Who wants to be a Mouseketeer?

Has anyone played the game "Who wants to be a Mouseketeer?" on board the ship and what type of questions do they ask you? How are contestants picked to play? How many rounds are played during the 7 day cruises?

Well the computer picks a seat number.....

It depends on how well the person does as to the amount of people playing....

and they are all Disney questions....

And it was a lot of fun to Watch Viking of these boards Win a Free Cruise.......

Also people from the audiance Get picked for one of the life lines Ask the Panel...

When you say Disney questions does that mean anything Disney, movies, themeparks, etc. because I never knew that "Firebirds" was a Disney film. I want to study up a bit just in case I happen to be picked, and I'd love to have some idea of what kind of trivia to brush up on.

I got picked at random to play during our first cruise. All I kept thinking was "I can't slur my speech, I can't slur my speech" (we had just come from St. Thomas sailaway and 2 for 1 margaritas!) I don't know if a computer picks your questions at random, or how it's done. I won $80 onboard credit, and they were all easy questions. But then I got a really hard question. I was sailing with 5 other adults, and none of them knew the answer either...incidentally, one of them also got picked to be on the panel...what are the odds! I don't know if they gave me a hard question b/c I answered all the others so quickly, or if it was just luck of the draw. Anyway, I was extremely happy with the $80 credit! And I got a pin to boot! My pin trading husband was extremely happy with that! Our friend who got picked to be on the panel gave us her panelist pin, so now we have a matched pair framed with all of our other disney pins (all 8 shadow box frames).

Scream as loud as you can and jump up and down when they are picking panelists. It is not the same as being in the hot seat, but it was a lot of fun and you get a really cool DCL trading pin exclusive only to panelists..

Some very good Disney trivia books to study with are the Ultimate Disney Trivia Books Volumes I, II, III & IV. They were written by Dave Smith - head of the Disney archives and Kevin Neary one of the Disney Store's Trivia Competition National champions. Each volume has 999 questions relating to everything Disney.

We have sailed DCL many times and I know some of the questions at WWTBM are from those books.

The game show is only played one night on the cruise....once for the early seating and once for the late seating. They go through as many hot seats occupants as time allows...all depends on how far each contestant gets. The whole shows lasts just over an hour or so.

Each volume is a different color, red, blue, yellow and green. Here is a link to Volume 4.

On 8/16 cruise we spread out so you have a better chance of being picked. DS decided he wanted to change seats with me and he was picked. We both went up and made it up to $125 in onboard credit. We blew it on the next question which was where was the movie Grey Friar's Bobby set? It was really fun and he got a Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer pin.

I read this hint here on how to get picked here on this board before we sailed and it worked for us:

They pick the contestants by randomly picking a row, and then randomly picking a seat number. If no one is in that seat, then they go down the row to the right, till they hit the first occupied seat. If noone is in the row all the way to the right, then they go back to the left till they hit an occupied seat.

Sooo, to get the best chance of being picked, wait to sit down until right before the show starts and pick seats in a row with very few people.

My husband doesn't like being the center of attention, so I didn't tell him anything about this. I just dilly dallied in the store until right before show time, and walked in and picked a row in the back, there were only a few people at the very far end of the row to the left, and no one to the right at all. We sat down.

The second contestant was being picked and the row came up toward the very end of the alphabet, Y or something. Here came the CM and ran right up to our row. Then they number came up, and no one was in it, so it went down to my HUSBAND! He was not thrilled, but with all those people staring at him, what could he do! He went up there with my then 9 year old step-son. They won the $80 shipboard credit! It was alot of fun! Too bad I forgot my camera that night!

Yes, that's how I got on the panel. I really really wanted a panel pin.

While I was up there, all I could think was, "Why did I drink so many Bloody Mary's today? I hope I remember this experience!" Yes, I had one too many

Greyfriar's Bobby was set in Scotland....a very cute story about a faithful Skye terrier named bobby who would sleep on his master grave for years after his master's death. A statue is erected to Bobby in Edinburough. (sp)

We were there over a year ago, they put a letter row and a seat number on a screen next to the stage, randomly chosen I believe. Then a CM runs up the isle to the row that is chosen. The seats are numbered as you face the stage from left to right. So they then look at the seat number that is called. If no one is in that seat, they then go to the right in that row until they come to an occupied seat. I hope that explains it better, sorry if I wasn't clear.

Let me tell you of my Mouseketeer story,,

Jan of 2003 we were on the Magic, my adult daughter was picked.

May of 2003 hubby and I went on the Wonder and I was picked.

Now the kicker, I am handicapped (power chair) and so I was in row Z, (the very very back) and BOTH times the exact same seat number was called. Of course they had me stay in my chair to answer (boy did I feel stupid sitting that far away from the stage, they had a spotlight fixed on me!!)

My daughter and I both won $125 in cruise credit!!

Everywhere on board people talked to me about being on Mouseketeer.

June we sail on the Magic again, look for me in Row Z!!!!!!!

We were just on the 3/27 Magic cruise and a girl and her mother won the cruise. The girl was about 8 years old and it appeared that she knew many of the questions without asking for help from her mother. Some of those questions were really hard, especially the ones at the end.

Wait....a panel pin?! They gave you a panle pin for participating? Well I'll be darned. I happen to hold the honor of being the very first spokesman of the very first panel on the very first Who Wants to be a Mousketeer show. We were sitting in the audience and when they asked I waved my hands like crazy and got picked. They asked everyone's name and then gave me the microphone and said I was the spokesman. We did pretty good till they asked a question about where Eisner got his start in television. Everyone else on the panel said ABC, figuring that since Disney owned ABC, that must be the answer (the answer is NBC). I knew they were wrong and tried to tell them but no one would listen. So, when they quizzed the panel, relunctantly, and with my best "don't trust me" look and voice, I said ABC. The poor lady believed us and got it wrong. I hated that. I guess I could have vetoed the panel. People I had never seen remembered that the entire cruise and bugged me about it.
Anyway, we got the other answers correct. At the end of the show, as everyone left the stage, we sat there thinking "Surely we get something for holding such a dubious honor". The stage manager then approached us and told us we could leave. We stared at each other in disbelief. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Even the losers got a keychain!
So now they give a pin? I guess after our cruise they figured the panel deserved something since they were automatically eliminated from being a contestant.
I have it on video, though. It's not a keychain, but it is something that no one else can claim (being the first).
Now if you'll all come by the house to see the video........

So you want to be sitting in the last seat to the right if your facing the stage?
