Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

Hi Maleficient59 and family! Were you able to get the excursions you wanted or did you find some were not available already?

Hi,

I booked everything the next day. I didn't stress the Palo dinner reservations as I figured they just didn't have them up (I was on the plane while I was booking and the connection was really slow). The only excursions sold out are the private tours (one or two in various ports except Malta) so if you are planning one of these and can't book yet, I recommend having a back-up plan. Malta is sold out of the Segway Tour. Everything else is still available as of tonight. BTW, I'm not on the cruise ... my family is! :(

Good luck!!

Ah - that makes sense then as there is a Maleficent1959 - I'm guessing that's your family?

Hi!

My daughter asked me sign them up (it's my DD, my DMIL, and aunts) under my user name as she's not one to frequent the boards; you can tell that I don't post a whole lot either. My MIL joined us for several Dis-events in the past (I think the first one was an all-Dis group chartered boat trip to swim with stingrays in Grand Cayman), but she's not on the boards either. We've been doing DisMeets (and occasional FE exchanges) for a decade so DD looks forward to all of it on the cruises. And of course, to meeting others her age!

Actually, just logged in to get an idea of the excursions folks are booking. I've booked mostly private excursions for our group as it's harder for the aunts to walk long distances. With the private tours, there is a ton more flexibility.

Wish I was sailing with you! But there's this little thing called work ... :upsidedow

Best,
Sarah

Ah, I see now - I was seriously confused!

Getting super excited!!! Booked all of our excursions/spa/dining stuff. Plus, the Palo dinner options finally came up and I was able to book it for our anniversary. I wish we didn't have to wait until June!

Also, I was wondering if any one is going to Paris before or after the cruise? We are thinking about going from Barcelona to Paris, but we haven't ironed out any details yet as a train ride might take up too much time which means we may have to fly. We're also looking at Paris hotel options - any recommendations would be great!

You didn't happen to notice exactly which private tours are sold out, did you? We were planning to book them in Athens and Turkey. I'm gold so I can't book until the 2nd.

We are flying BCN to Paris right after the cruise for 4 nights in Paris. I did a LOT of research on trip advisor/booking.com/expedia/cruisecritic, etc for a hotel that would fit four of us (without having the kids in a separate and possibly not connecting room) and in a neighbourhood I wanted to be in (basically limiting it to Arr. 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7) for a not too extravagant price. We went with Hotel Atmospheres in St.Germain de Pres. Le Citizen hotel was a little further out but my first choice, but we couldn't get the larger apartment room for all 4 nights that we were there. If there were only two of us we would have had a lot more selection. Can't wait though - Paris is one of my favourite cities and DH and I get to spend our 12th anniversary there! :)

I will double check for you the only one I did see was the segway in Malta and since my one encounter with a segway was not pleasant we were not interested in that one!:rotfl2:

I just went into the different ports.
Private vehicle tours are sold out for :
Villefrance - up to 3 people
La Soezua - up to 2 people
Rome - all gone with and without guide
Athens - 4 and 8 hour tours

Hope this helps with the planning.

I would expect that they didn't put all of them out at once because they want to allow their other tiered guests a chance to book. But it might be they misjudged the popularity of these.

I would imagine that openings may become available and some may sell out between today and the next tier bookings. It doesn't hurt to check back periodically if your first choice isn't available when you book. Good luck!

Paris is fantastic, I am jealous. But we are going to UK for a week prior to sailing to visit with an old friend and see some sights. Maybe someday I can get DH to visit Paris. Your hotel looks perfect, location is wonderful, especially since you can walk pretty much anywhere. Your kids will love it.
What part of Ontario are you from? DH is from Toronto but has been out west forever.:)

On a previous trip, we spent a few days in Normandy before heading to Barcelona, we found the plane ticket from Paris to Barcelona MUCH cheaper than a train ticket (we had originally planned on the train ride, thought it would be fun but train tickets were $750 each and plane tickets were $150 each).

Oh well . . .

I was tempted by the Rome 9 hour private tour with driver and guide, but it was really pricey, and now, I don't have to worry about it!

A couple of questions, for those who are already checked in/booked excursions:

Do you have to check in first, then book excusions/activities? Or is it the other way around?

I remember there was a bit of a difference, but I can't remember what I have to do first.

And do they both start at midnight, EST on the day the widow opens?

Finally, since this is a 12-night cruise, do they let you do more than one Palo dinner and/or brunch?

Thanks bunches! :wave2:

I have only booked shore excursions. When I went to check-in it was not working :confused3so I thought I could do later and just have not gotten back to it. We are using DCL transportation so the port arrival time does not mean much to us also I think we are in a different group being platimum now but it is our first time so I don't know that one for sure.

No, you do not have to check in first before booking excursions and activities. And yes, check in, excursion booking, and activities bookings all are available for booking at midnight Eastern time on the day you're allowed to start booking (assuming DCL has put them out to book - like they were late in getting Palo dinners out for reservation).

For others who are planning to visit the statue of David in the Uffizi Gallery (like our family), I just found out that the Uffizi Gallery & Accademia Museum are closed on Mondays. Other museums are not.

I am so bummed, because this is the 2nd time that we wanted to see the statue of David and cannot, because the museum is closed.

I guess we will have to plan on Livorno, Lucca, and/or Pisa.
