I just heared that emergency crews are having a hard time getting into Houston because the roads are jammed with cars trying to get back in. i realize that they want to get home and see what they have left, but there will be a time for that after the officals make sure it is safe.

No one wants to be stuck in the gridlock traffic again. We were also thinking about heading back home today to try and beat the huge crowd.

This storm was minor as far as Houston goes. I would be trying to head back too just to avoid sitting in traffic for a few days again.

Two words of caution: NO GASOLINE. We just had a meeting on hurricane damage and when we will restart our operations there. There is no gasoline in the Houston area. Several reas, particularly south and east, do not have power. Some downtown buildings did have some wind damage - mostly blown out windows. BE CAREFUL PLEASE....

it's all over the radio and news that there is no gas in Houston, there is also a lot of areas w/out power in the metro area.

My DH got a call from FEMA to broadcast that people shouldn't go back because the congestion is making it hard for FEMA to get into that area.

They asked people to pull to the side for FEMA like you would for police/fire

We got back home a couple of hours ago. No damage here. We went throught Bryan/College Station to 290 then beltway south. There were cars on there but it wasnt bad at all. I didnt see any FEMA trucks anywhere.

We're going to try and head back tomorrow. We thought about leaving sooner but have our cats boarded at a vet near where we are staying and they are closed today. We're hoping to take the same route home as we did when we left. We plan to filll up at every small town that has gas along the way even if they are only 30 miles apart, with the hopes that when we do get home we can have some gas left for emergencies.

Just an idea: why don't you buy a gas can from wherever you are, a couple if available and along with filling up your car fill them up so you'll have them. So if when you get back to Houston and you need gas, you'll have it when necessary. :goodvibes I still have the gas cans I filled up from Hurricane Katrina. No need to use them although we were never out of gas here for longer than 2 days at a time.

That's not a bad idea! Maybe do so in Dallas if you're here because I had no trouble finding gas today.

A friend of mine headed back yesterday. The roads weren't too bad yet from what I understand.

My Sister got back to her house in Pasadena TX, yesterday, she had power, water, phone etc.

They didn't wanted to get stuck AGAIN on the road like they did when they left.
