Not only do the member cruises get the crappy sail dates that are hard for DCL to fill but I have never been able to see anything offered on them that could POSSIBLY be worth the higher cost. DCL's are overpriced enough w/o the additional surcharge added on by calling it a "member cruise". I seriously doubt that we will ever be in a position where we have the extra money to throw away on one of them.

So I take it that your reply would fall into the category:

No - Not interested in Booking a Cruise

I didn't say I am not interested in booking a cruise. We have one booked - but for a date that works for us. I have no interest in Alaska in May or September and both of the dates offered conflict with DS's school anyway. So I checked the one with the scheduling conflicts because although these dates are better than October they still conflict with our DS's school. On top of that I can't justify paying more for dates that don't really work for us. I don't see what makes them cost more than what DCL already charges. An extra meet & greet and a special tote bag? That's not enough incentive for me to spend so much more. But primarily the dates don't fit school schedules.

I have always felt the MC's special entertainment made up for the extra money we may have paid for the cruise itself. The gifts we have gotten have mostly been given away, notable exceptions have been the special prints we have gotten, which have been framed and displayed in our home. Plus the cruise pins that were given in 2005 are very special to me!

PS. Yet, it is the entertainment and the camaraderie that I most look forward to experiencing.

This is how I feel too. Exclusive experiences (no matter the source) are always more expensive. We could go to the local science museum for the price of admission/person. But when we rented it out after hours for our son's graduation party, it was a once in a lifetime experience, that was well worth the added expense to us. Totally get that most people wouldn't want to spend the $$$ on this, but how many kids can say that they got to play XBox in a planetarium???

Same with a Disney Member Cruise. I remember all of the special moments on our 2005 cruise. Meeting and hanging out with fellow DVC Members. The kids "meeting up" before the actual cruise began. DVC centric activities and gifts. It was a low-key fun experience (with a DVC sales pitch or ten thrown in ;). Definitely not right for everyone, but it worked for us.

I voted no, not interested in cruises, but my response is more that I am not interested in booking expensive DVC Member Cruises, not just cruises in general as I have taken 8 DCL cruises.

Getting ready to book on Sunday. Looking at the poll results, it may be really crazy trying to get through. Good luck everybody!

I'd love to do another members cruise but I just can't justify paying the premium that they charge for it.
