Who's Interested in a DIS/GKTW Team for 2010 Marathon Weekend?

What Race Would You Register For?

  • 5k/3.1 miles (Friday, Jan 8, 2010)

  • Half Marathon/13.1 miles (Saturday, Jan 9, 2010)

  • Full Marathon/26.2 miles (Sunday, Jan 10, 2010)

  • Goofy Race and a Half Challenge (Jan 9 & 10)

  • Goofy + 5k (Jan 8, 9, & 10)

Results are only viewable after voting.
Based on length the 5K would be easiest. The pacing requirements will be on the marathon page of the endurance page.

If you want to participate in the half or full marathon but don't think you can finish in the allotted time there are volunteer opportunities. I know the WISH board manned a water stop for both the half and full. With all the added attention from the podcast crew there may be a big enough turn out for two water stops.

Thanks Maroo! I was wondering how it all worked. I will check out the site and talk to DH about participating. We are in the mists of losing weight and I would love for this to be a great motivational factor! It's for a great cause and I heard that it is really fun too. I am glad DISers are getting involved alongside The DISunplugged crew:)

One more question! I checked out the disneyrunning site and is it the Safari Family 5k in AK that would be for kids and begginers? I didn't see any strollers, but could you bring a small child and jog with a stroller or us this not allowed? Ok... That was two questions:)

So having never run a marathon should I do the 5k or the 1/2???

Am I right that we are waiting to hear to register for the race or should we register now? I am a bit confused on what to do at this point

I would say it depends on what condition you are in.

If you can hold off registering for a bit I should have more details next week hopefully.

Well since I dont really run or walk now but do have an eliptical machine at the house what do you suggest?

It depends on how much you want to train and what you think your body can do, everyone is different. I went from never running more than a mile to running the Disney half in less than a year. If you head over to the WISH boards you will hear a lot of different stories and get encouragement for your first race.

There are resources online to get some training plans for running your first 5K, your first Half, or your first Fill. This site is very good but a little exploration on Google will give you some options. If you would like to do the half I would suggest finding some 5Ks this summer and run/jog/walk them so you have a few under your belt before doing Disney. Even if you are doing the 5K it is a good idea to at least do one near home so you aren't down in Florida in the middle of a vacation with no idea how your body will feel later that day. That way you know what to expect.

I'll be doing my first half in Jan.10 and plan on walking it, with a little jogging thrown in because with my adrenalin flowing it's hard not to. I've only done a 10K and a 15K so far, but there's plenty of time for training.
As suggested head over to the WISH board, you will find lots of support and encouragement and good advice on walking/running.
I think there is plenty of time to train for the 1/2 if you want to participate in it. I think it will be a blast.

Thank you so much for working on this for us!!!!

I know what you mean, it was just an observation. This is what I was talking about with the sponsors:

Frank and Dave,
Great job on putting this together. Now all we need is for Pete and the gang to see it and sign off, and then GKTW to give us approval and I will have a new shirt in my wardrobe.:cool1:

Keep on running and see you in January.

Dave

Excellent Dave. Let me know if you want me to tweak anything or get you the raw files so you can make them a higher resolution for printing.

Can we make a DIS runs the LAND version of this for the Disneyland Marathon weekend? There are already a group of ladies planning to do the 5k and 1/2 marathon in Disneyland on labor day weekend, plus a group of WISHers. How can we link into DIS and GKTW?

Hey guys - joining up on this thread, too, as I am part of the crew that is trying to organize DL board fans and podcast listener group participation for the DL 5K.

Grizbuzz has some fabulous ideas and we would love for the various groups like WISH and the DL Board members to feel like they have a stake in this cause, too. Can we work together to make this happen?:cool1:

I can easily change it to Land. I think we are waiting for Dave to get permission to use the name and symbols and see exactly what the crew wants the logo to be. If it turns out that they use some rendition of mine I can make any changes they want and can make a Disneyland version, no problemo. I can also change the font to the Disneyland font instead of the WDW font.

A Bit like:

This is awesome! I'll just wait until we hear more from Dave. Also, if there's a way to just provide the logo, or provide people options on shirt styles (eg, ladies, tank, plus size) that would be great!

Thanks so much!

Kathy/Dave,

Any updates? I have a feeling the run is out for me this year but I would be interested in seeing what packages are available.

You are reading my mind. I am trying to price stuff right now for the Jan trip and a possible Sept trip...trying to decide how to approach these. :)

I may end up going in Sept, Dec and Jan! Crazy, I know. :rotfl: So I need to see how crazy I really am! :)

I have turned into a nag trying to get the info from Disney. As soon as I know anything I will share it here.

I am interested in doing the Half Marathon.
I'll continue to monitor this thread to see what the fundraising minimums will be, etc...

Hopefully I can get away at that time.
