New Orleans the Site of New Disney Film

The Walt Disney Co. has started production on an animated musical fairy tale called "The Frog Princess," which will be set in New Orleans and feature the Walt Disney Studio's first black princess.

The company unveiled the plans Thursday at its annual shareholders' meeting in New Orleans.

John Lasseter, chief creative officer for Disney and the Disney-owned unit Pixar Animation Studios, said the movie would return to the classic hand-drawn animation process, instead of using computer animation that has become the industry standard. He called the film "an American fairy tale."

"The film's New Orleans setting and strong princess character give the film lots of excitement and texture," Walt Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook said.

The movie will be scored by Randy Newman, who also wrote the music for Disney's "Toy Story," "A Bug's Life" "Toy Story 2," "Monsters, Inc." and "Cars."

Newman performed a song from the score for the shareholders.

John Musker and Ron Clements, who co-directed "The Little Mermaid" "Aladdin," and "Hercules" will co-direct the movie. The pair also wrote the story for the film.

Disney said its new animated princess Maddy will be added to its collection of animated princesses used at the company's theme parks and on consumer products.

The film is set for release in 2009.




That is pretty cool. I always wondered how long it would take them to finally come out with an African American princess. It's about time too.

Good Morning everyone. Today is going to be a day of cleaning. Not my favorite but someone has to do it. Last night I watched Cinderella 3. I thought it was ok. Now I need to watch Peter Pan. It has been years since the last time I have watched it.

Michele, you guys are welcome for the gift. Don't even worry about thank-you cards. I would be embaressed if you guys knew how long it took me to get them out after my wedding.

Well I hope everyone has a great day . I need to get to work.. It would be nice if I could actually hang some clothes up outside.

That sounds interesting...I know people have been after Disney for a while to create an African American princess. I'm glad they finally listened.

Jeremiah is feeling better but I still don't feel 100%!! I didn't get sick like he did though, I just feel alittle nauseous!! I ofcourse didn't sleep well last night, I am getting so sick of it! I went to sleep at about 12:45 and woke up at 3:30 and couldn't go back to sleep until 5!! I think a nap will be in my future today

Sherri, I live about 25 miles outside Washington DC. I remember talking to April about it quite a while ago before she moved but I can't remember how far she said it was!!! If you speak to her, tell her I said hello.

I've never seen Cinderella 3 (or Cinderella 2 for that matter). I think I saw Cinderella, (not the cartoon ) is that the one with Hilary Duff?

Hi Ashley I am about an hour and a half from DC. (I think) Maybe a small convention is in order here. Of course it wouldn't be at Disney but I can live with that. Yes cinderella is the one with Hilary Duff. That is one of my favorite movies. Of course, A Cinderella Story doesn't have her special mice friends. You need to see the animated version though. Very cute.

All right Michele get to work!!! Of course I should be working too but everyone needs a break once in a while right.

Ashley and anyone else wanting to fly to Florida in April or May.....I just received an e-mail from Southwest about fare sales!!! Just thought I'd mention it.

Oh, would I love to go I was checking a few short cruises If we would book onboard it would save us about $500...so, if we paid 1k for a cruise and booked our 08' trip on board then it would only really cost $500 basically... sounds good right? I'm obsessed!!! I admit it!!

Hi everyone! Just popping in for a quick hello, Lyzzie and I have been busy scrapbooking today! Remember my beautiful new dining table? It's completely buried under paper & stuff. We've also all been playing outside until it got chilly, my mom bought the kids each a nice big ball and you'd think they'd struck gold. Lyzzie stacked them up along with an older one and called it a "summer snowman" - I wish I'd gotten pictures, it was really cute. My parents took all the ugly metal awnings off the outside of my house and it looks SO much better! I even have some tulips sprouting, but they are in the weirdest place. They're under the living room window in the backyard - there is no other landscaping in the backyard at all and they are around a corner from the patio, where nobody can see them unless they are standing right there.

I found out why the sump pump keeps running. The pump drains out of a pipe that basically is a hole in the outside wall, about 8" above the ground. What's on the ground underneath, you ask? A small, 6"-deep TRENCH that goes back down to into the basement!! I'm thinking over the years, the water probably made the trench but why would nobody redirect the water? I know they had to have seen it, because it's right next to the window with the tulips underneath!

It's all just so baffling.

My MIL is insane. We told her months ago about our trip and invited them to go. She never did give a definite answer, so I made our plans without them (but made it perfectly clear they were invited. We also made it VERY clear we would ONLY be going to WDW and not their house). Anyway, for the past few weeks she will say little things to try and guilt Mike into cutting WDW short and going to their house. Well, last night took the cake. She mentioned to Mike that now his grandfather is sad that he won't be seeing Mike. She also made the comment that we planned this trip without them and we didn't want to visit them.

Mike is so mad. While we do want to see them, there are several reasons why we won't go to their house (she has been told of these things). It is our vacation and just because they live in the same state as WDW, doesn't mean that we are obligated to visit. I mean, are we only suppose to go to FL and visit them? We want to go to Maine; are we not supposed to do that because it means we won't be visiting them?

They don't make any effort to come up here either. When they lived up here, my MIL would fly to FL several times a to visit Mike's sister. However, she has been here twice in 7 years (and for a total of three days). Mike is to the point of never telling her we are coming to FL again. It just isn't fair for her to lay a guilt trip on him every time they speak. Am I wrong for feeling this way?

I had a nice day so far!! Jeremiah is feeling better but doesn't have much of an appetite. Today we went to Barnes & Noble and got a book required for school and I had a nice snack there again Then we went to the mall and just browsed around. Look what I found in a store

That is too cool. Yes it is very expensive there...and the crime in DC is ridiculous. When I was working there I remember Mike Tyson was there and got rear ended by a guy or something and he got out and punched him! Glad I didn't run into him! Then a few years later I was working not far from there in Maryland for the Dept. of Defense...that was a much better area

Amber I think I would quit telling them you're going to FL too Give you a guilt trip for not coming b/c you're in the same state and they can't come see you. NO way! That is how my mom would be too... she has never been to any b-day parties of Kennys or her other 3 grandkids whatever, she is the one missing out. She only sees him if we go over there.
