Why do people put 'S' at the end of restaurant names when it does not belong?

Ohanas
Ohana's
Boma's
Bomas

It is OK for a restaurant not to end in S.

okay freshmanjs

:)

To tell you the truth I never really noticed anyone doing that and it doesn't bother me at all.

However, it isn't

Ohana

It's

'Ohana

It bothers me too. Those restaurants are not plural and they are not possessive. I guess the people who say that are the same people who shop at KMart's.

I got an offical survey from Disney about my stay at the VWL. It asked how I liked Roaring Rorks.

I find this quite interesting, too. It seems to be very common around here in Chicago-speak. My only guess is that it stems from the fact that many stores and restaurants were possessives, being named after a certain person/last name. There are many examples like this: McDonald's, Dominick's (local grocery), Arby's, Wickstrom's (local Swedish deli), etc. and the practice seems to translate to many places that obviously aren't meant to be possessives, hence Jewel's (local grocery) and then onto WDW (Boma's, 'Ohana's). I think I spend too much time thinking about linguistics and semantics!

haha! I have this cousin who says everything the .. lets go to THE Cvs, lets go to THE Friendlys, lets go to THE Disney World .. etc .. RAWR it drives me nuts! ;)

Most of the time it seems to happen with restaurant names that could be last names of individuals.

Well if we are discussing annoying dining comments, it is "dining" not dinning, it does not have 2 n's.

This annoys my husband SO much. My mom always says "Walmarts" and my husband says, "Oh you went to more than one Walmart?"

Has anyone else seen someone ask a question about Whispering Canyons?

It's annoying to me, too. Especially folks who claim it's their favorite restaurant, know the menu from front to back, yet can't even say the name correctly.
