Who would you save?

On the Daily Buzz today, the water cooler topic was a strange one. If your SO and your kids were drowning, who would you save if you only had time to save one or the other? Without a doubt, I'd go for my kids. The girl (what's her name) was saying she think everyone would say they'd save their kids because it sounds right but she'd save her DH. One of my phobias is my car losing control and going into the water. DH thinks I am crazy because I have a mental plan in place for us to unstrap the kids out of their carseats and get them out. Mind you, I can't even swim!

Anyway, WWYD?

Youngest DS first, since he's an infant and obviously can't swim, then older DS, since he's a weaker swimmer than DW. DW can swim.

I have to drive by a pond on both sides of the road to get to my house. I am VERY paranoid in winter when the roads are icy when I hit that section!

I'm like you - I can't swim; so my teenagers and DH would have to rescue ME!

DH was a competitive swimmer, so no worries there - we all can swim, but I tend to panic, so I would probably be the one needing to be rescued.

The kids, of course. And I would hope my husband would do the same. If I was in trouble with my kids and someone chose to save me instead of them, I would KILL them! I am pretty sure my husband would feel the same way.

On the flip side though, if you save your SO first then the BOTH of you can go for the kids! That's my DH's story anyway.

DH would choose me, but then I'd have to kill him and they'd all be gone.

I had a friend who said she'd actually choose her DH first, but she didn't have kids yet, so maybe that colored her thinking. She was trying very hard to have a baby, so I was surprised that was her answer.

This can go so many ways. If a family of five is strapped in, and the kids are too young to get out themselves, I would free my wife who I would hope could help free the three kids. Tougher choice if there is only the wife and one kid, but I would go with the kid.

The kids of course. DH can take care of himself- he's a good swimmer. And I'd kill him if he try and rescue me before our kids. But I know he'd go for the kids first too.

Exactly the same. Dh is an adult and would have a better chance out of all them.
