we stayed at hgvc in may and are going back in november but since i won thru skyauction and hgvc was no longer open to them (booked) i got my second picked, silver lake, looks good but hgvc was AWESOME and i want to know how they compare or just more details on silver lake

We stayed at Silver Lake last year in a 2BR condo. It was very nice, and the activities on site were also nice. It has a large pool area, and is right next to the back entrance to Disney. You can be at a park very quickly.
The only bad thing was that they had a mandatory fee and wanted you to sit through their timeshare spiel. They gave us 2 tickets to SeaWorld since we sat through the program, but the fee was $25, I think, so the tickets weren't exactly free. If you don't sit for the program, you lose the $25.
Other than that, it was a nice experience.

We absolutely lovvvvvved Silver Lakes. AJKMom may have had a different arrangement (we went as RCI members) but the 25-dollar fee/time share presentation was optional for us. We just said no thanks at check-in (when they ask you in person)...and then ignored the pamphlets that were left on our door for the first 3 nights or so!
The pool is tremendous....3 or 4 large pools connected. They have a neat cabana/snack bar at poolside where you can get everything from chicken and burgers and salad and chili to tropical drinks (alcoholic and virgin). They also put out a pretty decent breakfast buffet for something like 6 bucks.
They have a movie rental vending machine....3 or 4 bucks for a movie, or...like we did...something like 18 dollars for unlimited movie rentals for your entire week.
They had an exercise room/billiard tables/pinball, etc which we didn't use.
We had a 2-bedroom villa and could not have been happier. It was clean, large and modern...more than enough for me, wife and three kids. We were in the "100 section"...3-story units (try to get top floor if you can...cathedral ceiling...makes room look even larger!!). Right at poolside is the "newer" section...my guess is around 7 or 8 stories tall. We didn't go inside...but others we met said even though the taller section was newer, they preferred the older section (3-story units). But, I'm told that you can go to the top of the new building and go to some public balconies to oversee Animal Kingdom and, at night, Disney fireworks.
As AJKMom said, location was tremendous....south end of Disney....a 4 or 5-minute ride puts you on "Disney Highway" as I call it...the main road on Diz property that leads you to all the parks.
I don't even know what hgvc is, so I won't try to compare...maybe your first place was much better....but all I can tell you is all 5 members of our family loved silver lakes and that's where we're headed next spring!!!
Have fun...feel free to reply or send me a private message!

My DH and I own a 2 bedroom villa at Silver Lake and we love it!! The location is great and the resort itself is gorgeous! We are counting the days until we go back in December!

We have traded for Silver Lake and will be going in November 2002. We received a call a few weeks ago that they are doing some construction, but assured us it would not effect our trip. Does anyone know anything about this?

Lisa

Silver Lake is just building an additional unit, it is just across from a couple units, it is out of the way and is not a problem.

I too was informed of building work being carried out by my
exchange company RCI,they said work would be ongoing until
the end of 2002 so I emailed Silver Lake who told me that they
were saying the end of the year to be on the safe side but were
hoping work would be completed around the end of September
but that the work would not affect any amenities on site.

Hopefully this work will be completed when they say as I too am travelling there from the UK in November 2002.

Hope this helps.

Sean, we'll be there Thanksgiving week this November - maybe we'll see you then!

Lisa

Sorry Lisa,

We are leaving on the Sunday before Thanksgiving so unfortunately will miss what I believe is a lovely time of year but hopefully one year will get to do either Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Hope you have a great time!

Sean.
