Is your SIL having just one hand done? If he is, depending on what job he has, he may be able to go to work. If he is having both done at same time, he won't be able to do much. I had this surgery a few years ago and I had a difficult time doing the easiest things for myself. He should really take the Drs. advice, if he doesn't, he may cause himself more harm than good. He needs to keep in mind that he needs to take care of his hands because if he permanently damages something he may not be able to work at all. I know that sounds a bit extreme but you can't mess with nerves. Take it from someone who has permanent nerve damage.
