Who's your favorite author and why?

My absolute favorite is Nancy Collins, she writes so beautifully about weird and scary characters. SHe writes circles around Stephen King and Anne Rice, IMO.

I also adore JK Rowling's series in progress.

He hasn't written much but Schecter writes very well, in the true crime genre.

James Herriot is really good too.

Robert Heinlein is my all-time favorite, simply because his books are highly entertaining while still making me think about things in ways I may not have before (for instance, I learned to really appreciate great art after reading a passage in Stranger in a Strange Land, of all things).

Mercedes Lackey has to be up there on my list, just for pure entertainment value.

Gotta give a shout to JK Rowling, considering the fact that I love the Potter series.

On a classical note, I'll read just about anything written by Mark Twain, but much prefer his non-fictional essays.

I read a lot of fantasy, so there are several authors that I really appreciate in that genre other than Lackey (Feist for the Riftwar series, Jordan for the Wheel of Time, George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire...I could go on and on and on).
