My hubby :earsboy:,my daughter princess:, my son pirate:, and I :earsgirl: will be there for our very first stay at AKL. We can't wait
to experience this awesome resort. I have heard so many wonderful things from all of you about this resort. See You There!!! :moped:

Not sure if it's the same week you are talking about, but we will be at AKL from 6/4-6/11-05. We have stayed at AKL 5 times in the past...it is hands down our favorite resort, so if you have any questions I'll try to answer them.

But for starters:

AKL doesn't really have a food court like the moderates have. It has a short order type grill with several cooked to order items including breakfast items and pizza, chicken dishes and a few others. There are also some convenience foods, mostly deli and bakery items, that are pre-packaged, some other breakfast cerials and milk. This food service location is Mara's.

There are two sit down restaurants: Jiko which is very formal and serves dinner only, and Boma which is a buffet serving breakfast and dinner only. Both serve African dishes. Boma has great deserts including everybody's favorite: Zebra Domes. Zebra Domes are also available in a desert package at Mara's. Boma is also kid friendly. There is also the Victoria Falls lounge (bar).

The AKL pool is arguably the most attractive on propery and is marginally the largest. The deepest point is 4-1/2 feet and has a zero entry and a water slide. There is a poolside bar. There are complimentary life jackets for kids and towels available poolside. There is a fitness center and arcade for the kids. There is a todler pool, two hottubs and a playground by the pool. You can see one of the savannahs from one end of the pool area.

The lobby of the hotel is spectacular. The theming is carried out throughout the entire hotel. There are also fridges in each of the rooms. Some rooms have bunk beds.

If there is anything else you want to know, just ask.

Oh, I'm sorry we will be there June 5th-10th. Do you need reservations for the Boma restaurant? We will be arriving that Sunday afternoon. I wonder if we should eat there the very first night? I have no clue what type of food that they serve here. By far my children are not picky eaters they'll eat just about anything, but me on the other hand is a different story.

Just reading your posts and thought I would jump in here. We also have stayed at AKL and LOVED it!! It will really spoil you for staying other places. We very much enjoyed the buffet at Boma. Lots of very good food. Opportunity to try some unfamiliar dishes along with lots you're sure to enjoy. When we were there, we happened to ask if they had prime rib (it wasn't visible out on the serving area) and sure enough they did. It was excellent. Almost had to ask for bell service to bring a luggage cart to get us back to our rooms! If you care for wine, they also have some nice South African wines. We feel this resort has a very special feel to it. It even smells great! We are supposed to be there week of 13th. This is our second try for a vacation this year. It's been a tough year with school, work and unfortunately I had to have surgery :sad2: . Boy do we need this trip! We were so hoping for a discount code, but guess that's not going to happen. Say a prayer for us to get to go!! :wave2:

PS would not be a bad idea. In October we just walked in, but in June a PS would probably be a good idea. Good thing about a PS is there is no commitment. If you change your mind, no problem or penalty.

Hey CrazyAboutMickey,

Why don't you call 407-WDISNEY and ask a CM if you have a pin code
next to your name. We were originally staying at the POFQ at the regular
rack rate for 149.00. I found the Disboard and started reading about the pin
codes some were receiving by calling Disney. I tried for 3 days No Luck!
But on my fourth day I had a pin code. So I switched to the AKL
for 124.00 not including tax for a parking lot view. So it really doesn't
hurt to ask. So give it a try. :wave2:

I guess I need to do that. I did ask when we made our ressie but no luck. It is so strange to me that one day you don't have one and the next you do!!?? I hate to call every day but if it works that way, I guess it's well worth the trouble!

CrazyAboutMickey

I just now realized by your post that your a Texan also. :cool1:

Yes! By the way, I did call again after last post....still no code for me. I'm not giving up though. I'm going to call until they all recognize my voice!

WAaaaaaaaa.....I just changed my ressies from AKL to ASMu to try to save money. :sad2: But now I want to go back. :earseek: I think I'll call tomorrow and change back. :goodvibes I hope they'll let me. Who needs the extra 700 dollars I would have saved anyway? :crazy2: we'll be there june 7-14th. :cool1:

Yea ;)
