I have been in the healthcare industry for almost 20 years, and by far what I am doing now is THE BEST!
I work at a company (American Companion and Homemaker Services) that provides assistance to the elderly, the homebound, post-op patients, or those with special requirements who can use our services. My responsibilities have me call on social workers, discharge planners, all types of medical facilities, medical care groups and their staffs, so our staff can step in take good care of their fine folks.
Our caregivers actually go into people's homes and cook for them, tidy up around their sitting (or laying) areas, provide companionship, take them to doctors's appointments, keeping the patient clean and fed, and anything else that we can make their lives more pleasant. It basically is the non-skilled side of home health care.
It is such an incredible feeling when I meet with the families and/or the patients to see how we can bring or keep them home for a happier quality of life. I feel like I am truly providing a solution to them all. I actually feel bad calling it a job . . . I just call it a "calling".
