Whos familiar with Hilton Head Island?

I'm new to this board, and actually not looking to stay at DVC there, but I thought some of you may have some input for me. We're looking to stay at a hotel in HHI next year 2006 Memorial Day weekend. Needs to be kid friendly, nice resort, prefer to be on the ocean. Is anyone familiar with the area and has any recommendations? Thanks!

I am very familiar with Hilton Head--but have always stayed in condo's versus hotels. I know there is a Hilton on the ocean in Palmetto Dunes. If you want a condo--so you will have a kitchen--we have rented through the vacation company (www.vacationcompany.com) twice now. We just returned in fact from a week spent in Sea Pines at South Beach in a 1 bedroom condo on the Calibogue Sound/ocean. Hilton Head has great restaurants & really is a great family place to vacation. Have fun.

The Marriott at Palmetto Dunes is really nice with a huge oceanfront pool and live entertainment in the afternoon. It's right in the middle of the resort.
