Why all these extended ques?

So we are seasoned Disney travelers. We have gone during busy times ,we are gone during empty parks ,during holidays ,festivals the pandemic etc. I am not understanding all these extended outdoor ques going on now. If they’re not doing the social distancing anymore why are these lines extending all out of these attractions? I know this is gonna sound crazy but I feel like that takes away from the overall park appearance.

I haven’t been to a park since around July 8, but even then social distancing had stopped and we noticed less additional queue space used. But then my dh went last Tuesday to Epcot and he said FEA was lined up to China with no distancing. Guess it just depends on day and time.

The long queues and hour waits are a new normal that needs to be taken into consideration when planning a trip.

Part of the reason I think is that with no FastPass option, the entirety of the line is in one queue. Plus, with a lack of some of the live show options, parades and other things that may normally also take away some of the guests to other spots, it's pretty much everyone in a line for an attraction. That's my thinking at least.

Because the regular queues are full. The rides are designed to accept the FastPass lines and the regular. With only the regular open (for the most part) they can’t handle the crowds who don’t have all the shows and things that were huge crowd suckers.

this - it's a "perfect storm" combo: no FP lines, no people-eater shows/entertainment, fewer places to just "chill" due to mobile ordering and limited staffing/tables. Not pretty.

In a way, it's a little bit like the early days before FastPass existed. But at least then there were still other options to pull some guests away. Your perfect storm comment is spot on.

All of those reasons make perfect sense thank you so much for all who took the time to respond. It’s certainly not going to stop me from going but I think it just takes away from the aesthetic of the parks

Because they are still using that line, just not nearly as much as with FP+ (tours, DAS, recovery passes).

Soarin is doing this - they have 3 separate queues (maybe one was designed for single rider but never used?). 2 are for standby and one is for DAS/rider swap, etc.

On 7/22 Once you reached the indoor queue portion on Star Tours they filled in both sides of the queue

There a few weeks ago before it was this crowded and warned the family going for the first time in years ... it will not be the same especially without FP option (which we used often). Minimal dining, no entertainment, no characters, no FP+ .... the only way to get your monies worth is get in a line, ride, repeat. We spent four days in lines stopping only briefly to eat one meal a day. Any store we went in to for a brief cool off ... empty, CMs standing around, no buyers .... every time. So if you increase capacity without many other options, everyone will be doing the rides, every attraction will have lines, and less money will be spent.

The irony is all those who said FP+ is the reason for lines and look now that it's open we have none ... you wouldn't at 30-35% it was last year. Now that they are creeping it up to full capacity reality is that the standby can't hold everyone in the park and the attractions are mainly what they pay for. And when Small World is an hour, when POOH is an hour (my kids would never have survived that line) and every other decent ride in MK is close on an hour ... you just have to spend the day in line sadly.

This was my first time going in July, so I attributed it to partially that, partially people anxious to return post-pandemic, partially ????[what the *** is going on here?] I saw a 3 hour wait for FoP, a 75 minute wait for Splash Mountain (an hour after park opening) and a 90 minute wait for 7DMT. And unfortunately, posted wait times (at least the ones I entered) were pretty much the same as actual. For the 3 hour wait at FoP, the line backed up to the bridge to FoLK. I bet it does make people wonder.

Get used to it, because I don't think they're going to go away. One more place to stash people in the park and increase capacity. More people = more money = Happy Bob Cheapek.

It absolutely takes away from the experience and makes the parks seem even more crowded than they are. The queues are extending out because the lines are longer due to no FP+ system in place. Just got back from a week's stay and it's a mess!

Pretty simple. No Fastpass. …and it had a major (negative) impact on our last 10 nights here.

In the past, a queue that fit completely inside the normal line would be a 2 hour wait for most big rides. Because flashpass is gone, rides can get through an entire queue in 30 to 45 minutes, but people are willing to wait longer for attractions. So you get one hour waits that need extended queues.
