. The CC I always take to WDW has a$50,00 limit on it. Not that I've ever used that much! LOL! Anyway the card wasn't the problem. It was the $1500 that the resort puts on it in the first place. You shouldn't have to ever go to the front desk but it really depends on the CM. As we can all attest to, you get a different answer from every CM.

Interesting thread! When we went in 2003, we had three villas at BCV and at checkin I put my Amex on all three. Sometime during the process, I saw the $1500 figure (can't for the life of me remember exactly where) and asked about it. The CM explained the procedure of sending in the charge to Amex, and then I asked about the other two rooms; if the $1500 was divided up, we needed to take that into account. She said no, each room had a $1500 "ceiling" and we never had an issue with anything being refused. Maybe we didn't go over, I don't remember now.

I saw absolutely no "tearing" in your comment at all, simply that you were surprised this was the case. As you stated the policy on this situation seems to vary, depending on which CRO agent you get.

Actually the only "tearing" was the comment to yours, :rotfl:

I hit my $1500 preauthorization at YC while in the hotel gift shop. All they did was ask if I wanted the charges to be processed and they could set up another $1500 preauthorization. I didn't have to go to the front desk, call or anything.
That's the same thing that has happened to us, so I don't understand why some people are having to go to the front desk to clear out their account?
:confused3

I was told this was not a limit, they told me it was only the amount they preauthorized with the credit card company. I specifically asked about getting rejected if I charged something back to the room over the preauthorized amount and they said as long as the credit card would accept the charge it would go through. HTH

I didn't even think there was a limit! We always leave our American Express card. Last year we charged $1900 to our room and I don't remember having to go to the front desk, I thought they did it automatically!

Well you must have spoken to a young inexperienced manager....resorts tell merchandising TO call (It's in the companies best interest). I also use a 'high end card' at WDW, and I have yet to spend 100K there!....you may get a different answer, but the correct answer is that the stores are supposed to call.

I always got the same answer when confronting the front desk at the Poly and that is that the store is supposed to call the resort to okay another $1500. Twice this isn't the way it happened even though I knew the correct info. As I said before it depends on the CM at the store when you hit that limit. Some are too lazy to call or just think they are right. After spending 140 days onsite in the last 4 years I have come to that conclusion.

Well Terry, I've spent that amount of time or more in that timeframe.
In fact I've "charged" more than 20K to my room before (for some 'special events') and not had the problems you've outlined.
I guess we need to agree to disagree, as we share such opposing experiences. :)

I guess I missed where we agree or disagree on anything. :confused3 I was relaying MY experience and you are relaying YOUR experience. What is there to agree or disagree about? Why are you making this into such a big deal? We both had different experiences. So what. :confused3

I apologize if you feel I'm "making this into such a big deal".
that Isn't/wasn't my intent. The only purpose a board such as this (IMHO) serves is to inform others. I simply want 'others' to realize that we had had "different experiences".

Are we ok? :)
