Who is cancelling Disney

I believe it isn't the actual gas one might be using to get to Disney that would make or break the trip..but what kind of effect the increase in gas is having on a daily basis.....before you ever get to take the trip. Saving an extra $140.00 might not break the bank. It's the cost of the groceries...increased because of the price of gas. It's the increase in what it's costing us weekly to commute to our jobs..that's going to make saving that extra $140.00 tough to do. Not all have the option of mass transit...where perhaps you're not feeling the pinch. Gas is $4.20 a gallon where I am today..and it's increased 10 cents in a week. The cost of commuting on a daily basis to work has to be figured into the weekly budget now. So..it's just not that it might cost a family a few extra dollars for the Disney trip..it's the cost of gas on a daily..weekly basis, that's cutting into the family budget. Makes a lot of folks nervous.
::yes:: EXACTLY. Nicely put.

Yep! I cancelled the cruise so that I did not have to fly to Florida. I am taking another cruise line now so that I can drive to it, which is a 4-hour drive.

I'm hopeing my rebate check arrives before our drive to Disney. We live in New York ( about 1100 miles away ) we fill up at least 4 times before we check in. Its a 35 gallon tank and a conversion van to boot. We have cut down on alot of unecessary driving and spending so our vacation will not be effected at all.

I booked my flights for Dec. last month..I had to charge them b/c I didn't have the money saved up yet but was afraid they would go up if I waited. I was able to get less then $200 roundtrip so I'm happy. I looked at the Aug. flights I booked around Xmas and they have tripled in price!!!

As for gas..we traded in the mini-van for a cobalt and are saving about $200/month. I miss the van but what else could I do?? My husband drives for his job...almost $100/week in gas!!! :scared1:

We're not going to cancel, but boy do I have more guilt than usual :) I keep thinking we should at least scale back our vacation plans and budget. It's not just gas prices that have gone up for us, but groceries, private school tuition, property taxes while our savings interest rates are going down. I just keep thinking about all the other things we could use that vacation money for. :worried:

I have the same mixed emotions about this year's trip :worried: We usually vacation to WDW two to three times per year, one 10 - 12 night trip, and two five night trips. This year we cut back to one long vacation of 14 nights and yes for our family the gas prices have impacted our budget. DH drives to and from to work and it cost about $32.00 per day just on gas to get to work, there are no other transportation options. Like someone else stated, taxes going up, tuition going up etc.......... :worried:

Well said :thumbsup2

Not sure what you mean by "ironic"...are your saying that as oilmen they should have a way of keeping the price down?

Is it thought that as soon as the oilmen are out of office the price will go down just as steeply? Personally I am not counting on that one.

I don't think it's the relationship of our current administration and some of the large oil companies, but our international relationships do have a lot to do with our current economic situation and dollar. So with a new administration, maybe something will change.

I was watching one of the morning shows this morning, and not paying very much attention, but heard some travel expert give the following advice.

Fly 1 way from NYC to Florida, and then pick up a 1 way car rental for $29. The so called expert said that car rental agencies were trying to get rental cars out of Florida and were renting cars on the cheap.

I have absolutely no idea if this is sound advice or not. I thought it was an interesting idea though. I'm sorry that I was only half paying attention.

No kidding -- the oil men I know are hurting just as badly as everyone else.

Actually, I'm more inclined to stay longer at Disney rather than cancel since I'm already paying the airfare. I'm saving gas since my car is sitting in the garage while I"m gone. :rotfl:
