Who's watching the Inauguration today?

Yep, I watched it too with my eldest. He's only 5 but could sense it was very important and historic, and I told him this would be something he would remember for the rest of his life and something he would tell his grandchildren, He watched the first black president become 'boss of the world', as he calls him! lol

Very moving and left me feeling very positive about the way the world will be from now on. He has a hell of a lot of pressure, but I honestly think he will change the world for the better.

You know i have been watching a little of this again on the news this morning+the 'joke' is,is he REALLY president-because of fluffing his lines.Charlie Wolf-Political Correspondent,is hinting+making comments about this-but he is also blaming the 'guy' who spoke the words Obama had to recite,as mucking it up as well!!!!!!!!.x.

This is the first time Chief Justice Roberts has sworn in a President but as a young man he almost surely will be doing this task several more times in his career as Supreme Court Justices hold their position for life--the only branch of the Federal Government that allows that. Judge Roberts fluffed the line and obviously President Obama had memorized the line and for a second he paused and seemed to be considering whether the correct thing (and least embarrassing for Judge Roberts) would be to say it as it was pronounced or the way it is written. They both managed to recover and even smile which must have been a little difficult as they were aware that people all over the world were watching and/or listening to what they said--mistakes and all!

DD (6) was very excited as we were in the States at the time of the election and so she knew all about it. We watched a bit last night - makes a change from Disney Channel lol!

I thought Obama's youngest daughter giving him the thumbs up was a lovely moment. I just hope that he can live up to expectations

Paul,
Our little displays of royal treatment are given to people who can be kicked out at the next election. Even if they're great and we love them they can only stay for 8 years. I believe you're stuck with your royalty a bit longer, is that not right? Although we enjoy a little pageantry every now and then, a time limit is always involved. As to the really fancy trappings of royalty, we reserve titles and rhinestone tiaras for very special people. Almost every county in every state has their own queen connected to some agricultural product--Peach Queen, Strawberry Queen, Sweet Potato Queen. Elegant affairs, these coronations. Maybe you'll get to see one some day. There must be a dozen annual events of this type within driving distance of Orlando. Who knows, you might help choose a Queen.

The royalty was regaring the Kenedys.you knoe the drunks,womanisers ect,just like our royals

Yes, we watched the inauguration- that being me, 2 dd's and ds and mil and my grandson Charlie who at 6 months old sat on my knee and watched Obama being sworn in as the next usa -we took photos of this historical moment

The important question is, is he actually President? Surely making a mistake (and I think actually not saying the word "faithfully") during the oath of office, must mean he's not really the Pres? If so, I think the only thing to do is offer my services to the good old US of A:rotfl2:

He has taken the oath again Matt, must have heard about your offer :rotfl2:

I think they should get the poet back to recite one that actually rhymes.

I think they should get the poet back to recite one that actually rhymes.

why dos a poem have to ryhme?

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Because it's the law. :teeth:

Paul, my sweet, you do get that (a) it's a joke and, (b) that the poem you've quoted does rhyme, right?
