Who loves Pins?

I found out on the Backstage Magic tour that the CMs pick up lanyards with random pins on them at the beginning on their shifts and return them at the end so the pins are redistributed for the next day. While many CMs do collect pins, the ones on the lanyard they wear onstage just belong to Disney. I had always thought that the pins actually belonged to the CMs and would feel bad if I traded a plain pin for a fancy one or worried that I was taking a favorite from the CM. Now I know better.

I will be at Disney Saturday and can't wait to begin buying and trading. I always have a couple of plain character pins on my lanyard for trading. I like to collect pins that remind me of memories at Disney or memories in my life. Trading with CMs allows us to indulge in the fun all day!

Ok...I may get flamed for this....but has anyone ever bought pins on ebay for the sole purpose of trading with cast members? DD wanted to get into the pin trading last trip, but as we all know, at $8-10 a pin it can get expensive rather quickly. On ebay you can buy pins in large quantities for $2 a pin.

Another great online site for Disney Pins is

www.pinpics.com

It allows you to look at most of the pins ever released and keep track of the pins you own, want, or are willing to trade. It also lets you trade with other Disney Pin collectors. (But you can always turn that feature off if you don't want to trade pins w/ others.)

It's a great hobby!

You are turning over the CM's lanyards , Helping someone get rid of their pins,And adding to your collection.

The only thing you want to make sure of when you buy lots is that they don't include Sesimea pins and that they state they all have the Official Disney logo on the back.

I'm looking right now for about 50 pins for our next few trips.In june we gave some VERY NICE LE pins for CM lanyard ones that we just didn't want and bought them as traders.They were thrilled to get a nice pin and they were gone before we walked away most times.

In addition to purchasing a "special pin" or two (or three) each vacation, I like to purchase a set of pins strictly for trading with CM's!!!

I have purchased sets of "official" pins on EBAY, but some sellers are jacking up their prices too!
If you are hesitant about using EBAY, you can consider purchasing a multiple pack of pins in the parks strictly for trading.
On our March 06 trip, there were sets of Mickey Pins, Princess Pins, Stitch and even Disney Holiday pins!
I chose the coolest looking set and traded with CMs.
The multiple sets were $22 and up, which is still cheaper than buying pins individually.

I am also going again in August and can't wait to add to our pin collection!
I am on my 2nd laynard and my daughter is on her 3rd!!!

I ADORE collecting pins!!! I think I have eight. Not very many I guess. I've seen some really radical pin collecters. But I really think my pins are nice. The best way to get great pins for less is to buy really cheap ones that you don't like and trade them with a cast member for really nice pins!!!
They HAVE to trade with you. It's really cool.

I think I may need 2 laynards, one to trade with and one to keep. I looked at the offical trading site and I saw so many that I want to get in August. I really need to explore trading with the CM's, it could save me money! I saw that they have cases that you can carry them in. I wonder if those would be better for DS 3 and DD 5. Any ideas?

I recently started to create a pin collection for my DD4. We are taking her for her 1st trip in Sept and I cant wait. I want to give her a few each day as little gifts, and will let her choose one or 2 while we are there. I shopped on ebay and got a few really great deals. Got a few CM pins too, for about $5 each.

Beware of shipping though! One seller wanted to charge me $5 for the 1st pin and I bought 8 more from them...they then wanted to charge $2.50 for each addtl pin! To be sent in the SAME package. Such a joke....but off the subject, sorry

I've been a huge pin collector for many many years. It goes way back before I went to Disney. I started with ski resort pins, then Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood pins. Then I went to Disney and was completely hooked. I don't go crazy, usually only 11-15 pins per trip. I only get ones that I like and also special event ones that I've attended, things like that. Last trip DW started getting into to too. She traded a few times with CM's, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Though I do like what someone said earlier in the thread. Either buy a new one or get 2 of ones that are cool so you can trade. Before our next trip I plan on getting a bunch at mousepinsonline.com. Good selection and great prices for trading.

DTD has a great pin store and I also like the store in Frontierland dedicated just to pins. Lots of good stuff there.

I have all my pins on a pin trading vest I bought during my first visit to Disney. Its starting to get pretty full.

Don't forget that if you stay at a Disney resort you get a voucher for 1 free pin which you can pickup at checkout counter of your hotels store. This pin isn't available for sale in any of the pin stores in the parks. Last year I got 2 (we had 2 rooms) apparently there was a set of 5 Disney Bus pins so I got me 2 of them. This year I got the Mickey with a video and still camera (this has turned out to be my favorite thus far as I'm a big photography nut).

Can't wait for the next trip hopefully next year!!

I didn't know that I could get a free pin for staying at a Disney hotel. I am staying at the Wilderness Lodge in December. Do I have to ask for the voucher or do they automatically give it to me at check-in? Thanks for the info

Yeah, this is the first I had heard about a free disney pin. Is this available at all resorts or is it only if you book a package?

I too enjoy collecting the pins. I found myself in the middle of the madness back in 1999, and started out collecting Resort pins and ride pins. Now I'm on to limited edition pins , holiday, AP pins, and DVC pins , along with special releases I like. I use the pin books to store them in, but I came up with displaying pins I enjoy seeing on golf towels hanging in my computer room. This way I get to enjoy them every evening while on the DIS.

I do like special box sets, and character releases, I'm hooked.....not many I don't like..

I love pins but got out of pintrading because it became too expensive for me to keep up with and I ran out of room to store them. If I buy a pin now it has to relate to a memory made during a visit.

They have discontinued this and replaced it with the Disney Photopass package.

Hello All.
I have never even heard of pin trading until i went to wdw this may.
The last time i was in disney world was about 1994.
But now im addicted to them. I was there for starwars weekends and spent about 100 dollars on starwars pins. And another 100 or so on other pins.
I just ordered the pin bag to put them in.
And on the way there my sister told me my niece collects them.
So i got a car starter kit for my nephew and some other pins for my niece.
And i just had my order come in with personalized pins for them.

For something so reasonably priced i am spending a bunch on them.
I want to go back in March so i am saving up for another bunch.
Plus i want to buy some to trade.
My sister was trading down there and it seemed like a hoot.
I want to buy the books about it.
I should have bought more collectors edition or limited edition.
I love the pins they are a cheap easy way to remind you of your vacation.

I love pins!! I have been E-Baying way too much lately trying to get some inexpensive trading pins and we aren't even going back for over a year!! I collect Mickey's, DD collects girlie ones (Minnie, Princesses, etc) and DH collects anything Patriotic. DS will be too little to trade when we go but you never know! The only catch for me is I have been pretty lucky on the Cast Exclusive pins and DH won't let me trade them!!
