Who here talks to the characters?

Mary Poppins in the UK asked if we were having a jolly holiday. She is really pretty and speaks with a great accent. Well, I had been practicing for days, so I said "it has been practically perfect in every way," with a very straight face. She put her arm around me and said "I am so glad to hear it." DH's face just turned red. He does not really like when I talk to them.

I plan to tell Cinderella (yes, I have never met her) on my next trip that we have so much in common - a Prince Charming and a Wicked Stepmother (oops, hope mine does not read these boards. :rotfl: )

Mulan asked DH if he brought honor to his family. He said he did, and she asked "So you do as your master says?" and motioned to me. I REALLY liked that.

At the Crystal Palace, my brother (a former CM who thinks he's funny, and ok, he is) asked Piglet if he wanted some bacon.

My mom always tells Cruella to leave those puppies alone.

I was walking by Prince John and yelled out "Long live Robin Hood!" and he left the line and followed me to suck his thumb!

I didn't ask Goofy to do this, but this is a neat character interaction. I was wearing a shirt with all these words that describe Goofy, and when I walked up, he started acting them out! It took me a minute to get what he was doing, and finally he grabbed the arm of my t-shirt and pointed to let me know. It was so funny! I'm putting the picture taken right after on...it's such a great memory. Just don't judge me - it was 1996, and I look a bit nerdy :)

I met Cruella once and though she give me an autograph, she said her hair was too messy (it was windy that day) and didn't want to pose for a photo. I told her she looked beautiful and after that she happily posed.

When I met Snow White and her Prince, I told them about how I had played the Prince in a high school production of Snow White. We had a conversation about that and he was happy to hear that I was refered to in the play as "The Prince" and not "Prince Charming" (Prince Charming is Cinderella's Prince, you know).

When I told the Mad Hatter that I was leaving WDW later that day, he was confused when I told him that I had to go home. He assured me I didn't have to. After all, it was totally possible to extend my vacation and stay a few more days. I liked his logic, but I did leave that day.

I got to meet Belle and her Prince at MK when a performance of Cinderellabration got cancelled, so I asked him what his name was. I said that he didn't have one and that he was called "The Prince".

The first time I met Pocahontas, I told her how much I liked her movie and she then taught me how to say Wingapo (hello in her language) just like she taught John Smith.

Mary Poppins once asked me if I could shake her hand. It seemed like an odd request since I while waiting in line I didn't see her ask anyone else to shake hands. Then she told me that it was good luck and I remembered that there was a line in the song "Chim-Chim-Cheree" about good luck rubs off when you shake a chimneysweep's hand. Guess she thought I was a sweep.

Character interaction is my favorite thing to do at the parks! I just love it! :thumbsup2 I have a few of my own.

*I was waiting for Mickey in front of the castle (this was when Cinderella's Surprise Celebration was still showing). When he came out, he gave me a big hug and then (I don't remember what preceded it) he got down on his knee and "proposed" to me, kissing my hand and all! I even got a picture of it.

*I was able to get a picture of Prince Charming and the King when a show of Cinderellabration was canceled. The King kept calling me "Princess" and when my camera didn't work the first time, I said that I hated technology, and he agreed with me!

*When I saw Snow White in front of the castle, I asked where her prince was (she was by herself) and she said he was off hunting.

*This was also from CSC. I was waiting for Pluto, who was off to the side of the castle. Well, when he came down, he took my arm and we skipped off to his spot for the picture. But when it was time to take the picture, he sat down and made me sit down with him!

As far into the character as they can....go talk to one of the face characters....example....go up to Wendy and/or Peter Pan and ask where Tink or the boys are...you'll find out they really are knowledgeable about their character......accent and all! For the "fur" characters....ask Mickey where Minnie or Pluto is...and they'll mine something! Last time I was at the park I, Wendy was there without Peter...I asked where Peter was and she went off on a 12 year old girl speech about Peter hanging out with Tink whose only so (held pointer finger and thumb close together to show that Tink was tiny)big, and Peter had to go find her, and then that they both went off to help the boys in Neverland! It's great!

I asked the same question of Wendy back in January and got the same speach. I'm guessing they have some preplanned response for questions that they expect to get and ad lib the rest. :goodvibes My kids get a real kick out of it when I start those kinds of dialogues with the characters.

i just love talking to the characters!! :goodvibes makes my trip even better.

when doodle was 5 we saw chip and dale. dale decided that he could keep doodle because he has really chubby cheeks so he must be a chipmunk too, therefore he could live with him. even promised to feed him lots of nuts.

this last trip was great... we met prince john. doodle told him that his favorite part of robin hood is where he falls off the carraige and cries for his mommy. i have a ton of pics of that.
we also had the BEST conversation with peter and wendy. cinderella's coronation was just starting when they were signing autographs. wendy was upset because they were not invited and peter was of the opinion that princess's and all girls were gross. we talked about the princesses and which ones weren't really princesses and why. loved every minute of it.

Once in EPCOT at UK Alice in Wonderland was out and we got in line to get her autograph. Just before it was our turn a group showed up across from us and tried to push in for their turn. I said something under my breath about rude people and my DS started to tell me to be quiet. Alice turned to him and told him "Don't get mad at your Mum, she's right you are next" and in true Alice character, accent and all continued to talk to us until it was time to go in. The others never did get her autograph. And she did it all without saying a word to the other people about how rude they were. True Disney professional if you ask me.

Another time after a very stressful morning at MK we were in the main hall with the 7 Dwarfs, I ran into Grumpy and told him I was Grumpy, too. He gave me 2 thumbs up which made me Laugh which immmediately lifted my spirits. He is now my favorite character with Tink coming in a close second.

My girlfriend got her picture with cinderella. Cinderella asked "what kingdom did you come from." My GF said, "virginia." The Cinderella sayed (completely in character), "Wow, that's a long way to travel, By pumpkin no doubt! LOL

I don't do very well with character interaction. In fact, for my upcoming trip I may just not visit characters at all. I mean, I've pretty much accomplished my mission in showing characters my artwork and getting them to sign them, with a few unnotable exceptions (i.e. rare characters, characters who never show out anymore). Usually they'll say, "Wow, did you draw that? You're very good."

So what notable "character moments" have I scored success with? Let's take a look:

-After Storytime Theater, Belle had asked if I had visited either Fairytale Gardens or the Magic Kingdom before. To this day, I still don't know how she knew my face.

-As Phoebus was signing an autograph, he noticed my Arielholics T-shirt and recalled that Prince Eric of VoTLM was given a similar T-shirt.

-Similar situation involing Snow White and The Prince where The Prince remarked about me having a website which was information that I Aladdin had discovered two, three years ago. (I wonder whatever happened to those guys.)

-I asked the Mad Hatter whether tea or coffee was the stronger beverage. His reply: "Coffee makes you cough." That was my second interaction with the Mad Hatter.

-The first interaction with MH was after following the White Rabbit as close as I could without passing the "Cast Members Only" barrier. I leaned against a nearby chair pondering my next move. Without missing a beat, the Hatter approached me and said, "That chair is not going to run away from you." This confused me even moreso than usual.

-Peter Pan helped me get Tinker Bell's autograph. He wasn't sure how to accomplish that feat since Tink has no 'onstage' presence. Had to go backstage after his set for that while Felix (Character Boss On Duty) stood by.

That's all I got. For my next visit, I will stick to the non-traditional characters, like the Citizens of Hollywood. (Are you listening, Francis? :teeth: )

we always talk to the characters. usually just hey mickey, thanks mickey. more to the face characters.

That reminds me of something. In November 2004, me and my nieces were meeting Pocahontas, and she asked us, "What tribe are you from?" I hesitated for a second, wondering if she meant our ancestry but I decided on the easier answer, "The New Jersey Tribe!". :) It was "Jersey WeeK" then, so I added, "I think there are alot of our Tribesmen here too!" - Pocahontas smiled at that one! :)

Ok funny story…. My cousin went to Disney World for the first time when she was 12 years old. We went to the judges tent to meet the characters (mostly for my nephew who was 5 years old at the time) . We waited in line for a while, then when it was our turn we went into the room with Minnie and Daisy. We did the autographs and pictures and then started to leave so the next group could come in. the room was almost cleared out when we heard a cast member say “Ok Minnie has to go now, she is expecting a call from Mickey”. We turned around expecting there to be a little kid who wouldn’t leave the characters or something. But oh no, there was my cousin, hugging poor Minnie so tightly and jumping up and down! Poor Minnie was just standing there patting my cousin’s back. My mother went over and told my cousin to let go and she wouldn’t. She said ”Minnie is hugging me too!” I was so embarrassed I left my poor mother there to get Missy to leave. :grouphug: After Missy finally left Minnie she told us that even though she had been in the park all day, it did not sink in with her that she was “really” at Disney World until she saw Minnie, her favorite childhood character. It has been almost four years (and many Disney trips latter) since that happened and we still tease her about it!

LOL!! She would be so embarrassed if she knew I put this on the internet for everyone to read!

Now that the embarrassment of that day is over I really wish I would have taken a picture of it…what a great picture that would have been to put in her senior yearbook :rotfl2:

My dad said the worst thing to Pluto one visit. We were at a character dinner in MK, and he hates being bugged by the characters when he's eating. So when Pluto came by our table and started teasing my dad, he said "beat it, or I'm gonna call animal control!". Geeeezzz! thanks dad  Pluto walked away all sad, I felt terrible...but it still was kinda funny

i don't know why but i get really embarrased talking to the face characters, yet i can garbble away quite happily to the furry ones!

My children are not amused when I talk to the characters, but believe me I do!! I'l tell them (Stitch for DS9, Donald for DS10) that they are their favorite characters. I'll tell them we really enjoyed a certain part of their movie, or just saw their 'friend' the other day. I'll comment on their outfits, and for Chip and Dale compare them to others we've seen. I can't imagine meeting the characters and not talking to them :confused3 .

I love talking to the characters, but like somone else mentioned I have an easier time talking to the fur characters over the face characters. When we were down last May, we had Prince John to ourselves one afternon for a bit, and I told him I loved him and asked him if he wanted to marry me, he rubbed his fingers together like, do you have money, I told him I would make us some, and she started shaking his head in a yes motion, it was great. I love reading all the cute character interaction stories, to me they are what make the Disney magic. :goodvibes

Why of course I talk to the characters! :wave2:
It just wouldn't be polite if you didn't. :lmao: (Fun intended)

When we met Donald, Chip and Dale, I had a favorite childhood book of mine and now my kids. It was about Donald and the chipmunks. I asked them to autograph the cover for us. Chip and Dale loved the fact that they were the main characters of a book and had me flip through the book for them. As I did I narrarated the story for them (the short version) since I was aware that they had just a limited amount of time to spend at our table. My kids loved seeing their favorites characters enjoy the book. :cool1:

Yeah, I'd say the characters like seeing pictures and drawings of themselves. :sunny:
