We always used to like that restaurant, DD13 still talks about the seaweed dinner rolls! They use it as their function room now :guilty:, anyone know why they shut the place down?

Hi,

We had our son's seventh birthday dinner there on June 23, 1994. He still talks about it. It's sad every time we are at the BC and walk past it.

It closed in 1997. It was then supposed to be used for private functions. I think there are functions--including weddings--there from time to time.

They do do weddings there, there was one when we were at Martha's Vineyard one time. It was so cute (we could see a little bit), they had Mickey and Minnie come all dressed in their wedding attire. They danced (along with the everyone else) the song "Mickey", what a riot!

I have often wondered why Ariel's shut down. I have wondered even more as to why the space has not been put to some other use. It does not get full use as a "special functions" space and I would have thought Disney would have converted the space to some other full time use in the 10+ years since it closed.

yup...someone summed it up...its used for weddings...but there was rumor about a year ago they were gonna close it completely.....there are ALOT of brides who LOVE it, so maybe that has delayed its closing:confused3

We are due to have our wedding reception at Ariels in December. When we were reserving our date, our wedding planner told us it was a good thing we picked our date in the middle of the month, because at the end of the year Ariels would no longer be used for receptions as they are planning on reopening a restaurant there??? I know cast members get a lot of information that may not always be accurate, but if they are no longer booking weddings there beyond December, it would seem to reason that the space is going to be used for something else....

We went to Ariels the very first month it opened, and then twice after. Was a fine restaurant. I even have a video of a 3 piece combo walking around the restaurant entertaining!!
From all I heard, it closed due to a combination of another Signature restaurant (Yatchsman) being close and more popular, along with the FF at the Boardwalk offering seafood.
Would be nice to see another restaurant open again--but my guess is that's it's just a rumor.

We were told they were going to be opening a new restaurant there about three years ago. Cool name, great concept, it sounded wonderful. To this day, we are still waiting, lol.

We ate there on our honeymoon in 1995. I always thought the name was kinda twisted though, why would Ariel want to serve her little friends up on plates? :rotfl:
