Why are Conservatives attacking SpongeBob??

well, I am an athiest. And I will tell you why. The extream Chrstian upset me. They have manipulated, distored, and blatenly changed the world of god into a supressive, powerhungry, judgmental cult. The men now use the word to oppress women, and to gain power, while hurting (mentally and physically) "non-bleievers". They use their word to drag people tooth and nail into their cult. Then they brain wash the women to "serve and follow" the man. I will not follow that, I refuse it! it also irks me that all of the "major" holidays were taken from the Paygans... Like the winter solistice, and spring Equinox. They are now Easter and Christmas. And then the fact of the ONE god... It just strikes me odd that a MALE created another MALE like himself, and all of a sudden just got the urge to create a COMPLEATLY DIFFERENT LOOKING creature called WOMAN to serve the man... that just catches me funny...Oh, and don't even get me started on another "great Flood and Ark" rant, because that will just get ugly.
That is my opinion, If you don't agree fine, if you do, fine. I am not looking for acceptance, nor to change anyone. I will not say that I am sorry that you don't believe what I believe, because that is just insulting. I am not out to start a debate. I am just stating my opinion. If you were insulted, I am sorry that you were, but I am not sorry for anything that I said. It is all the honest truth.

we're a conservative athiest family (figure that one out, because we label people) and we have both seasons of SB on dvd and went to the movie. so who's the target audience? 90 year olds who still have a credit card and can donate to the 'christian cause' because televangelisism is still uncontrolled and nontaxworthy.

What really makes me go "huh?" with the extreme Christians (not painting all with a broad brush - just the ones that make a lot of noise about inane things like this video) is that according to the Bible the only one that may judge a person is God. Yet in radical Christians there always seems to be a lot of judging going on.

Its one thing to share your beliefs and even proselytize but they seem to always cross the line into being judgemental. If Jesus were here what would he say about something that teaches children to respect everyone equally? Doesn't it infact instill firmer Christian beliefs in the child to "love thy neighbor"?

Its stuff like this that makes me glad sometimes that I am an agnostic. I live my life as a good person and try the best that I can, and I have a hard enough time keeping myself on the straight and narrow without judging anyone else's behavior.

CynJ--I'm a Christian, and I agree with you 100 percent. Those who are so judgmental don't seem to be taking Christ's teachings to heart. I've only seen a little bit of Spongebob, but he seems perfectly harmless to kids.

It takes a sponge to brainwash a child.

Holy Abe! Dr. Dobson outed SpongeBob at a black-tie inaugural fete last week for members of Congress and political allies. He said that a "pro-homosexual video" - starring SpongeBob, Barney, Jimmy Neutron, Winnie the Pooh, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy - was set to go to elementary schools to promote a "tolerance pledge," including tolerance for differences of "sexual identity."

Hoppin' clams, as they say in Bikini Bottom, the den of epicene iniquity where SpongeBob lives. Nothing good can come of tolerance.

Dan Martinsen, a spokesman for Nickelodeon, where SpongeBob beats the pants off the competition, was flummoxed: "It's a sponge, for crying out loud. He has no sexuality."

I forgot the Kermit and Miss Piggy was in the commercial. Does this mean that we have to close the Muppet attraction at MGM??

Cartoon icon calls James Dobson a “goofy goober”

BIKINI BOTTOM—SpongeBob SquarePants is dismissing allegations by a prominent Christian conservative leader that the cartoon icon is promoting tolerance of homosexuality among children and may be gay himself. Bikini Bottom's best-known resident is also asking the tabloid media to respect his privacy, and that of his cartoon sidekick Patrick, during what Mr. SquarePants acknowledged is "a difficult time."

This small underwater community has been under siege since last week when James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, condemned Mr. SquarePants for promoting a "pro-gay agenda." Dobson, who was in Washington DC attending various high-profile inaugural events, also attempted to 'out' Mr. SquarePants to major media outlets, noting that the cartoon star and his best friend Patrick are frequently seen holding hands. ....

While Dobson did not openly question the sexuality of any of Mr. SquarePant's co-stars, Big Bird and Barney are both believed to be gay. The two are said to have been involved, until recently, in a long-term relationship. Neither of the characters consented to be interviewed for this article.

The best way to deal with Dobson's attacks is to mock them which the cartoon's creators are now doing

Actually ... a friend of mine who is gay happened to be at my house when the Wiggles were on theTV. He said "How sweet! Four nice looking gay men singing children's songs." and from that moment on, I couldn't see them as straight again. Not that there's anything wrong with that . And yes, I know 3 out of 4 are married with kids.

I have to laugh when people want to make children's programming "gay" just because there is singing, animation, silliness, etc. Once my sister was saying something about "the show with those gay guys and the animals" and I had to LOL when I figured out she was talking about the Kratt (sp?) brothers on the show Zaboomafoo!

Remember, Dobson is the bozo is taking credit for delivering the fundamentist vote for Bush and getting him elected. I group him in with all conservatives including Falwell (who attacked Tinky Winky).
