Who is destashing in 2010?

Tackled the pantry today. :woohoo:

Mine is one of those houses that if I have about 1-2 hrs. notice that someone is coming, I can make it look immaculate. But God help that person if they open a cabinet or closet, everything will fall on top of them. I can get the house looking clean, but it stays that way for about 12 hours, because nothing really has a place, and to look for something the kids need to dump out the whole closet or pantry or box of toys. So I am slowly making my way through hitting all these trouble areas. I'm hoping that if I get though all the hidden chaos, that eventually the house will stay clean and tidy all the time.

This is one of my major to-dos for 2010 as well. I'm finding that a lot of the pics I want to print are not 4x6 photo quality for some reason and I wish I had known that years ago and could have retaken a lot of the pictures at the time.

They do print out but tend to be very grainy/blurry. :(

I am sorry about your pictures. Could you print them out in wallet size? I know Walgreens you can make a collage on a 4X6 size print so that may be an option too. I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as a bad picture, anything is better than nothing. Good luck.

I finished the girl's room. 3 HUGE bags of trash. I am washing their sheets and the bedspreads. (I wash the sheets routinely, but the bedspreads not as often.) Glad it is done!

The rest of the house has suffered due to my extra 2 days in their room, but it will pay off I hope.

So excited! MAJOR progress this weekend. Our dresser is huge and was covered in miscellaneous 'stuff'.' When we got done DH said "I forgot it was actually made of wood." DH cleaned out a huge bookcase, too- I don't even know where all the 'stuff' went that was on it, but it's gone!!

I will admit, some of our stuff is just 'shifting,' from one spot to another but we ARE making progress. I just think of Dory and 'just keep swimming, keep swimming...." :)

I have NOT made it to Goodwill yet. I have never kept track before, but this year I am going to track all our Goodwill donations to see how the deductions add up.

I was able to get a lot done in my son's room today and eliminated a good deal of clutter. I still have to go through all his little toys (think like McDonald's type) and weed through the ones he doesn't play with.

My husband set up the bookcase I purchased yesterday, and it looks really nice with our other furniture. I'm ready to start putting DS' toys and board games on it, and even if we're not getting rid of anything in that vein, at least it will look a lot nicer.

I also ordered a new upholstered storage bench for our living room from Walmart.com. My DS has a ton of transformers, so it will be nice to have his toys somewhere accessible, but hidden.

Tomorrow, my mother has offered to help, so I'm hoping to tackle our hall closet. Lots of linens, art supplies, and scrapbooking supplies that never get used. Time to clean out! :thumbsup2

Well our weekend plans went a lil differently. DH decided he wanted to paint the nursery Saturday, so that was one day of destashing we couldnt do but it was something that needed to be done so still progressing. Today we did the nursery closet and WOW things you keep on to.:scared1: That closet had/has our "keepsake" containers in there. Well I wanted to go thru and consolidate... DH went thru his it was in like 3 different boxes and now is in one Rubermaid Tote.:) I went thru 3 rubbermaid totes including one double sized one and a box it was mainly stuff animals from my childhood and (Stitches and Roos)Which I had to keep all our in excellent condition) The Stitches and Roos tho, now are in a Extra Large Space Save bag in one of the totes. The rest I went thru and found things like a Tupperware Noah's Ark Toy:woohoo: I am gonna clean it for our lil girl to play with when she can. I got rid of 3 sets of full sheets, a huge box of stuff animals in really good condition, a suitcase, a bedding set (full size), and a few odds and ends. We still have the same amount of totes in there but now all the extra boxes are gone and now I have the shevles to use for our lil girl. So still a good progress. I am really hoping that when we are done getting all the junk out we can get to all the decorating that we have been trying to do for 3 3/4 years when we moved in. I want it all to be done before our lil girl arrives.:lovestruc

Next weekend I am hoping we can tackle the office closet and get it organize.

This week I am going to tackle all the drawers with misc junk in them and get them organized.

I was just a little bit bummed this morning as I left for work, that there wasn't more trash to put out. But I just realized that it's MLK day so I have another day- no trash pick up today!

Where does all of this crap come from? I swear I only bought some of it, the rest cloned itself or something.

LOL:lmao:...I thought I was the only one who had a "stuff" cloner in the house. I think mine comes out right before we are having people over or even better a family dinner! UGH!

I'm checking back in after taking a destashing break.

Today I'm back and doing the laundry/craft room. It'll probably take me all week to destash and deep clean.

I got my whole huge closet done, I am so excited:) I rented a dumpster so I went through everything in the kitchen also. I am working on this week with getting rid of some papers I no longer need.

I sold about 100 different comics for about 150 dollars. Just waiting for the payments to clear and then I ship them out.

I like getting rid of this stuff. The comics are part of a big comic collection that I have and I am in the process of making it smaller.:goodvibes:cool1:

I have boxed up so much "crap" and "stuff" for this years yard sale my Den is starting to look like a warehouse!@! But it is all stack neatly in boxes until I can get the shed cleaned out and put the stuff in there.

Well, I have been posting about all the destashing I have been doing around my house. It feels soooo good!! I am destashing my body too and am down 5 pounds. :woohoo: I decided that part of my xmas present to my 81 year old mother was to destash her apartment too. That is a daunting tasks. Only 2 bedrooms and 2 baths , but..... She has lived there for 5 years( since my Dad passed). She is very happy and has her kitty to keep her company and is very active with little ladies groups in her small town. Well, I went up (100 miles North of here) on Saturday Morning and started. 10 big black bags of trash ( paper, broken things, newpapers, boxes, etc...) and 10 big black bags to go to Consignment later) and she is a happy momma. I rearranged her guest room , brought clear plastic bins , filled them and labeled them. You can actually walk in the guest room. It looks really nice now. I also did her fridge, pantry, food cupboard, catbox, laundry and got all her xmas stuff is put up in the garage. :santa:I got her to stand in her closet and get rid of somethings before she put her new stuff in. She did really well. I think we got rid of about 2 black bags of clothes.:yay: She was really happy. Packaged some things up to return to sender and cleaned off the table and mail. Whew! This was about 18 hours of pure destashing over 2 days. I feel good , she feels good!! Win -Win Situation. One more weekend up there to really do her bedroom and other closets and a thorough cleaning and dusting and it will be good and new. She just cannot get to things like she used to. Still loves to read and watch TV:happytv:, is very social and busy with ladies groups, ect... Am happy for that. Want her to enjoy her final years as independent as possible for as long as she can. :flower3:

Everyone's making some great progress!

Today, my mother helped out, and we got a lot done. All the junky matchbox cars my son had, broken toys, etc, went into the garbage while he was distracted, and all the little toys got organized into a big under the bed rubbermaid. It'll be easy for him to take it out, play with and put away.

One of the bookcases is assembled, and I got his puzzles, coloring books, and board games organized on that. I purchased two more today, one more for our living room and one for his room. In his room, we'll get all his books on to it and some more toys, in our living room, I"d love to get rid of our monstrosity of an entertainment unit. I'm hoping to get our DVDs on the bookcase, get rid of those we don't watch (donate to the library, perhaps), and talk my DH (I don't think it'll take much persuasion) into getting a flat screen.

The kicker is that he has every video gaming system every made by Nintendo in our big monster unit here, and all his old games.

Now ask me if he ever plays them. ;)

Since I think that will be an uphill battle, I'm hoping I can at least convince him to put them in a rubbermaid and put them in our storage unit, out of sight. :thumbsup2

Hoping to get more done tomorrow!

My desk area was making me crazy so I started putting papers in boxes to sort through later.

It actually looks much more manageable when the desk is cleared off!

My fridge is officially destashed of old and unused items. It's so empty! :lmao:

I like the way your phrased that "destashing my body" I am working on that since New Years, too, and am also down 5 lbs :cool1:.

We had a warm front go through with some beautiful spring-like weather so I worked on my garage today. I listed a bunch of stuff on CL for free. I have to wonder, if they aren't worth anything to sell why on earth did I keep them for so long :confused3. I hope the lady that's supposed to pick them up shows up soon.

The main problem I have in there right now are all of the bikes and scooters. Does anyone have a good budget storage solution for those where the kids can still get them out? The bikes especially are a pain because some of them don't have kickstands (the little ones) so they lay down and the ones with kickstands fall all the time. I don't want to fold up the scooters because it's too hard for the kids (and sometimes me) to unfold them.

to Mrs. bornkuntry

Look on Fly Lady.com . They have a good, easy read book called Body Clutter. It is exactly that -destashing your body. Great read.

No ideas for storage of bikes and scooters. My kids are now gone.

I've been lurking, and have done some destashing (not as much as I'd like, but it's a start!). Brought a large bag full of books/dvds to Half Price books today and got $14. Not a huge sum, but better than nothing or the couple of dollars I'd get from a garage sale! :thumbsup2 I'm also working on dd's playroom right now since we have some furniture we want to move in there, and was able to fill a trash bag with toys she no longer plays with. I'm saving her old toys/clothes for a consignment sale in April, so for now it's taking up space in MY closet lol!

Sold about another 100 comic books yesterday (still have about 2500 to go) and awaiting more paynments totaling another almost 200 dollars!!!:goodvibes:cool1:

All of this money goes towards our 2011 WDW trip as I have the 2010 trip already paid for from stuff I sold last year and the summer job I took last summer.
