Just curious. DD's OB told her not to lift for 4 weeks or run the sweeper for 2 weeks. Can't drive for 2 weeks.

Is this normal?

I remember getting in big trouble for carrying my two year old around the maternity floor after I delivered her brother...I guess I wasn't supposed to do that.:confused3

Sounds about normal.

I know for me it was no driving for a week. No lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk (unless of course...you have a baby that weighs 13 pounds or something like that -- then you can lift the baby. :) Mine wasn't that big but I had a roommate that did when my oldest boy was born. My heaviest was over 9 pounds -- I don't know how much a gallon of milk weighs though).

Basically nothing streneous for I do believe at least a week, probably 2. By baby #4, I didn't really have time to not do a whole lot, so I don't remember the restrictions. I do know, I got out of the hospital on Saturday & Sunday he was at an all day gymnastics meet with me watching my DD. I did at least have DH drive me.

I had a C-section with both of my kids.

I think they suggested not driving for a couple of weeks and no lifting for a couple of weeks. Nothing about not vacuming sp?

I did drive and left after a week, I was feeling fine.

I think I was restricted from driving for two weeks and from lifting for a month. I had a c-section. I only had DS to lift with the carseat and did that from the time we went home from the hospital. I had him on a Tuesday and was driving that following Monday.

Not to lift anything heavier than the baby for 4 weeks. No driving the car for at least 2 weeks. This was for the last pregnancy I had a couple of years ago and a ******l birth. I had a very bad delivery and had a hard time healing up internally so after 2.5 weeks I tried to drive and it was something I didn't want to rush back doing. Pushing the break actually caused me some pain.

My two friends who recently had c-sections were restricted from driving for at least 4 weeks.

Was it a C-section?
FDoes she have an older child he is worried that she will carry?

:confused3

I didn't have a C-Section

I didn't have any restrictions. I don't think I could go 2 weeks without driving!

Gallon of milk, 8 pounds. I am HR rep for a C-store chain, it is a fact I must know and use daily due to work related restrictions.

I had a c-section and they didn't give me any driving restrictions..I was in the hospital for 4 days- friend took me to the mall the day I got out of the hospital and then after that I drove---had to take my daughter to the Dr every day so there really was no choice anyway but to drive.

The reason you aren't supposed to drive after a c-section is due to the stomach muscles you actually use while pushing the accelerator and the brake. A person can actually do harm to themselves if they do the restricted tasks to early. A neighbor insisted on driving 3 days after coming home from the hospital after a c-section, had to slam on brakes to avoid an accident, but had to be put back into the hospital due to internal damage from pushing the brake too hard and yanking the steering wheel. Her doctor was furious!

Both of my children were born via c-sections and my restrictions were : no driving for 3 weeks, and don't lift anything heavier than the baby. My OB reminded me each time not only did a deliver a baby but had major stomach surgery in the process.

Not a C-section; easy delivery, no stitches, 3rd child

It is her 3rd child. Perhaps they are worried that her uterus will stop contracting if she pushes it and she could hemmorage. I know after my 4th they gave me 2 bags of pitocin after I gave birth to help my uterus contract. I also have super fast labor that can cause problems like that.

That makes no sense. I've had 5 children with no restrictions. I can understand for a c-section, but not any other reason.

No c-sections here, and those were my exact restrictions. No lifting anything heavier than 10 lbs was the wording. They had to change mine a bit, since my first was 10 lbs 8 oz--changed to nothing heavier than the baby. My girls are 14 and 10, so it is nothing new.

BTW--I drove after a week, maybe even a little less than a week:)

I don't understand that - I did have stitches and I didn't have any restrictions. I think I was driving 2 days out of the hospital.

I had two ******l deliveries and stitches for both and had no restrictions.
