Who's in love with their Dachshund?

We love our doxie Marvin. We got him when our oldest was 2. He is now 11. My daugher dressed him up, carted him around in her baby carriage, whatever she wanted, he was fine with as a puppy. Now that he's old, not so much. He's alittle more set in his ways, and that is fine. I didn't expect him to act like a baby his whole life. I guess what I'm trying to say, if you get a doxie pup when you have little ones, I think it'll get on with kids. If your doxie isn't around kids much at all, then throwing a kid in the mix is questionable. He has bitten the girls each once, but never without being provoked.

He is SO good. He stays in the back yard even when the fence gate is open. He's a lap dog and his biggest priority is finding the warmest, best place to sleep.

OMG, yours looks just like ours. Is Marvin a little overweight? Ours is (my sig pic is outdated) and he doesn't even eat a whole lot. He walks daily. I wish I knew how to help him. He packed it on right after he got fixed. We got him at 2 years old and was not neutered before that.

ckay87 - I'm a Bon Jovi fan too! Whoo hoo!:cool1:

I'm loving the pics! Keep them coming.

My folks got a miniature dachshund about 5 months ago, they hadn't planned on getting another dog after our last one died about 3 yrs ago. Then mom my saw this little guy at a friends house (their dog just had a litter) and couldn't resist bringing him home. He has my folks wrapped around his little paw!! He is spoiled rotten and knows it. They are entering him into the Wiener Dog races this coming Labor Day, I can't believe it. They were never like this with any other dogs our family has had, it is pretty funny to see. :lmao:

I have two. After my first dog died, some friends of ours who breed doxies gave him to us for pretty cheap. I was in 6th grade. I remember holding Schnitzel when he could fit into the palm of my hand. Sadly, the pic of him I have on the comp is not a great one. He was attacked by our neighbor's german shepherd last year when my dad was taking him for a walk. Miraculously he survived, but the hair they shaved to do the sugery never grew back (that is why he is bald in the pic.) My dad is so funny with him, he walks him every morning and they must get their rabbit spotting quota in or it will be a bad day.:rotfl:

Matthias is my other one. He is Jack Russell/Dachshund mix. He has the coloring of a Jack but the body of a dachshund. He is more mellow than Schnitzel. Schnitzel will bite if you try to take something away from him, Mattie is not like that at all. He is my Houdini Dog. I had to work hard to get all the various gaps patched in the fence in my new house before I could let him run. He is also very outgoing and another one that never meets a stranger. He'll bark, but the minute you sit down he is on your lap licking. He is also my burrow baby. If there are covers, he will burrow under them. He is also a huge cuddler (when he is not going crazy licking me to death.) He has been so good for my other dog, Eragon who was abused. Erie used to be really shy and reserved, Mattie helped to bring him out of his shell.

I did find a pic of Matthias with Schnitzel from before the attack. We were visiting my parents for Christmas.

Our Gretal girl... such a sweetie for the most part. Funny, plays alot .. makes us laugh. BUT if someone comes in she isnt a fan of she will sneak attack. We are very careful about who we let her play with. Doxies arent always the sweetest thing.
I have had 5 over my 36 yrs and all have had very different personalities. 3 out of the five were a bit aggressive with men and some children. We also have Teddy who I rescued from New Orleans shelter. Not a mean bone in his body.. gorgeous short haired red, but doesnt play with anyone. Only wants to chase squirrels and then curl up on the couch after a long day in the yard. Sometimes when feeling frisky he will play around with our cats in the funniest manner.. poke them with his nose and then hop around them waiting for a response.

Another Gretal pic.. she wasnt a fan of the hat lol. Or the SNEAUX... as we call it here in Louisiana. HAHA!

I have a black and tan mini doxie. I never thought I could get sooo attached to a dog. I've recently noticed she is jealous of small (toddlers) kids. My daughter was babysitting a 18 month old at our house, everytime one of us picked her up maggie would stand up on her hind legs dancing around wanting us to pick her up. She also burrows under the covers at night. She will not sleep on top of the covers. She is also protective. My daughter came in one night after we had gone to bed...well maggie heard the noise outside..she flew out from under the covers and took off to the front door going beserk. My daughter kept saying maggie, it's me.:rotfl: I think they are great pets. You do have to try to keep them from jumping from high places because they are prone to back problems. I am still trying to break maggie...

I'm loving all the pics!

We have a friend that has a dapple mini dach and she wants to breed with ours. I know if we do that, we will end up with another puppy.

Hollywoodhaha -

Does Gretal like the snow? Max hates the rain but we had snow last winter and he went crazy. Absolutely loved it! He cried when we made him come inside.

OMG, yours looks just like ours. Is Marvin a little overweight?

Yes, Marvin is/was alittle overweight. He's epliptic and the phenobarb made him pack on the pounds. The vet seemed very disapproving of his size, so I did as she suggested and took away his full bowl of food all day. He gets one cup of weight mgmt food in the morning. We've done this for maybe 2 years now and he's slimmed down. I know he'd LOVE to eat more, but according to the vet, he doesn't need more. He looks better and can jump up on the bed again.

I am loving these pictures!
