Who is destashing in 2010?

Good for you :thumbsup2

I'm sure it was difficult to avoid the temptation of bringing it all back in the house for a future garage sale.

Yes, congrats! It would be difficult for me to not bring it back in :headache:;)

Well, my destashing had seriously stalled since we were so busy over the summer. But, I found out that I am expecting baby #5 (SURPRISE!!!). This is giving me all sorts of motivation to destash, especially since I need to clear out the guest room to make a nursery. Problem is, I was just about to destash my basement and get rid of any toys that were too young for my current baby who is now 7. Before I found out I was expecting, it would have been very easy to go down there and pitch, pitch, pitch. Now ,everything I pick up , I think " I better save this for baby" SO this is really a double edged sword for my destashing. :upsidedow

Congrats!! How exciting!
And yes! My fear is I'll *need* something too! Although not the baby stuff ;)

Sold four more comic TPB's for 20.00:cool1:

A bit more stuff gone!!! a lot more to go!!!:rotfl2:

Hi everyone! I'm back! It's great to catch up with everyone's posts and see how much has been done...I'm proud of all of you!

I have found a great way of destashing...move a son out! Seriously, my second son moved into a house with my oldest son and two friends. When he moved to the dorm for his freshman year, he obviously had a lot of items still here at home. Well in May when he moved back home, he added everything that we bought for the dorm and what he had accumulated over the school year. Stuff was EVERYWHERE! He was rarely home, but all his belongings were here and made it so hard to get things done. When we would discuss his things, he kept saying he didn't know what I was talking about, he didn't have that much stuff. Then came moving day...we had the truck to move my oldest son's possessions to the new house from his old place, but we brought it here first because my second son said he didn't have very much. I just stayed quiet. ;) He had not even packed his belongings up yet. I stayed outside and talked with his girlfriend. After many, MANY trips back and forth to the truck, he looked at me and said, "I severely underestimated how many things I own!!!" "You think?!" I cracked up laughing! :rotfl2:Since then I have found another couple of boxes of items and I took them over to him. I love him, but not his stuff! So now my two younger guys and I are looking around and we see an enormous difference in this very small home. It has been very inspiring. The boys are awesome now about our agreement to not bring new stuff in if at all possible and have helped me in sorting things. We are moving right along!

I'm attempting to get rid of 75% of the things in my apartment. Will be getting a space at the next flea market to sell my stuff. All money wlll go into the Disney fund :)

Retromom- it is great that your two youngest got such an object lesson! Hopefully it sticks for life!

Well the cancer testing slowed me WAY down. A lab tech ordered the wrong blood test,- it takes a week to come back and wasn't noticed for a week, so it made the whole process 6 weeks long instead of four. It was miserable.

Anyway, they ended up doing another dose of radioactive iodine which stinks but the good part is they burned off all my tastebuds and they haven't come back yet so I have de-stashed 8 pounds. :cool1: (16 more to go.)

I'm still getting my house back in shape from that but after that I will be de-stashing electronically- read an article that suggested 30 minutes a day at it and I think that sounds do-able. Going to go through all the pics I took 6 times to get it 'right' and keep the good ones, go through all my bookmarks and my email inboxes, etc. Not sure how long that will take. It's a lot.

Hope you are doing alright. I didn't know you were going through so much!
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. You are an inspiration to keep plugging away at de-stashing!

This week I donated a ton of stuff; clothes, backpacks, and toys. I have another large bag to go. I need to go room by room, but I haven't felt like pulling everything out. I haven't had enough time to do it properly and I don't want to put everything back willy nilly. So it's random de-stashing for now. :upsidedow

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hope you are feeling better real soon.

I like the 30 minutes at a time idea. Sometimes, I don't even start a project because I know I won't have the time or energy to finish it. With this new method, I don't have a valid excuse. Thank you for the kick in the rear end. I've been taking things slow lately because this pregnancy has really taken it's toll on me, but if I don't get moving real soon, this baby will be here and I won't be ready:scared1: So, off the puter now, and up to the nursery. I'll set the timer for 30 minutes. Then, I'll have an apple and some almonds to give me some energy to continue on for another 15 minutes. That sounds like a good plan for today. Thanks for the motivation!

Good luck with your treatments!

How kind! I have to be honest though...in the midst of it, I really wasn't de-stashing much. I'm almost good as new now (minus the tastebuds) and done with any testing for another year. On occasion I am mentally bemoaning the fact that that two weeks of lost salary could have upgraded our January extended family trip to DVC at AKL...but I wouldn't have spent it that way anyway. I'm too cheap at this point in my life.

Aren't we all?!! :rotfl:

Thanks for this thread and keeping the ball rolling. It has helped me a great deal. I see the progress others are making and it gets me in gear!

I hope the worst is behind you and it's smooth sailing from here on out.

I'm happy, finally getting to where I can see I've made some progress this summer. We got rid of some junk from the cellar, a number of 5 g. wine carboys, several boxes of books went to the public library, old clothing and small appliances to the diabetes association. We gave a push mower to our cleaning lady. We have been going through our files and shredding old documents that are no longer needed.

I'm sorry to hear that you were ill, but glad to hear that you are doing better!

But just wondering for those of you who sell say bunches of kids clothes on something like Craigslist, how much do you charge? Do you charge per outfits? (These clothes are in good condition, no stains or tears). And I'm talking sizes 3/4-7/8. Some are 2 piece sets others are just jeans and tops/sweaters. Ideas.

I've been wanting to post clothing on CL but how do you usually go about doing that? Do you post pictures of individual outfits or do you just say you have a bagful of a certain size and invite people to come look through it?

-kitty

I personally sell by sizes and seasons. Offer a bag for a certain amount and go from there. I'm just not sure should I charge per outfit or individual piece. Just wondering how others come up with prices for a bag full?

We had a garage sale two weeks ago.Made $725 and got rid of tons of stuff we don't use. What a great feeling!

Pulled out everything in a spare closet and could not believe everything that was in there. I finished putting in a closet system about 30 minutes ago. I am going to go thru everything that was in the closet - pass along family pieces to my siblings, purge, finally only put back in stuff I want to keep

Thought of this thread yesterday ! I am FINALLY getting rid of the last of the baby items in house, except for a few sentimental baby outfits, maybe 7 total. My DS just turned 8, it is time as no more little ones will be joining us.

I cried as I folded all of it up and put in the few nice toys I had kept . Thomas the Tank will go in attic, but all else GOES.

Feels good to get it all out, but sad because there will be no more babies. to play with it . : (

I should really sell it, but I want it all GONE, so off to good will today. The fisher price little people will go my godchild, so at least I can see him play with it. : )

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone!

I have decided I need to do quick run throughs of the rooms I have done already- bedroom, bathrooms, living room, office- before Friday. Because, Friday means I only have 1/3 of 2010 left for destashing, so I have to make sure 2/3 of my destashing is actually done!

This weekend I tackled the DVD clutter. I haven't conquered it all, but I did find at least a dozen kid DVD's that my DS doesn't want any more and I reunited a lot of loose DVD's with their cases. So, that was a start. I also decluttered my bookshelves and entertainment center in the family room. The difference is dramatic! I threw out a bunch of stuff and rounded up 4 large bags of books that I took to the AAUW book sale. It felt great to get that stuff out of the house! Now, if I can just get DH on the decluttering bandwagon, we'll be all set! I wish I knew of a charity yard sale coming up. I'd love to give my stuff to a good cause like that. If not, it will all go to the Salvation Army! My closet is next on my list (again).

DH started out really well helping with the destashing an he has cleaned out the storage shed a lot this summer the rest of the hiuse not so much. We have found an agreeable solution tho....we are in the process of selling our home to 1 of our DD's and moving leaving most of our junk behind for DD to deal with.;)
