Whooping Cough!

We have it at our school too. Scary isn't it!? Hope your family gets healthy quickly!!!

Pertussis is going around here too.:scared:

Scary thing is my 17yodd is not vaccinated for it. She had an allergic reaction as a baby so does not get that part of the shot.

So right there with you WDWBarb. She had to get a tetnaus shot recently which includes the P, interestingly.

We discussed her getting the P, but you know they don't want to do it.

I hope your DD feels better soon
DD19 had a horrible cough which we thought was whooping cough a couple years ago. It lasted for a long time and I took her to the dr's several times because of it. She would cough so hard she couldn't breath and she would often times throw up from the intense coughing fits. She also cracked a rib from coughing so hard :sad2:

The Dr tested her for pertussis. It took over two weeks to get the test results back which came back negative :confused3 I don't know what exactly she had but it was bad.

It's going around here too. We got the offical letter from the school that there have been a few cases reported in the school.

That's so scary! I'll keep your daughter in my thoughts.

My DS got chicken pox, so that was the first time I learned that vaccinations don't completely prevent an outbreak of something.

DD8 had Croup last week (which I thought she was too old for) and then her cough changed this week and yesterday I realized she was having severe coughing episodes and making a horrible whooping sound. I called the ped. and said that I must be crazy 'cause she is up to date on her vaccinations.

They got us in this morning and she has Whooping Cough! I had no idea they could get it when they have been immunized. Dr said that since she had the booster 3 years ago that is probably why she only has a mild case and isn't in the hospital.

And DH is sick with cold symptoms so I am really worried she may have given it to him and that DD13 and I may be at risk. I made DH go to the dr and they did give him an antibiotic just in case.

And of course DD8 has been at school so I am sure she has already passsed this on. I feel awful about that. I guess it is highly contageous. Of course she mostly likely got it from someone there. Dr said to keep her home today so the antibiotic can start working but to send her back to school tomorrow and the school was fine with that.

Whooping cough has been going around in the local schools for several months now (I'm in central Kentucky).

Great. I hadn't heard this. I'm in Lexington.
I haven't heard Fayette County mentioned - I'm in Elizabethtown, and have heard of cases in Bullitt County, and I heard last week maybe cases in Bardstown? I've also heard of cases in the Indiana suburbs of Lousiville.

I'm in Bowling Green, none here, but I have a friend who had it earlier this year in Owensboro. They had an outbreak that wasn't very well publiziced.

Scrappy, I hope she's feeling better soon. Poor kid.

Yep, we've got an outbreak of it going here in SW Michigan too. My 9-year-old son and wife just got done with precautionary antibiotics. One of my son's hockey teammates and his twin sister tested positive for it about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Not sure if they were immunized, the parents aren't saying if they were or weren't and at this point it doesn't really matter.
