Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

Welcome to the thread!
Thank you! :rotfl: Wish we did not have to wait over a year, the wait is going to kill me ;)

Here is a barcelona hotel thread on the boards.... might be helpful :thumbsup2http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2870617

Snowing in PA today.... makes me want to cruise now! :woohoo:

Thank you for the thread! I will be checking it shortly.
I know what you mean! Wish we were on the cruise too! :rotfl:

We are thinking of Scotland before this cruise, will see how plans come together.

In Barcelona we found a nice little hotel in the Gothic area. The street it is on was too narrow for the cab.

Scotland sounds great! One of my must stops in the future!

We did Edinburgh for 5 nights prior to our 2011 med cruise. We did 2 day trips out of the city - Stirling Castle and the Highlands. It worked out well. We flew out the morning of the cruise to Barcelona via London City.

Hi All,

Sorry to say we had to cancel this cruise. Air Force changed DS return date to May 2013 instead of July. So now we are looking at NCL. So much cheaper, but I will so miss Disney. We just have to treat it as a moving hotel and not expect all the disney magic!!

Have a great trip!!! I will be reading along though to see what you all are doing in the ports.

We'll miss you! Let us know what you end up booking...

:thumbsup2 Thank You

That is about what we are thinking, will fly to BCN or maybe train. Currently they are about the same price. Will also be looking into air to LHR and open jaw with a return from BCN, will see.

I really like London and would not mind a couple of days there.

We did London before our 2010 cruise, you can never go wrong with London, but I wanted the kids to see something different in 2011

"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
— Samuel Johnson

Do you think that our assigned ports of call to Greece especially Athens will be affected by the riot and buildings ablaze in Athens?

I just read the Associated Press release.

There's about about 16 months before the the cruise so there's about a year for things to hopefully calm down in Athens. Unfortunately, I seem to remember these riots starting a couple of years ago when Greece was at the "initial" stages of economic crisis. All we can do is hope that things get better there. When DCL cancelled Tunis, I think it was about 5 months before the first Med cruise of 2011.

I think we only need to worry in January if things haven't cooled down yet or if it looks like Greece is in some kind of bad pattern of repeating itself year after year.

Yes, that's true! My DD really wants to visit Athens. That's why we booked the cruise this far in advance.

Just a big planner.

My DS is desperate to see Athens as well - hence our cruise booking (well, I might really want to see Greece as well:rolleyes1). Fingers crossed it has all calmed down by then. I think they need resolution on the debt by the end of this month or they default so with any luck it shouldn't be a longterm thing.

On the topic of pre-trip stays, I'm from London so if anyone has any questions ask away. I've never been to Spain so I am very excited about seeing Barcelona. We will be doing a post cruise rather than a pre cruise stay - at the moment the kids miss school if we have anything more than 1 snow day next year. The lack of snow this year has me worried it is going to be a bumper year next year:eek:

A year and a half out, there really isn't any way to know that.

Thanks for offering London advice.

As far as the Greek turmoil, better they protest the austerity measures now than 1 year from now. I think all this will clear up in days, weeks at the most.
This "civil" unrest is a lot different from the Revolution they had in Tunisia which was part of "the Arab Spring". I'd equate the Greek Riots to the US occupy Wall St.

I hope they don't take it away as that is the main reason we chose this one and Turkey. Hopefully, We are not the bad luck charm here with ports:scared1: We were on the 1st MR cruise on the Wonder and they cancelled Mazatlan 2 days before we left. Happy that DCL was thinking of our safety but we had planned on going horseback riding on the beach with a big group of DISers with a private vendor. Luckily, she didn't require a deposit but we were all sad as I am sure she was too. Better sad than in danger, I guess. :sad2: Just blame me if Greece is taken away. :cutie:

We booked this cruise when it opened up to us lowly metalics (silver). I see the price has already gone up $1,000 since we booked. I (Troy) will be traveling with DW Sarah, DD Haley (13) and DD Heather (10). This will be our first European cruise, but our 6th Disney Cruise. We hope some of you who have cruised Europe in the past can give us some pointers. Currently we are looking at coming in a week before the cruise and using a nonDisney timeshare to stay somewhere close to Barcelona. Some of you have commented about seeing the sites in Barcelona. Can you see most of the sites in a day or two, or should we allow more time?

:welcome: It kind of depends how in-depth you want to see things in and around Barcelona. And, I suppose, where you're staying at your timeshare and how difficult (or not) it will be to get into the city. If you look at my siggie below, I've started a pre-trip report that talks about what we did last time and what I want to do differently this time. I haven't gotten to the last day of the previous med cruise; we stayed a day after and did a little sightseeing then as well. I liked 2 days last time, but felt that there was still a great deal left to see. I'm not sure that more on the end would have worked for us, as we were so worn out that it felt like it was time to go home.

We've been to Barcelona 2x pre and post Med cruises in 2007 and 2011. Two days is perfect to see most of the sites, 3 days max.

Ageed, last time we were in Barcelona, we only had a day and it wasn't enough, but I think Two/Three would have done the trick perfectly:thumbsup2

We did the HOHO in Barcelona last time, (no Dis excursions) and I thought it worked out well and likes that we did it on our time. There are other cities that We used Dis excursions and I didn't regret that either. (for instance in Madiera, our tour bus was over an hour late returning to the ship but they had to wait for us cause it was a Dis excursion) ;)

:wizard: Welcome Scubadiver!

Welcome you are going to have an awesome time. DH and I were on the 1st Med Cruise and the 1st Baltic had great times on both. :cheer2:

Welcome to all the new folks! So you don't have to scroll too far back, I thought I'd post the updated Roll Call here - I have the master-list in my Sig line for easy access but will periodically post it here when we've added a lot of new folks. Most importantly, though, is the link to the Google Docs spreadsheet where you can add yourself to the Roll Call spreadsheet.
