Who is destashing in 2010?

Sold another 100 comic books over the weekend and pocketed about 130.00:cool1::cool1::cool1:

I am making some room and some money:goodvibes
All of this is going towards the 2011 WDW trip as I have already saved up the money for the 2010 trip.

I ,love decluttering and making money at the same time.:banana:

Where can you sell comic books?

I'm still going! :)

Dropped off a trunk full to goodwill just a bit ago, and seems I must have forgotten a bag at home since I didn't see it ,darn it...

I also dropped 2 bags of clothes to OUAC, whatever they don't take will go to goodwill as well. I'm not interested in reselling on Ebay even though I could get a lot more money since I'll never actually get around to listing the stuff. ;)

and I've got YDD's Giselle dress in the car ready to drop off at the dry cleaners. Hopefully they can box it up as well. I was planning on selling it but DH thinks we should save it for her. I reminded him how much we paid for it but he's insisting so I guess we'll store it for the next couple decades and see if she wants it when she has her own children.

also I have all those pads in a bag plus a ton of jello plus a ton of kool-aid to drop off at the food pantry tonight. They want the pads and other than a bag of 20 packs or so that will go to the middle school, I'm giving them to the food pantry. Also I need to finish going through all the mac n cheese so I can add that to the food pantry drop off. We have like 30 boxes that need to be eaten this month and I never remember to make it for the kids so I want to get it out of here while I'm thinking about it. I'm thinking I should drop off some of the cereal too. We still have like 40boxes and I'm to the point of having it organized by date so we can get it eaten but I don't want to eat all that cereal by myself! LOL The kids prefer hot breakfasts these days.

Maybe I should have DH drop this stuff off? I feel like a weirdo with the odd donation! :rotfl:

Trust me, the food pantries are used to the strange donations! They'll just be grateful! They get stuff that's WAY expired, and once a box of stuff full of cockroaches! (Which is one reason our destashing is so important for US!)

I'm sure they do get some yucky stuff. :sad2:

Well it was 47 boxes of mac n cheese  that are short dated. About 15 need to be eaten by the 12th and then the rest are split between 3/2 and 4/21 so plenty of time I be given out.

I kept like 12boxes of 4/21 exp ones but I'm not sure we'll even get to those. Maybe I'll put a post it note on the microwave to remind me to make them. LOL

ODD will help me sort through the canned goods when she gets home in a bit. I have some evaporated milk, some cream of chicken soup and some other stuff that are running short on time (1-2mths) to use up and clearly I won't be using them since I haven't done so yet.

Since I was in date checking mode, I sorted through my baking cabinet. mostly things like sprinkles and cookie cutters and spices but I found some long exp bread crumbs, an empty can of baking Pam :confused3 and a bunch of other little odds and ends that I tossed out. So that's all nice and neat and organized now. :goodvibes

I did the other catch-all cabinet the other day too which a lot of things ended up dropped off at Goodwill. It's so nice to open it up and not brace for an avalanche!

Well I am off to a slow steady start. I have done all of the cupboards and drawers in the bathroom this week. It looks so tidy in there that I think I will replace my hand towels and bath mats to brighten it up.

Where can you sell comic books?

I am memeber of some comicbook websites that are collector orinted.

So I have been able to move a bunch there plus a local collector comes by from time to time to buy some off of me.

If you want additional info, pm me and I can give you specifics.

DH dropped off the stuff at the food pantry so that's done. :thumbsup2

and we got $40.80 from OUAC and DH said that they barely took anything. I guess whatever they took was 'high value' to them. :confused3 I'm not complaining though! $40 more for WDW! :cool1:

I just love this thread. Just when I reach a lull and don't think I can do anymore, I come back here and get inspired again! :thumbsup2 I was on a roll and doing great but lost a little incentive. Y'all make me excited to start again tomorrow! Thanks! :goodvibes

I love destashing!!

Not to sound bossy, but please don't give food pantry's expired food.

I try not to let the paper get out of control. But there are a few things I feel strongly about keeping...financial statements from investments, life insurance statements and paystubs with state retirement.

I also have the tax returns for every year we have been married 13 years worth. I keep each year in a folder and they are in a box w/a lid on a shelf in the basement.

well some of my paper destashing just bit me in the butt.

I realized when I cleared out my email inbox that I never did see a refund from Crocs for the shoes I returned. I called them and the rep told me she saw that they went to the warehouse but that the warehouse hadn't matched them up to my order yet. This was before Christmas! WTH!!

Then she wanted me to give her the tracking number of my package so she could prove to the warehouse those were from my order. Well I literally just threw away all that paper including a ton of tracking numbers.:mad::mad:

So I went through my last bag of paper hoping it would be there but it's not.

I'm going to call them today and insist on a supervisor. The shoes were sent back in the original box they came in, less than a week after receiving them, with the original invoice inside the box!!! The RMA number was on each side of the box. Fed Ex shipped the return through Crocs return program with my name on the box. And somehow they want to play confused??

ok, I'm going to call them Mon since CS is closed on the weekends.

Sorry to hear about that  Good luck, hope you get it back.

That is also my biggest concern. Just when I toss something, I will need it. Or want it. This has been happening alot just since the new year.

Like an old craft item that I haven't used in forever, but a week later, have to go and buy it!
An odd colored greenish cami that I never wore so donated it. Then find a really cool shirt-blouse at JCP on sale for $4.00 where the cami would be definitely perfect!
A rebate I just discovered for products I recently bought, but tossed the receipts.

Its too frustrating sometimes. Thats why i sometimes hesitate to destash.

I've heard organizers say over and over that if you bring something new in, you should get rid of something old.

in my case, if I bring in something new, we need to get rid of 5 or 6. That's how much stuff we have!

I know it sounds late, but better late than never, I have all of the Christmas stuff (not yet put away) and I was waiting until we are all home to help and put in our 2 cents. I'm going to ask everyone today what we can get rid of. Out of about 8 bins of holiday stuff, I think we use 2 bins. I think we have a lot that someone else could be using. We certainly don't need to be storing it if no one wants it.

I'd like to hear how others handle the mail. I have done my best to get off mailing lists of catalogs etc. I spent a whole afternoon just emailing and requesting to be taken off lists. I signed up on some site a while back to end junk mail.

But we still get so much mail -- how do you sort it, shred it, etc. I'm looking for an efficient way.

Look for my post (on the previous page?) about how I do it now. It's the post about the Bill Organizer folders.

I'm trying to get in a habit of sorting my mail as soon as I bring it in the house. I have a Staples Mail Mate shredder that is small enough to sit on my kitchen counter. As I look at things, they either get tossed in the trash, shredded, or put in a small basket. The basket is bills, things that need put away, or things that need my attention.

well after 20 years I finally organized my kitchen tool drawers!

I always just tossed all my stuff into a few drawers & was always searching for items I needed.
I arranged the drawers with the spatulas/spoons/tongs/ice cream scoops etc with each other.
I am amazed at how good this works!

I sort mail right when I get home. It takes about 5 min. I have a basket that any thing that needs to be paid goes into (or a birthday invitation). This basket is like a "to do" basket. Then I have another basket for anything that needs to be filed. Everything else gets shreded/thrown away (or put in recycling). If I don't do this, it just acculumlates WAY too fast, and I don't need any of that stuff :)

This is my blog
http://lazyorganizer.blogspot.com/2010/01/step-2-mail-aka-junk-and-other.html

I also sort mail as soon as it comes in. 99% of our mail is what I'd call junk mail. I have paperless billing for all banking and CC statements and I pay every utility bill as it comes in and then toss it. If I am waiting until a specific day to pay a utility bill then I simply schedule it online through my bank.

Takes care of all of that stuff very quickly.
