Who is destashing in 2010?

Well, we're hosting a playoff party today so the bad news is, everything that hasn't been de-stashed yet is getting thrown in the basement spare room. The good news is, then it will be easy to take out one bag at a time for sorting!

I've been doing a little bit at a time, here and there. We live in an apartment and we just don't have the space to keep a lot of our stuff. Our storage space in the basement is packed full from top to bottom and back to front with boxes. I need to go through everything and just start getting rid of stuff but it's a big job to do alone. I did a little bit last night and got rid of 3 boxes worth of stuff and also filled up a garbage bag with old magazines.

I started going through my closet last week and plan to go through the dresser the first weekend in February. I have a feeling that most of it will get done late in the summer or early fall as I'll be getting laid off sometime around then so I'll have plenty of time on my hands

I took in 19 trashbags full to SA today. They'll be coming to the house next Sat to pick up the big furniture and appliances. Woot!

Wow, way to go!!! That must feel soo good!

I have not done any decluttering since school started back up but I am at least maintaining most areas. The kitchen counters are threatening to become a dumping ground agqain but I'm trying to keep it under control. The bedrooms still look good & I actually made the beds and picked up each day, took no more than 10 minutes.

I need to vacuum & clean the bathrooms but it's nice not having to pick up a ton of stuff to do those chores.

To discourage my family from dumping stuff on my counters I keep things like candles and bowls of apples and oranges there. It doesn't stop them, but it has lessened it a little bit. (Plus the kids eat more fruit when they see it sitting out like that)

I took 6 bags (kohls size bags) with toys and clothes to Goodwill yesterday! I also cleaned out the medicine cabinet.

I actually threw away a cat toothbrush and toothpaste. I'm not sure why I ever thought that was a good idea!

Argh...the more I get rid of, the more I want to get rid of!

The first round of destashing is done for the bedroom, closet, bathroom, kitchen, and living and dining room. Still left to go is the office, plus the basement.

I'm going to finish up the office and then switch my main goal to losing weight while I keep slowly working through the basement!

I will definitely still be here though!

I find that destashing and cleaning really helps with my weight loss goals. I eat when I'm bored and I tend to go overboard cleaning and eat something unhealthy because I'm starving. Now I get up, eat a bowl of oatmeal and a piece of fruit, then take a water bottle with me into the room I'm working on. When I start to feel hungry I take a break and have a pre-planned snack or lunch (depending on the time) then get back to work. I stop working when it's about time for the kids to get home from school and take care of homework and all that stuff. Then I'm not exhausted from cleaning ALL day. After they go to bed I get on the Gazelle while I watch tv.

Not to mention all the calories I burn cleaning :thumbsup2.

Now I am picturing trying to brush my cats teeth! :rotfl:

Just joining in here - I need to make an effort to get rid of a lot of stuff I've been "meaning to" get rid of for a long time. Between that stuff and the baby's stuff, the place is getting out of control.

Started with the linen closet the other day - I finally got rid of a bunch of towels I have had since college, random extra pillowcases that we never use, and a set of sateen sheets that we thought would be comfortable but just made us too hot.

I want to do the living room bookshelves next - stuff is just piling up on there, I need to pare it down.

Well, after repeated attempts to 'fix' everything at the same time, I have had more success destashing when I focused on just that for an extended period of time and didn't worry about the weight loss.

Now that I have the 'stuff' under a reasonable amount of control, I'm just switching my 'main' focus to the weight loss- and I think my big problems there have been 1) failing to have a meal plan in place in advance and 2) not making allowances for failure.

I donated a few bags today. I already have some more bags to go. I'm coming across some clothes I don't feel fabulous in, but they are still in good condition. As I find them, out they go!

I took a BIG box of clothes to Goodwill today... I fianlly made myself do part of my closet and found that all of the clothes I have been holding onto for "when I finally lose weight" have gone out of style! Way out of style! High high waists and cropped shirts. I was so glad. I have wanted to get rid of them before (years ago) and would always say "no, there is nothing wrong with these, and if I lose weight, I won't be able to afford a new wardrobe." So - I'm bummed I never lost the weight, but thrilled that I could get rid of that box of stuff and not look back. I had no idea how dated the stuff looked, because I have not looked in the box in years.

Today I did a lot of destashing! I got rid of more magazines and recycled them at a dumpster that some of the local schools have that is a fundraiser for extracurricular activities. I cleaned out my bathroom cabinet, getting rid of two huge trash bags of old makeup and toiletries. Now there is extra room in the cabinet. I also scrubbed the shower/bath tub and the sink. It looks so nice and clean! I also organized my school things for the semester and my tax materials.

Thanks for the inspiration everybody!

I did 2 kitchen drawers. Trying to arrange a drawer just for my new keurig coffee pods so they are not all over the counter. Funny the stuff you find. I started a new jar for change too : )

I donated a small box of clothes today. I've started another pile of stuff to donate. I'll be adding to it tonight.

I have this for my kcups. http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-5060-K...2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1264557648&sr=8-2 It holds 27 (29 if you stuff two in the top).

They also have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-5071-K...1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1264557648&sr=8-1 It holds 30.

If you have a Bed Bath and Beyond near you, they carry the spinner and you can use a 20% off coupon on it. I think the round one started out $20.

still destashing..
and from the looks of things I will be doing this for a while.....

I swear I have 5000 magazines stashed in my closet. have gone through about 1/4th of them & yes I look through each one..... ( quickly... & yes I do pull some articles) i just cannot toss the pile out. figure at least I have got this motivated. my hubby takes them to work & tosses them in the dumpster ,, but he looks through a lot of them while on 'break' he wonders why I could just not sell them.......... yea right. no one wants 20+ year old magazines on computer/computer games/ house decorating/ horses/ etc etc.
(so far he hasn't said to me " you realize how much $$$$ all these magazines cost???")

did clean 6 kitchen drawers & several cupboards. I still know I should toss out more, ,but figure this is round ONE.

one thing I found really weird. a pair of shoes in my closet practically disintegrated. they probably had been sitting in the same spot for 10 years and the soles just fell off in pieces UNDER them!!! really weird. the brand is "mushrooms" ( anyone remember these? probably from the 70's & sold in good department stores)

I'm in the same boat with the magazines. I have whole years collections on some magazines. I always think I'll get back to them, but I never do. I've been thinking about asking the library if they want them. I know they keep back issues of magazines. Maybe they would want them. I just have a hard time tossing them.

I donated more clothes today. If I keep this up, I'll need to go shopping. :upsidedow Most of the clothes I push to the side to get to the ones I really like. How silly is that? I have more to go. Tired of the color, no longer like the style, doesn't fit, shrunk a size smaller (but is still nice), you name it. I got a little of everything in that list. Time for it all to go!

WOW Thank you! They are both nice. I think i like the 2nd one that seems a little taller and holds a couple more. I do have BBB around here so will have to save the next coupon.

I asked my hubby to get me something out of the closet ( he was headed that way ) of the one I have been cleaning.
when he returned he said " that is the best show on tv" I asked him huh??? he replied "hoarders."

mmmm..
