Have you read this book? My mama wants it for Christmas. I got it for her and flipped through it, but I haven't read it. If you've read it what did you think?

I worked for a large corporation, that was getting ready to downsize after 9/11, so everyone received a copy of this book. The basic message I got from it was that you shouldn't worry too much about change, because it's inevitable, you can't control it, and it could be beneficial. And you can become so focused on the " change " you can't see what's right in front of your face. This is pretty simplified, but that's how I remember it.

I read it and wasn't impressed. It seemed like a tiny book for the money, but if someone wants it as a gift, I'd go for it.

I completely agree. This book came highly recommended to me, so I ordered it online. While the message was a good one, there is very little meat in the book. It can be read very VERY quickly. At the end, I felt cheated for the money I had spent.

Our manager made us read it and sign that we had. :rolleyes: About 25 of us, adult nurses. None of us found it to be helpful, she just wanted us to be "receptive" to change and to "own" our attitudes. :scratchin

Nothing was changed by this book. It is fluff and a waste of time, IMHO. If you mom wants it, by all means get it for her but to any of you managers or bosses out there, don't force your employees to "embrace" the concepts in this book. It is insulting and degrading to think they can't adapt to change just because they don't feel the same as you do. (yes, I am speeking to MY boss). Just because people don't agree with you DOES NOT MAKE THEM WRONG ALL THE TIME.

Sorry, it has been a long, difficult few days. :duck:

Thank you all for your replies. I do appreciate them. I hope Mama likes it.

RNMOM, I hope things get better. {hugs}

I got the book out of the library.. FREE!!

As for paying full price, you can try som e book discounters.. like Half Price Books, Atlantic Book Warehouse, Books a Million or something like that where you can at least get it for less than say Barnes and Noble.

Seems like a good choice for Roy Disney, Stan Gold, and Mike Eisner::yes::
