I am considering WebTV for my home-

who has it?
is it cable/sattelite or dial up?

Please Help?! My kids keep finding new ways to crash my computer every time we get the internet-

We had webtv years ago. It works like dialup. You plug in to your phone jack and dial to connect. Fairly simple to use and the kids won't be able to crash it. :teeth:

~Thank you~

Is this the type of unit that can be purchased at an electronics store?

Monthly Fee? Reasonable cost?

:chat:

My Mother has this and has had it for years. If she can use it anyone can :p . You can't view video content or hear a lot of audio content that you are use to, but it is a good inexpensive way to get to the web without a PC.

I had it for a couple years. I honestly can say that I never had any problems with. I was always able to hear audio portions of websites (I'll never forget the time Dan Murphy put a clip of "please stand clear of the doors................" on one of his threads. I never knew you could do things like that and almost jumped into my tv set!! :hyper: ) but large photo threads or video was out of my range.

The last time I used webtv, it was $24.95 a month...........I think I paid something like $100 for the unit. I think Microsoft bought out webtv the last time I saw it.

Check ebay for inexpensive, albeit used, receiver/keyboard packages that go for around $25.

Alwaysquiet: Thanks, it was the MSN I spotted last year.
The link was perfect.

My next job was to see if I can find it for less than the $100 sticker price.

I do know Ray Sharpton uses it, (or at least did last I knew). You might send him a pm, not sure though if he stops by all that much anymore.

Just got my dad into webtv this past summer. He paid $100, but there was a $50 rebate so actual cost was $50. He pays around $22 a month. Once thing we didn't find out at first was that his phone service through Verizon was for low usage, and his first phone bill after he hooked up was astronomical! Changed that fast! He likes it, has learned how to use it (he's 83), and loves to e-mail.
