Why are crowd levels so off this week?

Yup, spring break for us!! If I recall correctly, the crowds don't typically drop until very end of April and then it's only for about 3 weeks before crowds start to go up again for summer.

According to crowd calculations the crowd levels are the same as this past Mardi Gras week. It was busy but very manageable. So I am expecting the same. Was there Mardi Gras week and will be there April 8 to the 16 for our spring break.

In NYC Spring Break is the week of the 25th to coincide with Passover. Easter and Passover usually fall during the same week most years so it doesn't happen often but every few years when the two holidays are very far apart the schools close down later.

Just wondering because spring break is over.
Much of the Northeast hasn't had theirs yet. For example, here are the dates of vacation weeks for some major/capital cities. It's a safe bet that much of the surrounding areas will follow suit:

New York: 4/25
Boston: 4/18
Hartford: 4/18
New Haven: 4/18
Burlington, VT: 4/18
Concord, NH: 4/25
Providence: 4/18
Portland, ME: 4/25

Bottom line...you are going to see a lot of these over the next couple of weeks.

This is sort of off topic but my friend live is Old Bridge, NJ and they cancelled spring break altogether because they couldn't decide whether to shut down for Easter week or Passover week.

Wow. I would have voted for "Both".

IMO, since Easter is on a Sunday and Good Friday is the only other big day for Easter, they should have done what NYC did - give G.F. off and then the Passover week later on.

I saw some video of MK today and man is it packed. I mean crazy busy. Huge lines at bag check. I think a person on another thread speculated that everyone is going to MK since DHS and Epcot don't have much to offer right now.

I was going to say, watch for Boston, the 3rd week in April-tons of people from MA!

Spring break really is spread out across early March through the end of April for the US, and the UK has their spring holiday right now too. Beyond that, people have been saying crowd level predictors have been off for the past couple of years. Last year was notorious for posts here saying that crowd levels were much much higher than they were "supposed" to be. The sad truth is there aren't really any low crowd times left at WDW, at least not what people expect when they see a crowd rating of 5 or below. I would expect it to be packed more than people expect it to be during any given point in the year now - the crowd scale really should be very crowded, insanely crowded, and so astronomically crowded why did we even bother.

I feel like it's crowded all of the time now? What are the truly low crowd weeks anymore?

Regardless of crowds, I hope you have a good trip OP!

I remember all the threads from last fall, which is historically a very slow, if not the slowest, time of year, and how crowded it was. I think we may just need to adjust our expectations.

Almost all of MI is on spring break and it seems like half the people around here went to FL.

True.
I went Feb.6-10, thinking it was a week before the marathon and Presidents week, the walkways were jammed, but the lines for rides were not to bad. I think Disney has a pretty good grip to get people to Disney. There really isn't anymore really down times anymore. Sure the parks may not be as packed as summer and Christmas week, but the days of any down time during the year is over.
