Who is destashing in 2010?

Excited to hear how your yard sale went! We are having T-storms all this afternoon into tomorrow but were lucky enough to get a break in the rain from last nights storms to go to our son's baseball game :goodvibes

Hopefully the storms stay away long enough for everyone's games to be played today. Last night they woke me up and scared me silly(yes I'm a ninny!). Non-stop lightening and roaring sounds. We were under a tornado watch for a while around 4am but they cleared that off pretty quickly. I'm exhausted so those storms had better be calm during the night! ;)

Anyway, I did some destashing in the kitchen. Cleared out all the old spices and put the remaining ones into the proper spice jars so they actually fit on the spice rack. DH got the cozy coupe and the 2 kiddie gas pumps out of the garage, although since I've been putting things into the garage, it looks terrible again! :rolleyes1

I've started to destash my computer. I got a portable hard drive and got all our photos onto it. Now to summon up the courage to remove them from the computer. The computer is full and having a hard time functioning so it's a must do. I'm thinking of burning all the photos onto a few DVDs too as more backup...then I can remove them from the computer...I think! LOL

oh yeah, I destashed one entire pile of kiddie art on thursday. Went through 2 sets of batteries in the camera to take pics of it but 1 pile down and 3 to go! I guess I better get a lot of batteries lined up to finish the job! LOL I got an 8GB camera card so hopefully I can get the majority of the pics on that one.

We also sorted through and labeled the bins under the stairs. And I was able to sort through the one clothes bin for everything YDD's size and get that out. So now I can fit the remaining clothes into a bin half the size.

I've still got another 2 finals to take at school over this next week so I'll be tied up with studying but my goal is to finish taking kiddie art pics this week. It took me about 3hrs to do the one pile so it's no small task.

Yard Sale update:

We had a great day!!:cool1: weather was cooperative, cloudy but no rain!!!

Our grand total was 529.00:goodvibes

For big items I sold a dining table set for 80.00 and a recliner for 80.00. The rest of it was items were under 5.00 with most of them 1.00 or less.

We were able to get rid of so much stuff that what was left fit inside 6 plastic rubbermaid totes, to be resorted and donated/tossed later this week. it felt like it took me an hour just to haul the items out to the driveway this morning, but it feels worth it right now:banana::banana::banana:

The driveway is back to normal with the cars parked where they are suppose to be, all totes are now in the shed, and saw horses / tables back to where they belong. Pick up took almost an hour by its self.

Oh yeah and I already removed the sale signs!!

Now my den is also back to normal without the pile of of boxes/totes and sale items.

My sister in law had a garage sale today and I made $83 off of baby clothes! Considering I was selling them for $.50 a piece, that was a lot!

Oh yay! So glad I found this post. We are having a yard sale tomorrow!! I am so excited to finally clean house and get rid of everything we just plain don't need anymore!!! I guess I'll update ya on how well we do!

:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Just had a person stop by my house (prearranged of course) and sold him 100 comics for 125.00 (only another 9 boxes to go:rotfl2:)

This has been one profitable (so to speak) weekend lots of "stuff" gone and money in my pocket!!!!

I had to look for this thread today!

I have been a little under the weather with allergies. On top of that I found out I was allergic to some of the OTC meds I was using. Splotchy rash & bad head aches. I was a mess! Luckily my allergies have calmed down a little. I'm just not taking anything right now. I'd rather have the allergy symptoms than all the rest! Just some Motrin now and then. Anyway, hope everyone is well. :)

I made $59 on clothes the kids have outgrown. I picked up the clothes that didn't sell. Took them to a consignment store and made about $20 from that. I'll donate the rest. Not bad.

I went through a huge stack of student papers. They just grow and grow. It's like mowing the lawn. Needs to be done so often! So many papers come home in their backpacks. And I'm like Scarlet O'Hara, "I'll deal with that tomorrow.", or something like that. Well, that has got to change. That tomorrow ends up being one huge chore!!!! We are currently at zero extra papers around the house. Yea! Less paper to deal with. I'm so glad.

How's everyone else coming along?

Oh No!!! 10 days with no posted destashing!!!

I went on a rampage yesterday...had one of those moments when SO MUCH STUFF was just driving me crazy. Realized that next month is half way through the year and I am not sure that I am half way through the stuff!!!

I started in on THE ROOM...the one where we've been tossing everything we didn't know what to do with. I started with the closet so I have a place to put the things we DO need when I'm done. Threw a bunch of stuff out and have a bunch ready to go to Goodwill. The closet isn't done but I got a good start on it.

How about you guys?

I did some major destashing thursday and friday. I have 2 huge piles for a yard sale and we've been tossing & donating like crazy. I'm about 75% done inside the house and I've still got some major decisions to make in the garage but it's been raining so much that I haven't had a free day and rain free day coincide to get it all pulled out. We are however making solid progress on photographing the kids 'art' and getting that thrown away (saving the most special pieces). I got DH an 8GB card for the camera and we haven't filled it yet. I'm not sure how many pictures it holds but we've burned through 8sets of AAs so far! LOL

I also ordered DVDs to burn all our pics onto but....my DVD drive won't write to DVDs...how that works I have no idea! SO either I don't have the right program to do it or my drive is lying when it shows it burns to DVDs! :confused3:mad:

But I'm out of time so I'll just have to put the hard drive into the fire box while we are away and try again after we get back from WDW.

i have decided to purge my clothes closet today. have way way too many clothes. i am hoping to get rid of at least 30% to start with. i am starting with any clothing mainly shirts/blouses that i have to iron as i am really trying to cut down on the amount of ironing i do. anything that i have not worn in the last 2 years will go on the goodwill pile. i should say that 3 weeks ago i cleared out a lot of clothing now i am back to do more. i did not realized just how much stuff i had. it has become overwhelming in my closet and i am determined to tame it down. after i am done with my closet i will move on to the linen closet. just had to put this in writing, this way i am committed to getting this chore done. one more thing, i will not go out to rebuy clothing. any money that i might spend on clothing will go to my disney cruise fund. we are hoping to go again next year.

Craigslist is my friend!!

repainted/redecorated my dd's room, so sold all of the furniture on Craigslist. she is a big reader so i organized the books into lots and sold most of them too. Also started to go thru ds's toys and got rid of some of them that way.

I am keeping the profits from the Craigslist sale in an envelope and have certain things I am looking to buy on CR, so when I find them I will use this money.

It had really worked so far!

CR? Did you mean CL? Or is CR something I don't know?

I have not done too much since our yard sale. I'm jealous of those that did so well! We cleared about $100 over 2 mornings but at least stuff is gone. I donated a bunch & have a small pile of things I want to sell on CL or ebay.

I have gone through all of my school papers for the year and used one of our trunk tables to store the keepers in along w/my textbooks. The kids went through their books & donated a bunch to their school book swap. Now they have decided to create a home library in the basement. They moved all of their books & bookcases from each of their rooms so they can share books & organize them together. Since they both have bad dust allergies, this will also help keep their rooms cleaner & less to dust.

I'm losing weight but waiting a bit before I completely purge my closet. I may put a bunch of maybes in the hope chest to at least get them out of sight. Then I can see what I pull out & if not, donate the rest this fall.

My goal is to get our space organized and clear out the extra garage space so DD can park there in the winter. Thanks for bringing this back up, it always motivates me to read what everyone else has been working on!

I was a part of the 2009 thread and did very well for the first six months. Summer came, the kids were out of school, vacation, school started back, football, soccer, wrestling basketball, girl scouts, boy scouts, homework - baseball, softball, yada, yada!! So, here we go again!!

My kids have 27 days of school left. Three are half days so they can't count because I just have no time between drop off and pick up! 24 days - 24 tasks!! Each day I have vowed to tackle a new task from start to finish. Some tasks need to be broken up into a few days, some are more intensive than others. I will do it and the list will be down to 0 by June 23rd - last day of school! Don't be annoyed with my daily check-ins. I'm really going to stay on top of it and be accountable to you guys.

And away we gooooooooooo!!

We arent destashing so much right now but re-decorating destashed areas!

I am dying to tear apart the boys room but I need to motivate DH to install a closet system to organize out their clothing issues!

I guess I did destash my book case that I keep cookbooks in and put all the recipe magazines in organizers, etc. Does that count? popcorn::

I try to, I really do, but whenever I go through all my stuff, I always think "I may need this later." I heard a good rule of thumb is, put stuff your not sure about in a box, take out what you want/need as you use it. At the end of six months donate whatever's in the rest of the box.

disneyfav4ever, that is very good advice even if some folks have to use the one year rule instead. My trouble is that I have such a big house with so darned much storage that I have not had any reason to downsize until this point in my life. Now it is a job that has taken me nearly two years so far.

I packed up nine Disney park videos and sent them off to a fellow Diser this morning. Cleared a large amount of shelf space but it was a bit sad as I used to watch them with my grandsons when they were little. It helps that the family I am sending to will love them and they have many small children though. :lovestruc

Slightly Goofy

Never too late!!! Peter Walsh's "It's all too much" book has a plan for decluttering in a week!

Now personally I could never do it that fast but you could give it a shot! :lmao:

Seriously, it's never too late to start making your life the best it can be!
