Who's Gonna Have More Fun? Two PTR's for the Price of One!

Well good lord I know- when we go out at home with all 5 of us it's between $75-100 with tip for just a chain restaurant- which equals $200 at WDW.
They are so sneaky aren't they?? And we will pay it grinning like a mule eating briars.:scared1:

So true.

:rotfl2:

Oh dear heavens I know you didn't just ask me about my shopping trip yesterday.;)

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Let's just say yes, I got stuff. Which is mostly going back today. On a happy note---stuff that isn't going back---- Belk had shorts and tops on sale for cheap for Belle!! I also got Drew some shorts there on sale.:cool1:

But ask me about what Mark bought me this weekend which WILL be making the trip to WDW.............:rolleyes1 I might show you a pic.......

even though we ARE into dining now......popcorn:::rolleyes1

Well it sounds like you had a good and bad day yesterday. :upsidedow

But yes, do tell about your new gift that will be going to WDW with you!!! :yay:popcorn::

okay--- here it is and I'm in love.

:rotfl2:

It's my Christmas in June present.

Had my eye on it for about 6 months and we got it for 30% off!:goodvibes

It is excited to be making the trip to FL with me. It told me so.

:rotfl2:

Okay I hate to do it but I have to run to take all that stuff back to the store. I'll hopefully be back this afternoon.

Have a great day everyone!:goodvibes

I totally get you about Belle and the 50s place..I have 3 kids like that!! But, Mike loves it so they just laugh at him! LOL...and your right..it's waaay to much food on a hot day...but the desserts are killer!!
Love your bag!!! Yay for you...and for Mark!!! What a doll!!!! I know we are so thankful for our hubbies!! Gifts from the Lord!

And 50's PT--- we've never gone b/c I have always been scared that Belle would be mortified if someone harrassed her over her food. She would end up crying over it and it would be a scene. I know that Drew would love the meatloaf-- it's his fave food. It might be something we check out one day. I can't imagine eating fried chicken in the heat during this trip. I'd end up ill.:lmao: But it does sound really good!!!!!!! It will just have to be on a trip during cooler temps.

That's exactly why we haven't gone there. DS9 would not like that at all. :sad2:
okay--- here it is and I'm in love.

Nice purse and yay for 30% off!! :yay:

Ladies, that's a lot of eatin'!! :lmao: Sounds good though! :thumbsup2

Jo I noticed you have eaten at SAI several times. I am assuming that you liked it???? We went there too even though it has terrible reviews and we really like it a lot. Not sure if we got lucky or we just don't agree with what others think about it. I got some kind of dish with chicken breast and peppers in a cream sauce. It was VERY good!

Shelly, I think it would have been easier for you to list the places you haven't eaten! That's quite a list you have there. I'm curious though if both of you have a favorite? Our favorite is Ohana (dinner). It is a must do on every trip for us. Do you guys have one of those?

I know, I think I just gained 10 lbs just looking at those lists!! :faint: :rotfl:

We went to SAI for the first time in November and we thought it was pretty good. DH and I both had the same chicken meal you had. He loved it, I liked it. We thought the atmosphere was great and the service was fast. We would definitely go back, but not every time.

As for a favorite......that's a tough one! :upsidedow Breakfast, lunch, or dinner? :rotfl:

Our favorite breakfast used to be Crystal Palace, but is now Kona Cafe!

Our favorite dinner used to be Le Cellier, but is now Sci-Fi!

Honorable mentions go to: Big River Grille, T-Rex, and Chef Mickey's. :goodvibes

I'm glad to hear you like Ohana for dinner so well, we just might be giving it a try this time....:rolleyes1

Great list ladies!

For our family, Kona Cafe has been the "have to go" place for us for breakfast at least two or three times a trip. I think it is a great value and the food is always tasty and excellent. My boys always eat every last bite, and are full for at least half the day. LOL! Have you had the specialty flavored coffees there? My wife and son love them. Never been there for lunch or dinner - but would love to try it sometime.

Ohana - Tried to get in the last three trips - no ressies available. :sad1:

Sci-Fi - Another family favorite. Always have had a good experience and food here. I love the Beef & Blue lettuce wedge, boys like the burgers and onion rings. The shakes are good here too. The atmosphere here is rad!

Cosmic Rays - Good place for a quick bite. My son Jeremy likes the show. Figures.

Auntie Gravities - Best smoothies in the parks! Highly recommend this place! Sneak it on the Peoplemover and you will be in heaven.

Casey's Corner - Pretty good hot dogs. Boys like the corn dog nuggets.

Peco's Bill - Just another burger place at Disney. Decent for a quick bite.

Aloha Isle - If you don't have a Pineapple Dole Whip here every time you visit, then you are not a true Disney fanatic.

Electric Umbrella - Good for a quick bite. The meatball sub is decent. It has also become a unofficial meet-up location for us and our friends. LOL!

Rainforest Cafe - I am not a big fan of this place, too many kids running around trying to touch the animatronics and it is always hard to carry a conversation in this place. Too loud. If I go here, go during the non-peak hours. The food is okay. A bit pricey for some items.

Earl of Sandwich - Definitely a good place to get fresh food. Always happy to go here.

McDonald's (just outside of AK) - I go to McD's maybe two or three times a year while at home. At WDW, we go here at least once. This has got to be the most expensive McDonald's in the world -well maybe just as expensive as the one in Maui, even the ones in Germany are cheaper than the ones here in the US. I don't know why we go here, but I guess it is because it is easy, quick and fast and open 24 hours.

50'a Prime Time - Tried this for the first time last month. Had an excellent meal! Gave the waitress a lot of grief and back talk. She loved it. Unfortunately, a floor manager decided to unload a list of complaints on a waiter right next to our table. Totally unprofessional while "on stage". After dinner, I had a 10 minute conversation with restaurant's leads about this floor manager's verbal assault on the waiter in front of the guests. In no way, does this discount the great meal and service from our waitress, but it did put a damper on our evening at the restaurant. Would definitely go back here again, and bring unassuming friends. LOL!

Whispering Canyon - Another fun place to visit and bring unassuming guests. The food was good and tasty. The waiter was very helpful and accommodating with our friend who had a shellfish allergy. Even the chef came out and spoke to her at length how her selection would be prepared. Class act. The hotel where it is located is amazing!

La Catina de San Angel - Another first time here last month - Let me preface this, we are Mexican food snobs. We eat, make and go out for Mexican food two or three times a week and it is big part of our culture here in SoCal. The spicier, the hotter, the burning, the better! So, be that as it may, we were not expecting too much from here. We weren't that hungry so we got the nachos and the guacamole. The guacamole was made fresh, but it wasn't spicy, just mild, so we added some pico de gallo to heat it up. Much better. The nachos were pretty good, I wish they would have used strip steak rather than ground beef, added more pico de gallo to it also. It was a big enough snack to take care of our hunger panes until the next meal. I would give this a 7.5 out of 10.

Yachtsman Steakhouse - Aged meat, cut to order, grilled to perfection, nice amenities, beautiful dinning area and excellent service. First time here again. Met up with our Orlando friends to celebrate my wife's birthday here. One of the best meals on property, in my opinion. Our friends told the waiter we were in no hurry to eat and run - so we were able to enjoy our dinner together without feeling rushed. (A good idea to remember!) Highly recommend this place!

California Grill - Date night dinner with my wife here. Excellent food and presentation. Too bad they allow kids under 12 here. The atmosphere is and views are stunning. Plus MK fireworks from the outdoor viewing area was very romantic and spectacular.

Ok - I am sure I am missing some other places, but there are my thoughts!

Sea :cool1:

Wow Sea, great list! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.

Jodi and I are in the middle of typing up our thoughts/experiences at each place on our lists. :goodvibes

I agree with you on Kona - it's awesome and priced just right. I don't drink coffee, but DH gets coffee there and loves it. Just regular though. I think.

Never been to Auntie Gravities. Thanks for the tip. I might have to try and get in there this time! My boys love Casey's corndog nuggets too! :thumbsup2

Okay, well we are just back from a trip to the doctor. :sad2: DS12 has had a nagging cough, but no other real symptoms so I put off taking him in. Well, he has bronchitis. Good grief, how do you get bronchitis in June?

So he is on meds and an inhalant.

While we were waiting on the prescriptions we went next door to the Dollar Store and got some rain ponchos for the trip!

Man, I'm jonesing for some Disney food now!!! Is it too early to start making ADRs for October 2012???

Great lists and info Sea!

Shelly - sorry about your DS! Just get him all better by the end of summer!

Jo - CUTE bag!!!

I have to stay away from this PTR. It's making me want to go shopping! And eat!

Wow, I missed a lot of food talk! :faint: My poor little list would look sad next to y'all's. I believe the only TS places we have tried are San Angel Inn, Le Cellier, Teppan Edo, and Crystal Palace. (I know, it's a sorry list!) I don't remember all the CS places we've been, but the ones we liked were WPE, Tangierine Cafe, Yorkshire County Fish Shop, and Liberty Inn. It seems the only places I can remember are in Epcot. :confused3 I have to agree with Jo about the food at Disney. I've just never found anything incredibly memorable, at least of the few places we've been. We really never have dining experiences on any vacation that are as good as we have at home. By "home" I mean my city and area, not my actual home! Let me brag about the one and only thing that Louisiana tops the list in - food!! ;) So we never look at Disney or any other vacation spot as dining adventures. Having said that, there are places that I would like to try next time. Definitely Kona Cafe, because it seems to get rave reviews for breakfast. Boma would be another, because I tend to like ethnic food. And possibly Ohana, because it seems like a fun place.

Jo, I love your new D&B bag! What a nice hubby!

Shelly, sorry that your DS has bronchitis. That does sound like an odd thing to have in the summer. Can he do what he wants as long as he feels OK, or is he stuck inside?

Hope you don't need those ponchos you bought......or maybe a little rain would be a welcome every now and then!

I talked to DH the other day, and told him the next time we go to the World we're going to be trying ALL new places. He immediately said "I still get my Fish & Chips, don't I?" :confused3
I shouldn't complain. Since I'm the picky eater in the family, that's the only request he makes on our trips food-wise. Otherwise, he pretty much let's me pick everything. It's just so frustrating, because there is nothing for me to eat in that area, so normally we have to sit down while he eats his Fish & Chips, then go find me something, and at that point I'm starting to get really hungry, and when I'm hungry, I'm CRANKY!

We even tried the Rose & Crown the last time. I didn't particularly like it, and the Fish & Chips are the same as outside, but more expensive inside.

He'll probably wear me down and get his Fish & Chips, I'll just have to try to stop somewhere else to pick up food for myself first this time. I'm planning on trying the Lotus Blossom Cafe (which of course is all the way on the other side of the WS)

Wow, I missed a lot of food talk! :faint: My poor little list would look sad next to y'all's.

Same here! All we've tried is: Ohana (breakfast), Crystal Palace (Dinner), Tokyo Dining, Tutto Italia, Planet Hollywood and Narcoossee's. All were good. We'll be trying a few new ones this August, but not many as we have the Quick-Service Free DP.

Jo and Shelly -

You both have some pretty impressive dining lists there.

Jo - love the new D&B and you did good at 30% off :thumbsup2

Shelly - so sorry to hear about DS(9) having bronchtis, I hope he recovers quickly. My oldest DS has been getting it every year since he was little and he is now 41 and still gets it , if I recall correctly it seems to me he has had it at odd times of the year too.

Yeah for ponchos ! If memory serves me right I seem to recall daily showers in August.

Shelly, I recently found ponchos and the spray on kind of sunscreen at our dollar store too! I was so excited! That is a great deal on the sunscreen! I bought 3 cans thinking that was enough and we have already used it all. Of course when I went back, it was sold out! :sad2: I hope they get some back in. It was Hawaiian Tropic too for just $1!

Hope your DS is feeling better. At least he got sick now and not during the trip.

Good morning everyone!!:goodvibes This week is really flying by. Wow.

::yes:: I have to be really careful with Mark-- His love language is "gifts"-- if I so much as grunt that I want something- he's off running to the store to get it. Last night it was ice cream.:lmao: He came home with 4 half gallons, hot fudge AND butterscotch. :rotfl2: Yes-- Blessed for sure.
That's exactly why we haven't gone there. DS9 would not like that at all. :sad2:

Nice purse and yay for 30% off!! :yay:

I figured that was the reason you guys had never been there too-- I think it would be torture for those two.
Ladies, that's a lot of eatin'!! :lmao: Sounds good though! :thumbsup2

Jo I noticed you have eaten at SAI several times. I am assuming that you liked it???? We went there too even though it has terrible reviews and we really like it a lot. That is a lot of eating!!:lmao:
SAI-- we go b/c it's just a tradition. We have gone every time and it's just something we do.:confused3 For a while, before the refurb, it wasn't very good-- it had gotten pretty bad. But since then, it has gotten so much better!! I actually really like it now and look forward to it.
My SIL and her DH took some friends of theirs who are actually from Mexico City to it--- and they said it was awesome and a lot more authentic than a lot of places you find in the states. That could be why some people don't like it. :confused3

Great list ladies!

Gotta love those dingbat moments :lmao:

Well your list is just as nice! You have hit a lot of the good places that people love. ::yes::
It is awful, isn't it, to be from a place known for it's food? :rotfl2: You never appreciate other places you visit.
There are some good places at WDW--- I still haven't gone to V&A-- we would love to go one time-- just not THIS time.

I talked to DH the other day, and told him the next time we go to the World we're going to be trying ALL new places. He immediately said "I still get my Fish & Chips, don't I?" :confused3

You have a good list as well! you will just have to add onto it when you go back!:goodvibes Our lists are from years and years of traveling there-- is it bad that we've been so many times? When is it considered an addiction from which you need intervention???:rotfl:
Jo and Shelly -

You both have some pretty impressive dining lists there.

Jo - love the new D&B and you did good at 30% off :thumbsup2

Yeah for ponchos ! If memory serves me right I seem to recall daily showers in August.
Thanks Sheila! I was hoping to get an extra % off -- and the lady who works there that has helped Mark and me numerous times-- she whispered that if we opened up a cc with them (B/c she was shocked we didn't already have one b/c we have as she put it "a history"....) that on Wed (TODAY!) the cc holders would be getting an extra 30% off and she would hold it in the back for me to come pick up. :faint: Mark said um, no thanks-- we'll just pay the extra. I think he was afraid to let me in on any more deals!:lmao: She said okay well you know where I am if you change your mind.:rotfl2:
Shelly, I recently found ponchos and the spray on kind of sunscreen at our dollar store too! I was so excited! That is a great deal on the sunscreen! Wow what a good deal on sunscreen! We go thru that stuff so fast-- like a can every time we go to the pool. I am on my way to get the Target brand this morning-- it's right at $9 for 2 bottles. I'm going to go stock up.

I carried my cheapo ponchos with us for years then you know what I did? One of our trips we spent a day at US guess who left the ponchos back at Disney...........guess who got caught in a torrential downpour...........guess who had to buy the expensive ponchos at US :rotfl:

Gotta love those dingbat moments :lmao:

:rotfl2:

Honey my whole life is a dingbat moment. :rotfl:
That is SO what I would do. And Mark would probably say-- But I thought you had some already??? As he is forking over the $$$$$$$$$$$$ for new ones.

:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Well, so let's really get down to the business of eating at Disney World!!

Shelly and I obviously have different posting styles--- my reviews of restaurants and my past experiences will be focused on what we ate with no pictures. Mark cannot understand why someone would want to take a picture of what you are getting ready to devour, so I've never taken any.
You'll just have to read a lot to understand what I'm trying to say, because I posted descriptions of what we've ordered before from Allears.:goodvibes
Sorry in advance.:)

Shelly will make hers pretty with pics. Of course.:goodvibes

Hopefully they will combine to entertain you guys!:thumbsup2

Here we go! First stop--- the Magic Kingdom!

------------------------------------------------------

For supper, they have the Feast-

Declaration Salad - Tossed Mixed Greens, served with our special Tavern Strawberry Vinaigrette Dressing

Thoughts:
We have eaten here a lot. Sometimes for lunch, sometimes for dinner. We have always had great experience. I know that a lot of people don’t care for it since it can sort of taste like frozen meals, but the first time we ate here was on one of the first trips we took as a family and I hadn’t done much research.
We sort of stumbled upon it after being in the parks for a week eating a lot of fast food. To us, LTT was comfort food, and it was a much needed break from the hamburgers and fries we’d been eating.
Also, with Belle having eating issues, we have in the past had the chef make her something special. (Scrambled eggs!) He even came out to make sure he got the order correct and asked if we wanted anything on the plate with it. So with that said, it gets 4 out of 5 stars from us!

Plaza Restaurant:

We have ordered in the past:

Chicken Strawberry Salad - fresh garden greens, grilled chicken breast, fresh strawberries, gorgonzola cheese, tossed in a white zinfandel vinaigrette dressing $14.99 (While this is a very good salad, I do not think it is worth $15 for it if you are paying OOP for it.)

Grilled Chicken Sandwich - grilled chicken breast topped with shaved ham and Swiss cheese served on a flour-dusted Kaiser $12.49 (Just an ordinary sandwich, I don’t think it’s anything special.)

Plaza Club - smoked ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise layered on toasted multi-grain bread $11.49. (The kids shared this and enjoyed it.)

Thoughts:
While we think this is a nice enough little restaurant, it has never been a must do for us. It is an okay place to have lunch and rest, although there are cheaper alternatives (ie: CS restaurants) in the MK that I feel fit the bill for that if it is important to you. Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5.

Columbia Harbor House :

We have ordered in the past:

Anchors Aweigh Sandwich - white tuna with lettuce and tomato on toasted multigrain bun $8.29 (Mark’s favorite)

Garden Harvest Salad - mixed greens, chicken, garden vegetables, cheese and sunflower seeds $8.19 (What I order)

Chicken Breast Nuggets - Served with French Fries or Apple Slices $7.89 (This is what the kids get usually)

New England Clam Chowder $4.49 (Mark)

Thoughts:
This is our favorite CS in the MK. We love to order and go upstairs to a quieter spot to get away from the noise of the park. The salad they used to have before the Garden Harvest Salad was my favorite of all; I haven’t been too pleased with the Garden Harvest Salad. Last time we went it was actually pretty nasty. But Mark thinks the tuna sandwich is really good so we always go. We give it 4 stars out of 5- simply b/c it is a great resting spot and I hold out hope that the salad there will be better next time.

Pecos Bills :

We have ordered in the past:

BBQ Pork Sandwich - served with fries or apple slices $8.69 (an okay sandwich)

Caesar Salad with Chicken - served with lettuce, chicken and parmesan $7.79 (what can I say, I’m a salad girl. )

1/3-Pound Cheeseburger - served with your choice of fries or apple slices $8.09 (A burger’s a burger as far as I’m concerned ;) )

Chicken Wrap - served with your choice of fries or apple slices $8.59 (Not my favorite, but is an okay choice as long as it isn’t soggy. Blech.)

Thoughts:
An okay restaurant although extremely busy at times. It’s often crowded and hard to find a table in the dining area. Lines to place your order can be long. But if you want a burger, this is your spot- the fixin’s bar is really great for those that like that sort of thing. (Of which I am not a fan. ) Rating: 3 stars out of 5.

Cosmic Ray’s :

We have ordered in the past:

1/2 Rotisserie Chicken - with Mashed Potatoes and a seasonal vegetable $9.69 ( I really like this- it’s very filling.)

Grilled Chicken Sandwich - served with apple slice or french fries $8.59 (your average chicken sandwich.)

Chicken Breast Nuggets (8 pieces) - served with apple slice or french fries $7.89 (Good for kids)

BBQ Pork Sandwich $8.89 (Like the one at Pecos Bills)

1/3 lb. Angus Bacon Cheeseburger $8.79 (Again, a burger’s a burger to me, but you do have a toppings bar here as well.)

Greek Salad $6.89 (good for when you want something on the lighter side)

Thoughts:
This is probably my second choice in the lineup of CS options. What I like about it most is the Rotisserie chicken. What I don’t like about it is that if you have a big family who all want something different, you have to stand in different lines. Kind of hard with kids. Also the dining area can be congested and hard to find tables at times. Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5.

Main Street Bakery:

We have ordered in the past:

Muffin $2.59 ; Crumb Cake $3.29 ; Warm Cinammon Roll $3.49 and fruit and bread pudding (which wasn’t very good last time ).

Cappuccino or Latte $3.39
Espresso $2.69
Coffee $2.09

Thoughts:
This is a good place to grab a snack or light breakfast on the go. We always get some coffee first thing in the morning if we aren’t running for a ride or two or three. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

Final thoughts--

We also visit various stands throughout each visit, ordering popcorn and fries and turkey legs (Mark eats them when he is on a protein low… Personally, I think they’re sort of a “King Henry the VIII, I am” throwback and not very ladylike to be seen chowing down on;) ) and of course Dole Whip and Dole Whip Floats. They all are great so they didn’t make the review.

I mean, honestly, what could be found wrong with Pineapple Heaven in a cup??? :cloud9:
