I took almost no pictures during this meal, so all the pictures in this update are from various internet sources. Thanks various internet guys! (The ones of Maddie are mine.)

After our great meeting with the Russell and Dug, we made our way toward Asia for lunch. Our ADR was for 11:40, but none of us was very hungry yet. Id made an early lunch reservation not knowing how good breakfast would be but knowing that we wouldnt want to be at Animal Kingdom much past lunch time.

As we approached the check-in desk, it appeared that we were the only guests at Yak and Yeti. I got a little nervous because if no one is eating at a restaurant, it usually means that the place is no good. And, this is Animal Kingdom for goodness sake, there arent that many table service options. However, I was relieved that adding MiL to the ressie wouldnt be a problem.

As the friendly CM led us to our table she explained that all of the decorative objects around the restaurant are authentic and were sourced straight from Asia. She encouraged us to get up and walk around a bit after we ordered to take it all in. I thought that was a nice touch because Im often embarrassed to be wandering around taking pictures of everything. Of course as it turned out I took no pictures, but I appreciated the gesture.

I began to see some signs of life as the CM led us upstairs. Apparently they seat the upstairs dining room first, then the lower level. Several other groups were already dining. Our table overlooked the pathway in front of the restaurant so the view was lovely.

Our server approached and asked us right away if we were using the Dining Plan. After we said that we were using DxDP, she asked for our KTTW cards right away. The server explained the DxDP options to us. At Yak and Yeti children choose an appetizer from the adult menu. She pointed ourt our entrée options (pretty much anything), and took our drink orders (sodas all around). Drinks were served very quickly and when our orders were taken, the CM addressed each of us by name. We were all dully impressed at the extra touch that she provided with that.

Seared Ahi Tuna - chilled, sesame-encrusted ahi tuna, wasabi aioli, and sweet chili slaw $10.99

I chose the Egg Rolls
Pork Egg Rolls - chili plum dipping sauce $7.99

Bryan wanted to try the Pot Stickers-we chose pan seared
Pork Pot Stickers - pan seared or steamed, soy lime dipping sauce $8.49

And for Maddies appetizer, I picked the Fried Green Beans. MiL and Bryan werent sure about them, but agreed to give it a try.
Wok-Fried Green Beans - battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce $7.99

Everything was delicious but the Fried Green Beans and the Tuna were the clear favorites. I didnt try the tuna as I dont usually care for it, but Bryan and MiL both said that it was delicious. They loved the wasabi aioli with it, and MiL raved about the slaw. The Pot Stickers were better than the average Chinese takeout, and the Egg Rolls were too (but not much. They weren't remarkable, but they were good egg rolls). The green beans were fabulous. They were still al dente and the batter was super crispy. The dipping sauce was really good, but I liked them better by themselves.
We had almost finished the appetizers and were already getting full when the entrees arrived.
I had the Honey Chicken with fried rice (not sure why the menu says brown or jasmine, the server offered white or fried)
Crispy Honey Chicken - tempura chicken, broccoli, carrots, honey sauce $17.99

MiL ordered the Ribs
Baby Back Ribs - slow-roasted ribs, hoisin BBQ sauce, chicken fried rice, sweet chili slaw $25.99

Bryan had the Kobe burger. I saw it on All Ears when I made the reservation and knew he wouldnt be able to resist it. He asked for his to be served plain-he doesnt like anything on his burgers, and the server happily made the changes.
Kobe Beef Burger - 10 oz grilled American Kobe beef burger, sesame-soy sauce, mayonnaise, crispy shoestring fries. topped with choice of shiitake mushroom & scallion compote or Asian slaw $17.99
Maddie had the cheese hamburger and asked for fried with it.
Again, the food was all very good. Bryan liked his burger a lot. He said that it was definitely better than the average Disney burger, but not the best burger he'd ever had. (I'm considering reporting false information about Bryan to see if he'll come out of hiding to contradict me. What do you guys think?) MiL said the Ribs were great. She enjoyed the sauce a lot, and again raved about the slaw. She also mentioned that the white sesame seeds were a nice addition. Maddie seemed to enjoy her meal though she mostly ate French fries.

We were all stuffed, but ordered dessert anyway. Bryan doesnt like chocolate or many fruits, so we knew that for most of our meals wed order dessert for Maddie from the adult menu and Bryan would get vanilla ice cream from the kids menu.
I knew from the moment I saw them on the Dis Id be getting the wontons.
Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle $7.99

MiL also wanted the wontons, but we planned to share all of the desserts so she went with the cheesecake. New York Cheesecake in Asia?
New York Cheesecake - New York cheesecake, mango and strawberry coulis, and fresh whipped cream $6.99
Maddie got the sorbet trio.
Sorbet - Mango, lemon, raspberry $6.99

She didn't love the Mango

The clear winner here was the wontons. I would like to take a bath in the sauce, it was so amazing. Anything deep fried and filled with cream cheese is usually tops in my book, but these exceeded expectation. The pineapple was a perfect compliment to the creamy filling and and the sweet sauce. All around the dessert was perfect. I would eat it EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
MiLs cheesecake was very good, but didnt get much love after we started in on the wontons. It was pretty standard cheesecake, and none of us really gave much love to the coulis.
Maddies sorbets were great. Her favorite ice cream is lemon sorbet so she was bound to enjoy that one, but I was pleased to see that she tried the raspberry and mango as well. I dutifully tried all three, and I enjoyed them all though I wouldn't order a bowl of the mango.
The only rough patch of the meal came when it was time to pay. MiL again asked us to tip on our KTTW card for her and gave us $5 (10% of her portion). The service had been excellent, so we ended up adding $5 more for her on top of the generous tip wed planned to leave. By then we sort of expected it to happen.
Lunch at Yak and Yeti was an excellent experience over all. The restaurant is filled with interesting things to look at, the service was outstanding, and the food was very, very good. Id love to dine at Yak and Yeti on our next visit to Animal Kingdom, Ill just make the ADR for a few hours later so that Im not still stuffed from breakfast at Tusker House.
