Ok, this is going to sound like a flame - but it's not.
It's actually a statement of how I have come to view Republicans, and a request that one of their own help put some of my misconceptions to rest. (I used to think they were all horrible people, until I got one as a proffesor and discovered I actually like him.)

Republicans are - Rich people, or people who someday want to be rich and want this system set up to support them when they get there, or who just flat out idolize the rich. Republicans don't care who gets hurt, or if they can't put food on the table so long as the powers that be put guns in their closets, God in the Class Room - and everywhere else in the public and political spectrum, and Gays somewhere out of site and mind - preferably in some kind of containment camp. Republicans hate gays, and still belive a woman's place is in the kitchen and tending to the babies. Want to take all the money from social programs so they can put them into the pockets of wealthy people. Keep telling me to pully myself up by my bootstraps, but keep cutting the bootstraps. (I'm going to school to get a degree that I can maintain with my disability - would the current adminstration please stop cutting back my funding?)

Now - as I said this despite all outward appearances is not meant as a flame... but as long as you're here I thought I'd lay out all my thoughts, and give myself a chance to be educated by a sane rational member of the party I've come to see as evil and scary... (No sarcasam, I mean it - I really do want to be educated and who better then an actual Republican?)

What you described seems pretty right-wing to me. I don't think most Republicans are like this at all. DH and myself included. But then maybe we are not true Republicans if we don't agree with all the stuff you listed. I don't know and I don't care. I just believe in what is RIGHT whether it be red or blue. The media likes to sensationalize both sides.

OK Concerning the OP's post and original topic of the sky writer. This is my beef with it. I am not offended when I see something that says Jesus Loves You. If I saw the sky writer, I would have been like "Oh that's weird" because it's not something you see every day.
- On a side note, now if I see him this December, I will surely be like, "Oh look! It's the skywriter everyone in the DISboards made such a fuss about!" And of course my DH would look and say "OMG YOU'RE so weird!" -
Anyway, it offends me to think that they are most likely taking people's money and using it to do this. If not that's fine, but I just doubt this is one really rich guy who can afford to do this all the time. The website seems to be some kind of group. I would rather see them spend the money on something less elaborate and help the people who REALLY need help (like the homeless and orphaned in the community).

that's another good point that I am surprised no one has brought up yet.!!! The money could probably be used to do more good than it can accomplish here - as quite a few have said, his chance of converting anyone are pretty slim (I mean, if you already live in this culture, you already get the message and don't need a skywriter at Disney...who looks up and goes "who is this "Jesus" guy???") - he is without a doubt spreading a message that uplifts those who already agree - and that is cool!!! - but this is a little over the top for either purpose - and costly...money better spent to effect real change/truly help someone in need!

And everyone else pointed out that there is also a church in EPCOT (Norway) and you don't seem to have a problem with that.

Bigot.

I do not have a problem with a religion of peace.

You are an ignorant fool.

See I am beginning to understand that not all Republicans feel that way, I'm trying to figure out I guess, if this isn't what they belive - what do they belive?

All myths have their basis in fact somewhere, even if it has been so twisted from it's orginal form as to be unrecognizable. I guess I'm trying to figure out what the orignal basis of reality is...

Does that make any sense? If I don't understand both sides, I mean really understand... and stop seeing an "us" vs "them" mentality - or just blindly beliving the hype... then how can I possible make fact based well thought out opinon?

OMG! Are you seriously suggesting that anyone who smokes, drinks or curses is NOT a Chrtistian. Well I don't smoke, but I'm guilty of the other two, so I guess I am going to Hell! Will you pray for me please?
Based on your location, I'd guess you did both in large quantities last Saturday. ;)

And yes, I registered to post that.

Interesting.... considering *I* consider myself a rebublican whom thinks the sky-writing is ridiculous. Absurd...

Nor do I want God in the classroom - nor do I "hate" gays.... my goodness, your post has too many things to comment on.

Great synopsis, BTW. :sad2:

Who are you trying to kid?
You make the statement below after making this statement: I guess I am a freak too, but then again I would rather be a freak than a pagan. . You don't like nor respect any religion not your own, and you'll hide behind any fallacy to support this bigotry.

Whoa, this has gone WAY off topic!! I only checked back today after my original post to see 12 pages worth of arguments, anyone else think this has gotten a little out of hand?!

Anyway the reason I posted was to see if anyone knew who he was.

Is he a corporate guy? Is he paid to do what he does? Who is he? He's obviously INCREDIBLY talented, we were amazed at what we saw. It really was neat. I think he was out flying for 3 of the 14 days we were there, but I can't be sure, as when we were in the TL main pool we could see him, but sat in the kiddie area we couldn't. Anyway, we were very impressed, we thought at first he'd been hired to write someone a marriage proposal! :rotfl2:

interesting point - so, yaksack...what is your problem with Pagans..are they not peaceful..most I know follow a "Harm None" philosophy?????

You did read the part where I said I was becoming aware of the misconceptions I have learned to belive in and wanted to learn right? Is it so blessed wrong to ask someone from the other side to help me gain an understanding - or would you prefer I continue to get all my information from the far leaning left?

You are an ignorant fool.

If you only have problems with religions that have a history of violence, then I guess you have problems with every religion. Try cracking open a history book. The fact is there have always been violent extremists in every religion and there are peaceful, loving people in every religion. And you keep frothing at the mouth about the muslim architecture in Morocco, yet you have no problem with the church in Norway. That makes you a hypocrite. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Hypocrite.

I think there's another theme park in the Orlando area that has Christian themes only. Maybe you'd be more comfortable there. For us others, who like to learn and experience all the world has to offer, we'll enjoy EPCOT's World Showcase. :)

Wow. Well I'm a registered Republican and this couldn't be further away from describing me. We're far from rich and I don't idolize anyone, I work outside of the home (by choice) and far from hating gays, have quite a few friends who are gay. I also do not consider myself religious, spiritual, yes, but religious no and don't belong to any particular church. And there are quite a few social programs that I donate to--I just like to choose which charities I donate to myself, and can't do that when half of my paycheck is taken with taxes.

Oh, well I guess one thing does apply to us, DH does have a thing for his guns :teeth:

I'm a socially liberal financially conservative Republican. In other words I think putting resources into job creation (your pockets of the rich) is better than putting it into pockets of those who exploit and live off of the government and to the bloated goverment itself. I would like to keep more of my money and not give it to someone, who tells me how I should spend it (taxes). I'm not saying that people who are truely disabled should not get a check, they should. I have a problem with people who can work who have jobs available to them but refuse to work or better themselves. I feel that social organizations (privately funded) or church organizations should work with feeding and clothing and aiding the needy (they seem to do a much better job than the government has ever done, my sister works for an organization and they do wonderful things). I feel my tax dollars should go to infastructure (roads, fire depts, police departments, environmental quality, etc) and my charitable donations (which I give generously of my $$ and time) to the needy.

Now for the socially liberal part. I think people should be able to live as they chose as long as it does not harm others. I don't think you can legislate morality.

No problem with them. I think they are going to hell, but I have no problem with them.

1. Seems to me like someone change the name of the structure to Koutoubia Minaret.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koutoubia_Mosque

mosque (msk) KEY

NOUN:

A Muslim house of worship.

2. Avoid looking up if is bothers you.

3. A radical will stand out.
1. Is that all you have to say? The Koutobia Minaret in Morocco is not in itself a mosque. There isn't a replica of a mosque in Epcot, only of a minaret.

2. I don't have a problem with any World Showcase buildings, I think they're pretty.

3. Radicals don't always stand out. If they did, wouldn't some people have stopped the 9/11 hijackers before they got on a plane?

Your logic is lacking.

so then if the skywritings said "Goddess Bless" you would be here in the same spirit?????? It would be Ok with you and calling the skywriter a "freak" would be wrong???? You would be tolerant and respectful???
