Why 8 day rental is less than 7 day?

I was researching for a friend who is adding and extra day to their car rental and have come across finding several quotes coming lower at 8day over 1week period. Strange?!? Are the rental companies targeting 1week rentals with higher rates?

It's possible that the weekly rate is higher than the daily rate - maybe for 8 days it's pulling up the daily rate for the entire rental period. That seems strange though, as it's usually the other way around.

You said your friend is adding a day to a car rental. The reservation is being recalculated at the current rates. The rates may have gone down.

That is happening to me too. If I put in for a 7 day rental I get $201. If I put in one more day, either arriving a day early or staying a day later, the rate drops to $176. This is with Alamo, mid-size SUV for the first week of February. I thought it very strange since I meet all of the typical criteria. I arrive on a Saturday and pick up that AM and drop off 7 days later in the PM. I only found this out when someone recently posted a cheaper rate for an 8 day stay, so thought, wow, mine will be cheaper....nope. Maybe it will change as I get closer, just thought this was strange.

I read about this on Mousesavers too. Seems it happens a lot on Budget and Dollar. I need an 8 day rental, so if you find a great deal post it. heehee
