Who's your favorite author and why?

I've always liked Ernest Hemingway and Hermann Hesse. Both had a great talent for describing things.

I read alot, I can't pick just one

Michael Connelly
James Lee Burke
Jeffery Deaver
Nevada Barr
sue Grafton
Steven King
and the author who got me hooked on reading when I was a child... Agatha Christie

I have a bunch of authors that I read all their books, not sure I can say exactly why I love them, I just do.
They are:
Elizabeth Berg
Patricia Cornwell
Tess Gerritson
Nora Roberts
Nicholas Sparks
Lorna Landvik
Haven Kimmel(loved her 2 memoirs)
Philippa Gregory

It's a tie between Stephen King and Dean Koontz ~ I like books that are on the dark side ;)

I thin my brain cells are a bit fried. I haven't enjoyed adult books in a while. I do get my daily take of the children's literature, however.

I love Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Margaret Wise Brown, and any author/illustrator that has pretty pictures and words that rhyme. ;)

Lincoln child and DOuglas preston.......co authors on ten or so books.....outstanding books........they keep you on the edge of your seat and I have read some of their books in less then two days........when I can pick up a book and start off and I dont want to put it down.......then to me those are great authors.. :thumbsup2

James Patterson and Nora Roberts are my favorites right now. I can always count on them to have an engaging story that is well written. They may not win the Pulitzer but their stories are always interesting.

Agatha Christie is my favorite. She's the Queen of Crime. I just love her style and characters and her approach to crime is strongly psychological. And she loves to pair up characters and her adventures are fun to read. Poirot is my absolute favorite of her detectives and I have all those Suchet DVDs.

My all-time favorite is Ernest Hemingway. :) His prose is clear and concise and his descriptions (particularily in his war books) are superb.

I don't read too many books, mosty comics.. but I like Mercedes Lackey. I thought "Firebird" was really good, and could easily be made into a cartoon movie.

Nicholas Sparks-I love romance and he writes about it beautifully. :)

Stephen King - my favorite writer in my favorite genre

Ray Bradbury - a master in all types of fantasy

Richard Matheson - wrote great books and great episodes of the Twilight Zone

Agatha Christie - without question the queen of mystery

Dashiell Hammett - gave us The Thin Man, Sam Spade and other great characters

Lillian Jackson Braun - for writing the fun "fluff" that keeps me sane sometimes

Poe's poetry

Spark's romance novels

King's horror

Rowling's novels

Renaldi's history

Snicket's novels

LaJoyce Martin, Catherine Cookson, James Herriot are three authors that come to mind as favorites.

No contest here.... Stephen King. While I haven't read every single book he's written, I've read most of them. My favorite is The Stand.

I also enjoy Doris Kearns Goodwin, Amy Tan and Dean Koontz. Oh and let's not forget Kitty Kelley.

Ann Rule. I like the way she writes and what she writes about. :)

I read a large variety of books. I'd say my favorites by Genre are:

Anne MacCaffery: Fantasy (but Mercedes Lackey is a close 2nd)
Dean Koontz: Horror (sometimes he can be repetitive, but overall, I like his stories)
Tom Clancy: Military Fiction (I don't like his spin off series though)
Nora Roberts: Mindless Romances (but I'll read Jayne Ann Krentz, Janet Evanovich, and others!)
Jerry Jenkins: General Fiction (and the Left Behind Series). This author is an excellent general fiction author. The books not in the LB series aren't overtly religious (but recognize that I'm a Christian, so you might not feel the same). However, they are books that show you can grasp someone's attention without a lot of sex, violence or language. The Youngest American Hero is wonderful!

Used to be Clive Barker...not so much lately...also like David Sedaris, Nora Roberts (an occassional guilty pleasure), Gregory Maquire, any good Sci Fi (Heinlein, Clarke, farmer, LeGuin, Asimov, Card, etc, etc...), Bradbury, Piers Anthony (Incarnations series mostly), Lewis (Narnia and the space trilogy), and MArion Zimmer Bradley (Mists of Avalon is my favorite book - man, I could go on and on.....
