Who's rethinking Sept. 2005 because of hurricanes?

Tonight, DH told me that because of all the hurricanes this year, he's now rethinking our plan to go to WDW in September, 2005. I'm so disappointed! This seems so unreasonable to me, but then again, I'll admit that anytime you think of not going to WDW seems unreasonable to me. So is anyone else having second thoughts about this time of year? He says maybe October instead, but really, if September is bad weather-wise, might October be just as bad? August? November? What would you suggest?

Hurricane season lasts through November, so October doesn't mean safe. I have a Family reunion planned for sept 2005, ruled out November through March due to possible winter travel conditions, and summer due to crowds, and I've been thinking..."yes, get those hurricanes out of the way before next year!" I know, that's crazy, but hey, there have only been 3 times that hurricanes closed WDW since 1971, and 2 of them were this year, so 2005 looks good to me! We're going ahead with our plans...come what may!

By the way, I noticed your tag about your cat. We have a cat where I work (I'm a bookkeeper in a nursing home) that is the same way! Our staff development person has a sink in her office and the only place Pounce will drink from is the running faucet in her office. It's really funny to watch him.

Our local weatherman just said the other night that Oct is noteably the worst month for hurricanes. There have been more hurricanes in Oct than any other month.

They were also explaining that we have been in a lull for the past 20 years on hurricanes. I forgot the exact reason, but what ever the reason was it is now over and we should except the same amount or more hurricanes that we are getting this year for the next 20 or 25 years. I am not happy with that since I live in South Florida.

I won't plan another trip for Sept, I know that! I think we're going to try May or December next time.

Actually, August through September are the busiest in the season. June/July and October/November are not historically as busy. However, due to Mother Nature's natural cycle, we are entering a few decades of busy hurricane seasons. This is just a normal cycle.

Tigger is a little wierd. We got him as a teeny kitten, 5.4 ounces, who'd been abandoned. I've never seen another cat do this, so I was worried it was somehow due to his "unusual" up-bringing. The worst is when he shakes his soaking wet head and we get water sprayed everywhere!

I wish I could get DH to go in December, to see the Christmas festivities, but I'm so afraid he'll just never get comfortable about going for another year. I don't want to wait until 2006!

We're supposed to go in Sept. '05 for our second trip on our AP's. They'll expire on Oct. 3. We've done that pattern before and it worked out well. We will probably not change our plans based on the hurricanes this year. I may, however make sure we have a buffer week between our trip and the expiration of our AP's in case we have to postpone it a bit.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

My husband just recently asked if I wanted to spend our 25th wedding anniversary at WDW. Of course I said yes!!!! My anniversary is Sept 20th and I so want to spend it there next year. :hyper:

Like another poster said September is the busiest month for hurricanes, not October. Since we both live in South Florida I am interested to know what weather man you heard say this, I think I could guess which one it was.

I just asked DH as I read this thread here and he said oh yes..there are always things that could prevent you from going. Bad storms at home, snowstorms, earthquakes, tornadoes you name it..it is always a gamble. We will gamble on Sept again as it is such a good time to go with great rates....:sunny:

Let me mention I am one who had to change my flights twice due to Frances and ended up with a shortened trip..but we will still go in September again...:sunny:

Actually I heard it on chanel 10 ABC and chanel 4 CBS. they stated according to all records, there have been more hurricanes in Oct than any other month. Yes I have always thought that sept was the busiest, not aug even though we had Andrew, but Sept was always the month I dreaded the most./

Hurricane Reason and I'm not kidding;
La Nina and El Nino....making the waters
off the coast of west Africa warmer than normal. Therefore, more disturbances
have been forming in the warmer waters
off the coast of Africa and becoming tropical depressions and eventually hurricanes. This phenomena has just
started and is expected to last 30 years.

It is probably just a case of manipulating data. On month probably has the highest number of hurricanes. While the other probably has the highest number of hurricanes that hit land. Just using the informatian in different ways to keep people involved.

Actually, not true...the waters warming is normal. It's certainly not a phenomena...just mother nature's normal cycle.
