Who's coming to DL for the Half Marathon Labor Day Weekend - Updated with Meets!

MJ,

Just past the start of the race has a slight downhill then incline going to Katella Ave. You won't notice, because of all the people, and getting caught up in all the excitement.

One overpass around mile 3 1/2, Ball Road heading over I-5 freeway to Harbor Blvd.

One downhill out in the industrial area near the railroad tracks, and then back up. About mile 5 1/2.

Downhill just after the Santa Ana trail going to Angels Stadium parking lot. Mile 8 3/4.

Down right field entrace onto the stadium floor, at 9 3/4, and a short ramp up exiting left field, which is mile 10.

That's it. :thumbsup2

Getting curious here...IF I consider the 5K - what do I need to know? I was on the website & didn't see much...what kind of pace do you have to be capable of? I saw kid races for up to 8 years old - does that mean they can't do the 5K? I figure if they can manage a full "rope drop to end of Wishes" day at MK they could probably manage right? Am I crazy?

Thanks!

We are thinking that Daniel (8) could do it - he does more at the school walk-a-ton. However, whether he will do it is another question. I am trying to convince the family that it would be fun.

Hello aGoofyMom, on the website it says all ages are welcome for the 5k and you need to be able to maintain a 15 minute per mile pace. Which is a pretty quick walk. If you want to feel the pace, get on a treadmill and set it to 4.0 mph. If I go to DL in September, I want to do the 5k with my girls (8 and 11). They've done a 5k before (2 years ago), and they will need to get in shape for it. If they keep the same course as last year, the race will go through both parks. I think that will be a great incentive for my girls to get in shape, and the course will keep them interested enough to manage the distance. So I don't think you're crazy at all.

Thanks!!! This is exactly the information I needed. I will be the deciding factor so I guess I will be on the treadmill later today. If I can manage the pace, the only thing left is if I can extend my stay without breaking the bank!

Hey GoofyMom, I just realized we're neighbors - across the border... I think we exchanged messages before about African Lion Safari.

:wave2:
We have! I am right down the road from the African Lion Safari. I probably didn't tell you I have actually been to Rochester NY once. DH had to attend a meeting there a few years back. I was trying to find clothes for a Cuban vacation so he dropped me and a friend at a mall for the day. Even with declaring my purchases and paying the duty and taxes at the border I saved a bundle!

Maybe we will meet in California!

hey guys! have we heard any info about packages with the DIS?

my family has decided were going to make this a big weekend together with all my aunts and uncles. Im going to do the planning and decide what would be the best place to stay, but i was waiting to hear if there will be any packages from pete. Any clue?

Were also going to register soon to be sure we have a spot. thats what everyone else is doing right?

With all of the other announcements being made recently, like the ABD next June, Podcast Cruise 2.0, etc. I don't remember hearing any updates about this event. Is the Podcast crew still planning on coming out to CA for Labor Day? Did I completely miss it on the latest show (It wouldn't be the first time!)? :upsidedow

Thanks! :goodvibes

It seems that Pete and Walter will be on walk-about with ABD during that weekend. I have also wondered, given that, if the Sept. meet will still be on in any form.

I didn't realize that the AU adventure would be over Labor Day weekend. Knowing how much that trip means to Pete I suppose I can't be too upset. LOL :thumbsup2

Well, Pete's FaceBook status said 9/5, so I am assuming that is this Labor Day and not next. Agreed, how can we find fault when the man is doing the happy dance? :cool1:

Ahhh, I never saw the status update on FB that had the date. Thanks, Danee! :goodvibes

I'm so excited for him!! Doing a little happy dance for him myself, over here! :woohoo::yay::cool1:

what is pete doing? I havent finished the latest show yet, so maybe im missing something?

Hi, slight correction, we are the same, but we have two Dis board names:
Smith2615 & Sharon Seattle - Craig (cheering) and Sharon (running Half) (DVC)

Hey Guys!

Sharon - I'll make that correction. Didn't realize your husband had a screen name!

I would say to still hang on for packages. I will try to organize something somehow for all of us since we are coming. I still need to meet with Pete to see what is happening. Hopefully I'll have some kind of news when he comes out here in June.

No matter what, I'm still going to be recording some show segments, so we'll plan on making you guys a part of it! :thumbsup2

I would definitely say to register for the race and get your spot in it. We can get things organized from there.

Hang tight peeps. I'm in a bit of the same situation you are!
